A Shinigami learns to drive

“So this is called the ‘standard’ car?” Tanken looked at the car admiringly He remembered when these things top speed was about twenty miles an hour. He had learned how to drive one of those horseless carriages from a friend. But clearly a lot had changed since he was in the mortal coil. His gigai easily allowed him to interact and did appear of age that he could drive by amarcan laws.

He touched the car lightly he never really had much to spend his pay cheaks on which due to the long hours of fourth squad were considerable. And right now looking at this car an almost need came over him. he went threw his wallet the soul society provided all shinigami with proper identification, and among the ID and credit card there was something else. a drivers license even though Tanken had not filled out the forms to receive one from soul society it seemed that a happy mistake had occurred in his favor.

Tanken took one more look at the sales man who then asked if he would like to test drive the car before buying it. “No need here is the cash ill take it!” the man looked dumb founded as tanken droped more then what was needed in cash into the mans hand not caring for any of the paperwork that was needed tanken opened the car door and sat down in the drivers seat. A few minutes later he was attempting to drive it off the lot.

Renji, was walking along, the city of America. How, he got here, well apparently, there were missions and rumors, of hollows traveling over into all different corners of the world, so he had to go on a mission. Right now, at the current moment, he didn't sense much hollow activity. So he decided, he would try to get to learn, what one did in "The USA". That, however was easier said then done. He was even more of a foreigner here, then he was in japan, or even karakura town. That being said, he walked over to what seemed like a car sales auction. He was intrigued, all of the cars, were so colorful, and elaborate. Done over with interesting designs, of many things, that caught Renji's eye. He walked over to see what was going on, but there were closing up. He then looked at one of the cars driving off and began to follow it. He looked inside of it, to see a familiar shinigami. One, that he probably passed by, in soul society. Dex. without much of a entrance, or any idea he opened the door and jumped in. Curiously, looking around, like a foreigner, would with objects, that were foreign to his mind. Just, what did he get himself into?

“Vice captain Aberi?” Tanken looked over at the vice-captain surprised to see someone of his rank in well his car. But the supprise dwindled when they finally got off the lot and onto the street. this hole driving thing wasn’t that hard after all he thought as he relaxed into his seat, his foot on the gas pedal relaxing slightly and pressing down as the car absentmindedly began to accelerate.

“What brings you to America Renji? I thought your main jurisdiction was Karakura town.” in all truth Tanken had not expected any shinigami to be in America Driving standard meant that one had to shift gears in order to go faster, so luckily there speed toped out. Unfortunately Tanken was no longer looking at the road to notice the light change.

Renji, chuckled and looked over at tenken. "Well, my main juridistiction use to be within Karakura town, but lately there have been rumors and hearings of hollows coming into karakura town, and attacking, people here in america" he said as he looked at the car, and all of the controls. All of this, was something very very very new to his mind. He scratched his head, and had a sweat drop. "Um...what is this thing?" he asked curiously. He didn't know what it was, yet he felt he wanted to jump inside of it. "a...caru?" he said, trying to pronounce it. Renij wasn't a wordly man, and even in these 400 years, he didn't get to travel that much. He, was still confused, and dazed. Not knowing what to do with this car, he simply looked forward and decided to let tenken, work the car around. He seemed to be knowing what he was doing.

“Its called a car its an English word I think, I found a license that allows me to operate it in my wallet. though im still not entirely sure on how it works I read the manual and also this neat little book that told me what the different sighns on the road means for instance a red light on those things up there means Oh shit!”

Tanken looked up as he pointed seeing that it was infact red and he was about to run it. slaming on the breaks and taking his foot off the gass the car screeched to a halt. He breathed slightly as he sighed. “Stop, green light go and yellow is kind of a warning… like I said I don’t really understand it all but I get a good feeling from this car.”

Renji's eye's widened for a split second, as they were talking, tenken noticed that he made a mistake, by not looking at the road. And instinctively made sure to stop, in mid point. "Arghhh!" he screamed a bit, as the two stopped at the red light, Renji took some deep breaths, while looking around. He still wasn't use to the feeling of being inside a car. "I...See...." he said taking a few deep breaths, while looking over at tenken.

He then looked around to the other cars outside. "Man...i don't get what any of these things are, i never was good with technology" he said with a sigh as he crossed his arms. he looked out at some civilians at their cars and seen they had their seat belts on, so he took the action within his mind, and fastened his own seat belt. Though, that's all he did. as he waited for tenken to start the car once again. Still oblivious, to what chaos would ensue today.

Tanken began to drive again once it was his turn. This time managing his speed and working the car as well as he could. “There is a place called a high way that I have been hearing about that would allow us to really see how fast this thing can go. I doubt its anywhere as fast as shunpo but I have to say that for a machine this handles really well. nothing like the ones they had back when I was alive.”

Tanken took a turn and then found the road sign that welcomed them onto a highway. Changing gears he began to accelerate. “she has five gears… were going at gear one right now…. so gear three should be good?” as he spoke he kicked into mid gear as the car really began to move… but before he did this he followed renji’s idea and clicked his seat belt on. as the car truly began to tear up the road.

Renji, closely looked at tenken, while looking out at the road, and his surrounding areas. To him, he still wasn't getting the use of this. Mostly because he had never bothered to remember a time, about cars, or anything else in earth world for that matter. Nonetheless, he was quite intrigued by how much Tenken knew, about these contraptions. "So you use to drive these bad boys when you were alive?" he asked curiously. He, always wondered how it was to live life on earth, before going up to Soul society, after death. "Hmmm..." he was slowly becoming interested in how things worked down here, as well.


"....you sure you know what you're doing though?" he asked curiously, as they began to go on the high way, to test out the speed of the car. he was a bit nervous. It seemed that tenken, was as oblivious to this, as Renji was. However, he happened to know a bit more of info, then Renji did. So, he decided he'd just keep a look out. While tenken put his foot on the gear, Renji sat still, planting himself as the speed of the car got faster. it was a bit scary, since he didn't know that a car could go this fast; he had probably re called being inside one, with ichigo, and the crew. But, those were long times ago.

“In my day cars were vary different the first few were just coming out, however since my family lived on a farm we worked with one we were no experts but they helped move things around. I don’t really remember much about my life such as it was hundreds of years ago at least that’s how it feels. I never did keep track of any passing of time. as to my driving experience’s well yeah I guess I used to drive every once and a while… we didn’t have things like seat belts… or doors hell were the lucky ones by comparison.”

Tanken’s reflexes allowed him to maneuver the car well. and in fact as time went on he was starting to feel more and more confident behined the weel. The steering wheel was something that never really changed and even though there were a lot more cars on the road and it was more advanced then he was used to, the thought crossed his mind that he was doing pretty well for what he was doing. the car continued to speed up passing people around them. and slightly veering the car in-between lanes to stay ahead of the traffic. “And I will tell you right now that this car handles a hell of a lot better.”
