Bred to lead. That was what her father was always telling her; she was destined for some sort of greatness. Trained up and then sent off to perform miracles, or some such. She could believe it, let it rub off a lil' on her ego, at least enough to get her in the spirit of a hero. She wasn't the type to sit there and ask, 'Really? Me of all people?' as if uncertain. Because no, she knew from the get-go that at some point it would be time to take up the responsibility of leadership to guide her generation of men and women. She had to stand, and walk forward with the assumption that there would be others at her back following her into whatever hell awaited. That was what she was raised to believe, and she couldn't much afford to let hesitance and doubt to creep into her mind whilst she idled.

The problem was that she still felt like she didn't have the proper amount of training. The childhood she withstood with the Miyake family was more of an introductory course than any conclusive study. It was experience that Kimiyo hungered for, which she necessitated in order to consider herself well-trained. Twenty-one years... she didn't exactly get off on calling herself a master at such a young age. Prodigial of course, but a little whipped when comparing herself to the legends of this century. That was the type of person you wanted in charge of a world-wide organization. What was an untested woman doing anywhere near that sort of position?

"Except the way I see it? I don't have a choice."

Vanguard was but a shell of its former self, as anyone with the proper insight could tell. Kimiyo could certainly discern this much even after the bloody nightmare she went through over the past several months. Turns out that's all the time it took for a once great power to be stripped of its vitality and turned into a husk only resembling its former form. Its independent motivation was gone, with its rightful leader missing in action, its stand-in abandoning his post for other interests, and no other replacement in sight. The goal was not even so difficult. They had a jurisdiction over this world and needed to intervene where Earth's livelihood was in peril. They were protectors of the planet, and they needn't ulterior motives in order to act as such a unit; they just needed a leader who came to push when they needed to shove. So to hell with the experience... she'd get plenty fine by taking up the role Vanguard needed her to. She wouldn't stand by waiting for a miracle to occur.

"Huhwhaaaaaaaaaa~...? Did you say something...?" A tired drawl from the woman tailing her through the steel hallways, echoing up and down the lifeless walkways. You'd think the place was abandoned... but no, there just weren't many left. When Hayden moved his interests, so too did many of his closest men. Naomi at least—the eldest sister of the Miyake trio—remained within the Vanguard with Kimiyo. Apparently, she said something aloud intended to simply be thought. No need to discuss it with her, as pretty soon there'd be enough discourse about it en masse. She simply shook her head and kept walking on, heading towards the main auditoriums of the hidden base. It was one of the more prominent areas for announcements, and where Kimiyo would finally step up to take control of this place. This wasn't a hostile situation... there were those among her inner circle who called for it, even... yet there was certainly nothing official about it.

She certainly didn't contact Hayden to discuss it.

Didn't feel like she should anymore.

As far as she cared, this was going to be a democratic resolution. She was going to pose the topic of a change of hands, put her name into the hat, and call out for any objections to the matter. Vanguard needed a new leader and Kimiyo was going to challenge every single soldier within the organization for that spot, with Earth's interest at hand. Easy, simple; but she couldn't help but get riled up for the meeting to come. She was only halfway there when the announcement came over the base's loudspeaker: Kimiyo had one of her men head over to the comms room in order to call the aggregation in her stead. Make it clear that this was of dire importance to each of their futures.

''Attention to all Vanguard personnel. You are to immediately report to the main auditorium on Level One, Wing B. There will be no requisite dress code but you must present your identification at the entrance. Again, report to the main auditorium on Level One, Wing B at once. That is all.''

There, the Miyake would be waiting. Untested yet eager to be tested. Bearing necessary strength and willpower, yet lacking age or experience. It was a risk, but maybe the Vanguard would finally find much needed stability in the hands of the Spirit of Battle.

What the fuck was stability?

That was a question which Radioactive gave to all men who were still left in the depths of The Vanguard. The world was in a constant state of strife, conflict, and control for power for as far as humanity and the supernatural gods could recall. So, as far as he was concerned, this was nothing more than the status quo when the likes of Hayden started to seek greener pastures in his hunger to expand The Vastime Empire. The Nuclear Giant held no grudge against him for that craving, as he had his own little nest back in Russia which brought him similar feelings.

Instead, Radioactive was here as he had no interest in following the lead of whatever was to come next unless he was absolutely certain they had enough balls to actually follow-through on a creed, a will, and vision. So, on that coarse sentiment of thought, our lanking giant entered the main auditorium in an eruption of hot release; not caring much that his judgemental spiritual pressure was pressing down on this ridiculous excuse for a meeting. Whether or not men and women alike in the room grew uncomfort was not of the one-eyed beast concern. No. His lone gold eye focused in on the dark-haired woman trying to bumrush her way into leadership.

