Return of The Death [Rukia/Ichigo/Ryuzawa] Empty Return of The Death [Rukia/Ichigo/Ryuzawa]

Hell butterflies swarmed around her the moment she paused in front of the glow of the Senkaimon's doors, and her stomach gave the all too familiar lurch signalling to Rukia that she was nearing the World of the Living. Rukia reached out, her fingertips tracing the wooden frame; she couldn't recall the number of times she had travelled through it, but nonetheless, each time brought her great comfort. This time was no different from the others, yet everything almost felt as if things were perfect - perhaps a little too perfect - as she used her fingers slide the door open, the light of the February day in Karakura bursting forth with a warmth that she was scarcely graced with on the grounds of the Kuchiki manor. As soon as she passed over the threshold, the Senkaimon dematerialized, vanishing from sight.

The sunlight danced across her skin, the rippled texture of her indigo irises, and the fine blue highlights of each of her glossy black strands of hair illuminated her dewy porcelain flesh with an ethereal glow. Exiting the gateway, the Shinigami noted that she had arrived near the Urahara Shop, her feet autonomously carrying her across the dirt lot it sat upon, until she reached the glass-paned doors with a rush of familiarity and nostalgia.

Return of The Death [Rukia/Ichigo/Ryuzawa] RxhG0y1

She balked instantly. Kisuke and Tessai were out to lunch, indicated by the childish sign tacked to the door that included a picture of the two, Kisuke wielding a fork and knife, and Tessai flexing his very muscular arm. 'Of all times to go to lunch, he chose now.. How typical of him.' Raising a hand, she shielded her eyes from the burning rays of the sun, peering impatiently at the sky to inspect the position of the sun; an attempt to gauge the time of day.

Another day, another routine patrol detail. Where some of his colleagues might have turned their noses up at the idea of subjecting themselves to this sort of tedium, Ryuzawa was happy to volunteer for these assignments. Ensuring the undisturbed balance of the flow of souls to and from the living world was the chief duty of the Shinigami, after all.

And what better place to garner experience in this duty than Karakura? What had once been a humble town had transformed over centuries into a vast crucible of otherworldly influence and affairs, a place the Gotei had always paid keen attention to. There could be no more suitable assignment on which a rookie Shinigami might cut their teeth.

So it was that Ryuzawa had spent the better part of three days in the city so far. But it was not his patrol routes which brought him to this lesser-travelled stretch, not at all; merely personal curiosity, for he had sensed a familiar, powerful reiatsu, emerging on the spot some distance away. A Shinigami crossing the threshold of a Senkaimon? It bore investigation.

Sure enough, when Ryuzawa came to a stop to look upon a small, courtyard-like space facing the front facade of a humble-looking shop, he found a familiar diminutive figure standing in front of it, scowling up at the building as if expecting the doors to slide open before her.

"Lieutenant Kuchiki?" he dared to call out. "I wasn't aware of any new reports... What brings you out here?"

Her ears prickled, and she pivoted on her heel, turning to face whoever had adressed her. She found him, her coming to a stop once her gaze met his form. "There shall be no such report. I'm not on official duty, Hogosha-san,"she said. Her tone of voice remained hard, and formal, tinkling as the words left her throat. Rukia's thin eyebrows knitted together, though her facial expression was calm and composed; the Shinigami's posture being that of a noble's.

Her cold stare flitted to Ryuzawa's face, boring holes into it, as she questioned him in response, "Might I ask what brings you here?" Amusement presented itself upon her face, replacing the furrowed brows that had previously graced her face; Rukia's expression softening somewhat in turn, her eyes twinkling as she looked to Ryuzawa expectantly.

Ichigo yawned as he walked through the streets of Karakura, making his way to see if Kisuke was in to see what the hell the crazy guy was doing. Of course, he had no idea Urahara was gone and that Rukia was there at the store. Despite 400+ years of training Ichigo's ability to sense reiatsu and the energy of other beings in general was still not all that great. He ran a single hand through his hair subconsciously as he walked through the streets; the area far more technological than it had been in the past. Obviously, after a length of time many things are bound to change; and he bore witness to that in the time before he had perished as a mortal being. Even after that time, things only continued to change, evolve, and become advanced. Likely something that was unavoidable, but, it was welcome to see improvement in Karakura; a place that he defended many years ago.

Ichigo continued to walk through the streets still, not really doing much as he passed by areas that bore familiarity to his past. He even passed a shop or two he may have visited some time ago for this or that; but he didn't recognize all of it due to how things had expanded. Not to mention a lot of those businesses had likely expired and been replaced by another business; these things happen after all. Ichigo sighed softly and continued to walk, stuffing his hands into the jacket he was wearing. Not like it was cold, but, it was certainly temperate enough for him to wear a thin jacket; nothing too bad after all.

As Ichigo neared the Urahara shop he felt something strangely... familiar. Ichigo stopped and looked in the general direction of the energy trace he was vaguely sensing and tilted his head before he continued to walk; a small smile flicking across Ichigo's lips as he realizes who it was. It was only a matter of time before she noticed him too, but, there was another trace... one far less prominent, but, it was one he did not recognize. Ichigo mulled it over in his head but simply shrugged it off. He could sense the trace was that of a Shinigami, so it wasn't like whoever this was he was sensing would be a threat, but, it was still surprising to find a trace he did not know. Then again, it's not like he was in touch with the Gotei as much anymore. He was still in the Combat Squad, but, it would be hard to say that he knew everyone there.

Ichigo eventually rounded the all too familiar corner as his eyes fell upon Urahara's shop; and two figures standing there. One of them was the being he did not recognize but the other... The other was a raven haired female, short in stature, and, well, it would be a lie to say Ichigo did not recognize her. He walked forwards towards the girl and called out to her.

