She Sat by Me

In my mind within the depth of a well

Darkened sky, brightened water

She sat by me when I fought a hard battle

Against the rough torrent of imaginations

Others cannot see her

As she was a shadow of herself

Just as others cannot see me for the same reason

We both understood and felt the same way

I may be crazy, but I can see her

When even my mother could not

Mother...never heard a sigh from my dismay

Her words of briar and sunlight

But that girl still stood by me

Praising my existence

I know why she stayed

She cared about me for more years than anyone else

Twenty-two years and she still look so young

She knows one secret to my inner peace

Five words of great importance

“Love yourself before loving others.”

I know one truth from my heart

She is a friend within my own mind...I have to trust myself.