"Look, I get it: things are fucked. The world is fucked up, our leader is gone and now someone new is trying to pick up the pieces."

A hard groan exited the mouth of the dirty blonde as his coarse language ripped through the room like an uncomfortable stench of venom poisoning the essence of person ever so slowly. This was something that felt like a pain in the ass to him, but he wasn't inclined to back down from whatever he thought or felt if the circumstances aligned. And right now? This woman had no business being here.

"But when has that never been the case for this shithole of a planet? The way I see it: we need someone who is prepared to see the ugly shit that this world has to offer. And judging from your get-up, I highly doubt you are qualified for that job. So do me a favor and just quit this dog and pony show before you give me a headache."

The male started to reach into the pockets of his oversized trousers before tossing Kimiyo a cold class of top-shelf Vodka.

"For your troubles."

Without delay, the male then slid his right hand into his back pocket, yanked out another bottle and chugged half a bottle for himself before letting out a grim exhale of breath:

"Now, if you want to tell me on what platform you can actually run this place, I'm all ears now that I have something to help me stomach this shit...."

For the most part, rank and file; fellow soldiers lining into the auditorium with the military habits Hayden left behind. Kimiyo's crimson hues stared brazenly on each man and woman who walked through those double doors. Echoes of boots falling in on the marble floor filled the room, just barely overshadowing the uncertain murmurs of the crowd. They did not know why they were being called, but punctual regardless.

That didn't entail each member, though. For such good form did wear without practice. With their leader gone and their effective responsibilities having dwindled, there was an unspoken aimlessness settling over the organization. The Miyake was not blind to this. And this sort of revelation is what spurred the woman to act in the first place. Left alone, these issues would fester and worsen. A leader was necessary, whether it be an individual or a collective, to give the Vanguard aim and purpose. Management 101.

Minutes passed, and Kimiyo impatiently waited from behind a podium, hands gripping onto the sides of the stand. Naomi waited in the shadows behind the stage's curtains, watching... or rather snoozing through the procession. Once at least half of the seats were filled, Kimiyo decided she didn't want to wait any longer and flicked a switch on the microphone; it would crackle to life over the speakers, drawing the attention of the room.

"Vanguard," she breathed out, referring to all present as a collective group. There was a short pause while she allowed the clamor to quiet down, before diving into to the crux of this meeting. "My name is Kimiyo Miyake-Shuryou, if you don't already know me. A member from the Initiative back during Azure Iramasha's leadership. I'm the one who called everyone here, and I'm sure you'll be able to guess why I did. We need..."

That's when the interruption began, not a whole minute into her speech when a coarse voice managed to elicit such a volume that it overcame the amplified sound coming from the speakers. Emitting a force of will potent enough to turn the contents of her stomach, and likely all those present, a massive figure waltzed into the auditorium, fashionably late. His was an infamous reputation; one that would be foolish to be ignorant of. Radioactive.

This was not how Kimiyo wanted things to go. She had not yet even announced her plans going forward and yet there was already dissension—a powerful figure appearing to try and swat her down before she rose. She did not immediately bite back, as her urges might dictate. She certainly wanted to get angry and roar right back at him, but she merely gripped the podium more tightly as she listened to him word for word. She waited for him to finish, and in doing so did not make a fool of herself. When she was certain that the initial rebuttal was over, she began anew.

"We need a leader for the Vanguard now, in the absence of our former commander, Desmond Hayden."

This she asserted, refusing to back down from the first shots fired. She glared at the lumbering titan for a moment before sweeping her gaze back around the room, judging the responses from the faces in the crowd. Already, this discussion was on thin ice. But that was simply because it was a complex issue. That alone couldn't be why they turned away and ignored it. It was their job to do it so others wouldn't have to, and that's why even the words of a former legend fell short of Kimiyo.

"Unfortunately, I can't let lie the state the world is in, as much it would be easy to call it a shithole and turn away from it. Hayden had the right idea, but he's gone now, and someone needs to catch the ball he dropped..." she refocused on Radioactive, a fire lit in her eyes. Not even once did she acknowledge the drink slid her way. "I was just about to volunteer for that spot, with an ultimatum attached."

