» Item Description:
History: Believed to be a fairy tale told to children to inspire hope and to kindle the imagination, Ashbringer is not so much a myth as it was once believed to be. The legend of the blade can be trace back to a pre-human civilization known as the Primordials, beings of high intellect and even deeper connection to the Earth and its natural forces. These timeless beings walked the earth, shaping all of its' natural splendor such as majestic mountains, vast oceans, and the clouds in the skies. Even the core of the planet was molded to their liking. The end goal for these beings was not war or conflict, but that of peace. They believed in the grand scheme of things, building vast, and wonderful things to increase the beauty and natural splendor of the Earth itself. This way of life lasted for millions of years before the very first man arrived on the Earth.
At first, the Primordials viewed mankind as a race of evolved apes, but over time they grew to respect the ingenuity and intellect of the young species as it made its mark on their world. As man developed, becoming more, and more like the men of today, the Primordials acted as sheperds, herding humanity toward a bright future that they saw in the horizon for them. They believed that eventually, humanity would be their equal, and help them in tending to the balance of the world that had been crafted by the forces of nature at the Primordials' disposal. This future, however would never be. The first demons, sensing the potential in man as well, began to twist, and corrupt mankind. Creating anger, jealousy, and lust to drive humanity toward a different path. A path of war.
Where once the Primordials had viewed a bright future for man, they began to see the seedy underbelly that came from the demon's machinations. Humans began to lust for battle, for power, and control. This lead to a rapid expansion of their territory, the humans clashing with one another, destroying the natural glory of the Earth in the process. They began to exploit the resources of the planet, cutting vast majorities of forests to the ground for wood, and churning the dirt beneath their feet for metals to construct weapons. The Primordials watched in shock and wondered if they should intervene in the new path that humanity had decided to tread. For a while they remained neutral to this until finally, they decided to intervene, and stop the damage that the people of Earth were spreading on their own. They did this by causing natural disasters and by appearing to the citizens of the planet, the humans viewed them as beings of great powers and labeled them "gods". The Primordials, instead of dismissing this claim, used it to silence the humans and stop their wars, and needless bloodshed.
Still the question remained as to what had sparked this sudden change and the Primordials didn't have to wait long for the answer, as demons began to attack the young humanity, and their would be gods. The Primordials, who had never gone to war, viewed the demons as a parasite, a plague that sucked the strength from whatever it touched, and knew that they needed to be dealt with. So they turned to their greatest creator, Vulcan, an unassuming Primordial who spent his years in isolation, crafting the world's greatest natural wonders, to create a weapon to deal with the demonic threat. Vulcan, being a man of few words, but massive talent viewed this undertaking as a necessity. He did not want his creations being tainted and destroyed by the demonic filth, but to craft a worthy weapon he would need a great deal of power. Using many trade secrets and metals that no longer exist on this Earth, Vulcan began to craft a sword that glowed as bright as the sun, and could purge the darkness and sickness from the Earth.
Using Primordial blood from many powerful members of his species as a component and the core of the Earth as his forge, Vulcan achieved his goal of crafting a blade without equal. The blade, which glowed a vibrant yellow when in the hands of a Primordial, would never dull, and had a strong connection to the elements of the Earth: wind, water, fire, and earth. This connection granted the wielder a heightened connection to said elements, allowing them to manipulate them, and wield them as though the forces answered to them and them alone. The sword's edge would never dull and the strength of the blade's metal would have no rival, the blade being practically indestructible due to the nature of Vulcan's forging methods.
The Ashbringer, as it was named by Vulcan after a few field tests against a few unknowing demons, was given to Ares, the strongest "warrior" among the Primordials to wield against the invading forces. Ares would wield the blade, but after the Fall of the Primordials, and Ares' death at the hands of a horde of thousands of demons, Vulcan reclaimed the sword. Vulcan, injured vastly during his reclamation of the sword, would go into hiding with the blade, and connected himself with the primal leylines of the world as he continued to strengthen the blade's power by consistently imbuing the blade with his own energy and the natural powers of the Earth that flowed freely through the leylines. He knew that one day a man would arrive to claim the sword and would wield it against the evils of the world, but in the meantime he would insure the blades safety and insure that it would be as strong as possible once the hero of prophecy arrived to claim his sword.
