» Appearance Written: Kei is a rather average Japanese-descended woman. She has black hair to her waist and almond eyes. This is in reference to both shape and color. Kei stands at about five-foot-four and has an average weight to match. Her bust isn't even ridiculously huge at only 83cm. Perhaps the most un-Japanese part about her is her attire. Kei never wears anything even remotely Asian once outside of her Shihakkusho. In fact, she dresses rather conservatively. Nothing that would normally give someone a peek at her underthings exists in her wardrobe. Well, except for the one outfit that shows her bellybutton if she is not wearing an undershirt. That's about it though. Kei doesn't like showing off her body, no matter how many people might think it is attractive.

» Personality:
Kei is distant. That's a weird way to start off a personality, as people normally would go "Wow, Kei is awesome, and I want to get close to her!" Well, you can't. Kei gets close to you, not the other way around. You try to force yourself into her life, she will burn you until your ashes have ashes. Despite it seeming like distrust, it's her being shy. She'll be cold around you until she's comfortable. She's observing, seeing what that person is like. Or rather, to see if they're trustworthy to warm up to. As soon as she decides that person is trustworthy, it's almost like another person took over. She's a lot more easy-going and would even make a joke or two with them. It only continues from there.

Despite Kei's general shyness and avoidance of people, she is the type to believe it's innocent until proven guilty. Unless they're an Arrancar or something. Then she's more than a little biased. Kei stands up for strangers if she knows they're wrongly accused. It's not because she wants to make friends or is trying not to be shy. Kei just wants to see something good come out of the world. If she stands up for someone, she hopes that someone else will stand up for her. Why not stand up for herself, you might ask? Well, she doesn't feel as though she can.

Kei is someone who hates herself more than anyone. Not in the sense that she feels that other people hate her, but in the sense that she doesn't hate anyone else more than she hates herself. There was always a void within Kei. She wants to be able to fight and take down anything that stands in her path. She wants to be able to strike down a foe, no matter how strong. She's lucky to make sure someone's legs aren't sore after training. In battle, Kei just wants to get it over with. She'll end combat quickly in just about every situation. Kei wants no one to suffer, so she always aims to kill. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the right mindset for such a desire. She's not the type to kill, no matter how much she wants to.



» History:
Most of Kei's early history no one knows. Well, two people know, but you know the old adage—two can keep a secret if one is dead. Kei was born in the Zaraki district of the Rukongai. She had a hard-beat life, as with anyone in the Zaraki district. The difference is that it's where the strongest survive... and well, it is hard to argue how Kei survived. She wasn't even close to being the strongest, and she only survived because of her foster father, Bunta Makabe. Bunta was a rough man with one arm. He scared away any man, woman, or beast who tried to harm his little girl. Kei idolized the old man. He was strong and did what he could to protect her. She always said as a child 'I'm gonna grow up and marry you!' To which he only laughed. Marriage wasn't really common in this part of the Zaraki district... Women didn't have long lifespans.

Bunta was a rather dilligent man when it came to teaching her. He taught her mainly on the way things used to be done. Kei was born at the cusp of a new era. Bunta had been seriously wounded during some of the incidents with the Gotei 13's Research and Development division. He had been branded a deserter for not following his orders and was dishonorably dishcarged. Combined with his missing arm, it was nigh-impossible for him to find work. Thus, he went lower and lower in the Rukongai until he landed in Zaraki. He taught his little girl all about how to fight. He taught her how proud one should be when they're slaying their enemies and protecting the things themselves and the ones they cared about.

Kei took what Bunta taught her to heart. She wanted to protect him, as her own parents had thrown her away. She watched as Bunta's health worsened over the years. Even being a soul didn't entirely take away ailments. Some grew sick, but most did not. Perhaps a weaker, or even incomplete, soul was to blame. Bunta was, unfortunately, one of the weaker ones. As he grew too weak to fight off anyone, Kei protected him. Kei was the knight of a ailing king. She had to protect him while he got better. His recovery was the top priority. It never came.

Kei enrolled in the academy only a century ago. She repeated three years of academy work, as she failed to have the conviction that many other Shinigami had. The only exception was when she tended the wounds of injured classmates. At a professor's suggestion, she enrolled in Kaidou classes. Although difficult and requiring a hefty regiment of anatomy classes, Kei did excel in them. She was even able to apply the knowledge learned in those classes to her other studies. Her Kidou was especially helped by this. After graduation, Kei was sent to the Fourth Division. As time went on and the Gotei was restructured, Kei was sent to the Healing subdivision of the newly formed 2nd Division of the Gotei United.



» Equipment: Kei carries around a first-aid kit with her almost always. This has needle and thread as well as a scalpel included besides standard bandages, gauze, and minor painkillers.



» Racial Abilities:
Kidou: Kei is rather skilled with Bakudou. She seems to have a talent for those skills that do not harm a target or risk harm. Even some of the more dangerous Bakudou she can perform seem to have a "dull brutality" to them. It's like comparing someone who uses a heavy chain to someone who uses a velvet-coated steel cable. It's probably about the same toughness to break out, but Kei's are far more comfortable to be bound by.
Kaidou: Kei's true skill comes from her Kaidou. She is progressing extremely well in being able to heal serious wounds, although she is far from a master at it. Again, Kei's Kaidou feels more gentle and calm than most. It's not like a mother, but a wisened surgeon.

» Inner World: Unknown

» Zanpakutô Appearance: Kei's Zanpakutō is not exactly a katana. It has a semi-curved blade that ends like a katana, but the handle is far too large for a katana and the blade far too short for a nodachi. It is incredibly unbalanced but provides decent cutting power.


» Sealed Zanpakutô Power: Despite not knowing her Zanpakutou's name, Kei at least knows its nature. The Zanpakutou is most definitely a Fire-type. When Kei focuses hard on her Zanpakutou, it begins to heat up. The blade never heats up to be scalding hot, but it provides enough heat to keep someone warm in the winter if they hold it close. Kei uses this as a way to heal—soothing aching muscles mainly. Trying to find a comfortable way to practice Jizen when her Zanpakutou does this is one of the many reasons she has not been able to communicate with her Zanpakutou.