"If you got a problem with my resume, then I have no problem stepping down. Trust me I will. There's just one stipulation if you're going to shoot me down: Take my place. Lead Vanguard yourself. You're welcome to your disagreements but they alone aren't going to make me or this problem go away. The only reason I stepped forward so boldly is because no one else had the initiative to do it themselves. The whole of Vanguard, and I was the first to step up."

And then she finally breathed in, and took a step back from the podium, not realizing how tense she had been. She displayed fortitude in the face of a great, but just facing down someone like Radioactive was tough no matter what you were made of. And not only him—the whole of Vanguard and their combined spiritual pressure, filling this room. To address exactly how she would run Vanguard if she was in charge... she didn't touch on that yet, and purposefully. It wasn't the time to have that discussion just now. There was a whole other issue they had to overcome first. And it was what preconceived notions others had of the Miyake here. She'd make a bet that if someone like Radioactive were to try for leadership, there'd be no such thing as friction for him.

So she had to do her best to prove herself with words and impressions. To persuade as many people here that she was fit for this duty before she even stepped into Hayden's shoes. Or, if someone else was brave enough to put themselves out there like Kimiyo was doing... then she'd support them. But deadlock and excessive deliberation needed to be avoided. This wasn't a joke, or some small time team. Vanguard represented the wellbeing of Earth, and their strength represented lives saved. People here needed to understand that first, and foremost.

"Oh, and if you think I don't know how to handle myself... try me."

He's not gone yet

Artist: N/A - Song: N/A - Word Count: N/A

"Dropped the ball? Man that's kinda harsh."

A voice echo'd immediately leading to a silence among the members, the calming presence of a familiar aura swept into the room. The voice of a man who had dedicated nearly three years of stalwart service to the organization, even with past deeds being so easy to be forgotten. Some would even claim the sin of resting on one's laurels, to the voice which seemed to fill the room. But none of that mattered now, the only thing that mattered to the baritone and stressed voice owner was dealing with the immedaite action at hand.

Hayden himself was standing at the doorway, the suit and tie he now usually wore now a trademark of his appearance. The gladitoral frame Kimiyo had once seen in armor now hidden behind a wall of practiced movements and basic business clothes. But what had not left the man was the utter passion in his eyes, in his movements. At his side the only tool he truly needed, his Zanpakuto.

The Iron King, the Regent General Incumbrent, would begin a march to the stands crossing rows of soldiers. That's right. Soldiers. Vanguardian warriors taught to become the defenders of the world again by the training plans he implemented. While the organ had taken a militaristic approach that it's self wasn't a bad thing, no longer where operates a rag team group of defenders but a cohesive unit. They had all the training and equipment he could give them, funded by his Vastimian investment.

His time as leader wasn't spent sending his soldiers into wars they wheren't ready for, it was spent tailoring them into a force for the next leader to wield firmly and effectively. He got them back on their feet, and improved the model of which they where. And sure, they made some people upset- some thought they should have avenged the moon and Iceland. But lack of prepartion would lead to the needless death of Vanguardians and with that... another defeat.

"Maybe people didn't pay attention to my actual annoucement; but I said I was in the process of resigning. That I will allow the Wardens and divisional heads make most of the major choices, with my input. "
The male explained as he approached the stands, his eyes locking with his old friend and supporter Radioactive.

The man he had fought with beside him and as an subdorinate. Now he was the superior to him, the man tasked to effectively use his world changing power. He liked to think that in some ways, Radioactive supported his choices in the past- and he hoped now would be no different.

"Ya know, I can see why you want to step up. You're serious about this. You're ready to step up if needed. But did you really think this was the right way to do this? Did it really skip over your head to come talk to me? A message maybe?" He called to Kimiyo, the former agent he himself had met. The one he had butted heads with a few times.

"That's fine. Noted. I see you want it. I'm currently reviewing potential applicants. You thought I just stepped up and walked out and left that choice to everyone when I have the chance to pick my successor? Ultimately, the Wardens have to rally around and approve who I pick but I like to think this organization has enough trust in me to pick a suitable one- and with that being said...."

The man shifted, this time nothing but deadly seriousness lacing his voice. It's baritone nature unyielding and firm.

"...I refuse to simply step aside and let some joe take this position without at least seeing if they have it in them. Picking the next leader shouldn't be you standing on this podium presenting an Ultimatum in front of this organization, I've gone through great lengths to maintain the chain of command. So let me say this once and for all: I'm not gone yet, if you think you are have the chops to become the leader talk to me. I don't appreciate being regarded as gone just yet."

Try Me [Open to Vanguard; Important] 6EdIfMt

Artist: Kevin MacLeod - Song: Take The Lead - Word Count: N/A

Conflict: check.

Our shark lord was interested in seeing if the potential-leader to be could handle the opposition and blowback from dealing with those who don't agree with her opinion. And, as far as he was concerned, he was amused that she didn't blow her head gasket at some of the words he threw at her. So, kudos to her for keeping herself in order. That earned her respect from his eyes.

"You aren't wrong. We need a leader: but who exactly are you to lead us?"

Once those stiff words uttered out the scarred man's mouth, his lone eye shifted to the drink he slid her way and a chuckle could only escape his lips at the sight of her brushing it off. It was a shame to waste a good bottle, eh? But there were bigger issues at hand and he'd keep his eye on the prize as he matched her blazed gaze with his traditional shark-tooth grin.

"Oh, I said nothing about running away. I'm interested to know if you are willing to dive headfirst into conflict, get your hands dirty and face the shit head first, Kimiyo. So that's something we both agree on with whoever leads our lovely little home."

And it's true: that wasn't just snarky wordplay, Radioactive honestly felt the Vanguard was doing a piss-poor job at taking more aggressive stances in the world. The whole faction stank from the stench of stagnation to him. Sure, there were some advances in the weaponry and defenses, but he can't recall how they've been used to advance their foothold in the world. Which is why he himself was slowly starting to think of becoming a source of morale for his soldiers. Of course, he ain't cut out to be a leader, but he'd be damned if he wasn't a sense of encouragement for those who lived by the creed of combat. It's why his reputation was one which could sway many a people within the Vanguard, after all.

"I don't agree with shitty ultimatum's, but you've given me some thought into putting my fucking money where my mouth is and trying to lead more. I ain't too hot on being a world leader, but inspiration and striving to claw our way to become stronger? That I can do.

Then, after bridging distance, Radiaoctive placed a firm hand on her shoulder before looking Kimiyo in the eyes and saying these words:

"Leader or no leader, I'm willing to crush whatever if there is a plan in place to wreck some shit. So the two of us can do it, I can do it or you can do it alone; but I just want to make sure you can handle the heat. That's the only reason I came in here like a boar, miss."

Shifting from vulgar and aggressive, to in control and stern; Radioactive held nothing against the woman for trying to do something positive. All he was concerned with was having someone at the helm who could actually endure the storms to come as being a leader is no easy feat. If she wasn't 100% there, there was no doubt in his mind that he'd be eaten away and thrown into obscurity like many that came before her. So, in his own fucked up way, the nuclear giant was looking at for her own good.

"Though if you want to have a good spar after this, I'm game~"

A good-natured laugh uttered out of the dirty-haired male before he set his eye shifted back to the entrance of Hayden. Making sure to grab the bottle of vodka that Kimiyo refused to drink, the sRussianrussian took a hard swig of the bottle as he watched The Vanguard leader begin to make his introduction to otherwise defend his position. And to be honest? He wasn't sure what in bloody hell the male planned on doing, but it seemed there was a heavy lack of miscommunication on both sides and that was something even this brute could pick up on.

So, as Radioactive listened in, it seemed as if The Vanguard was still in management by him, the wardens and those who led divisions like himself. Which gave the shinigami a raise of the eyebrow as he looked down at Hayden before finishing his bottle and setting it down on the table. When done, he simply said this:

"It seems the two of you are out of sync with communication. I'm not Mr.Dipolomatic, far from it, but I can see both of you using this as a chance to catch up on what the fuck the other is doing."

And with that, Radioactive found a chair nearby, plopped his ass down in it and watched the two go at it as he continued to take chug after chug from his clear vodka glass. There really wasn't much input for him after that since he was in favor of The Vanguard as a whole from his promise from Azure. Sure, he respected Hayden enough to lead, but even if he wasn't here, the titantic figure was going to make sure this place kept running since he was tired of not having a family. Which meant that neither Kimiyo's antics or Hayden's decisions were going to force him to resign from this stance.

"Just let it be known that you two are both my brother and sister. Even if we beat the shit out of each other verbally and physically, we are suppose to be a family. Don't let idiotic miscommunications and the strain of the world dilude that."

And with those words addressed to both the fiery red-head and The Iron King, Radioactive sat back, moderated and awaited to see if there was anymore need for an input from him as he felt it was up to Kimiyo to otherwise defend where she stood at this point and hash things out with their leader.