"Rukia! It's been a while hasn't it?"

There was a soft smile upon Ichigo's face as he walked up to Rukia. Of course, it was soon replaced by his normal look; which was nothing too incriminating either. He would continue to walk up to Rukia unless he was interrupted. Otherwise, he would walk up to her and just catch up with the girl who he had risked much to save years ago. Of course, the same could be said of his other friends, but, Ichigo tried to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders alone. But, he always had his friends to help him in the end.

"Ichigo," Rukia breathed, taking in the sight of him. She gave him a nod, her lips curling upwards to form a faint smile, before she returned Ichigo's scowl. It didn't phase her. Quite frankly, it made her smile internally as it reminded her of the olden days, when the two of them had first met; her thoughts now drifting far back, to when he was 15 years of age, to when he took all of her powers from her, and was physically assaulted by Isshin Kurosaki at any chance he got. But as she scowled at Ichigo, she couldn't help but notice how much he had grown - he was taller, and his face had matured, but his whiskey hued eyes remained the same, albeit now accompanied by dark circles around them.

She paused for a moment, a small frown now evident upon her face. Squinting, and inclining her head forward, she spoke again, her voice gently subdued, hushed, "What all has changed here?" Her frown only deepened at the thought. Had she missed something? Her fingers twitched at her sides; as of late, the Shinigami had become increasingly worried, about Ichigo, the Kurosaki family, and the World of The Living as a whole. She hadn't returned to Karakura for over 300 years; however, she hadn't seen Ichigo in the flesh for what felt like much longer.

She welcomed Ichigo's reiatsu as it enveloped her petite frame, almost like his version of a hug. This was the boy - no, man - who had saved her, like a fool, 400+ years ago. He would always be a part of her, lingering in the back of her mind, but seeing him standing before her emphasized this fact. From the day she pierced his heart with her zanpakutou in order to rescue his family and herself, to the day he saved her from her execution, Rukia would be forever in his debt.

Ichigo raised an eyebrow slightly tilted his head, wondering why she mimicked his "scowl". A smile flicked across his lips as Ichigo could not help but smile at the girl he had saves. However, the smile did not last as he returned once more to how his face naturally looked; which could be reminiscent of a scowl. Ichigo rubbed the back of his neck as he thought on the question that was posed to him. He sighed softly and looked at Rukia, directly in her eyes, and spoke after a few more seconds of contemplation.

"Quite a lot has changed. Karakura has expanded. Obviously there are technological improvements... but, I actually am unsure what has happened to my sisters and dad. Last I checked Karin and Yuzu were in the Soul Society... I dunno about my old man."

He sighs softly and pops his neck after a little bit before he readjusts his gaze to focus on Rukia; peering at her. It was at this moment he had taken in some traits he had missed in the past. After all, even with about 300+ years in the mix; Shinigami don't change much. However, she seemed different... she seemed to look far more mature than in the past. Her hair was cut shorter, she was a little bit taller, and she seemed to be more of a woman than just some girl he had met a long time ago back in Karakura; the same girl who he saved and likely was still going to give him shit about it. Something he could only chuckle about, since, despite her possibly being in her debt; he didn't consider her so. Guess you could call it an obligation of them being friends/comrades/ or whatever it is they are. One has to wonder if there's more...

He chuckled softly and then realized she had certainly gained power in the past; her reiatsu being more prominent than before and her energy having increased. Especially past the days long past. Even if she would call him a fool for saving her life; he had to. In truth, though he may never say it, Rukia was someone that was always lingering in the back of his mind. Even when he lost his Shinigami powers for a time, she still ebbed away at the back of his mind like the tide; always coming back after it had receded only shortly. He rubbed the back of his head softly, realizing how long it may have actually been since he had seen Rukia. Sure, there was a moment in time where Ichigo was more a part of the Gotei, even though he technically still is. He sighed softly and took a slight glance at the other Shinigami before he looked back to Rukia.

"Would you want to walk around Karakura some. I have to admit, even I'm not too familiar with some of the newer areas."

Ichigo continued to look at Rukia for a few moments as he looked away and scratched the side of his head. He soon looked back towards her, wondering what may be going through her head. He simply sighs and waits for her reply, looking at her and wondering what may happen next.

"Just about as much as I'd like you throwing me to Renji," she quipped, her throat chiming with bell-like laughter; it was a gentle sound, and much more gentle than the noble herself appeared. "Hopefully you've caught on that I'm only kidding," Rukia sensed that Ichigo was about to have one of his infamous outbursts at her failed wisecrack. She smirked at the thought, her peach hued lips curling up at one corner; her expression bemused.

"I think us meandering around new Karakura is in order," she mentioned to the Substitute Shinigami, before she turned her attention to Ryuzawa, who was still standing near her, "You can accompany if you wish, Ryuzawa-san," she said with cool formality. Rukia shot Ichigo a warning glance — as if to tell him to keep his mouth shut, especially considering he was still active in the Gotei, like herself — her mask of professionalism reappeared upon her face, and she sent a nod in Ryuzawa's direction before she once again regarded Ichigo.

"I do need to speak with Kisuke in relation to my gigai, but you know how he is... So we might as well head for the Clinic, eh?" She asked him, before the chill in the air began to condense, swirling around her and toussling her ebony locks as if there were a breeze; melding with her reiatsu in order to form a humanoid figure. This figure was identical in all facets to Rukia — she created her own gigai, which now rested slumped in front of her.

The noble merely motioned forward, her feet carrying her to her newly acquired gigai, whom she stepped into in order to inhabit. She rose to her feet, taking a standing position, and then brushing the dirt from her buttocks. Rukia was now clad in a pale pink ruffled chiffon skirt accompanied by black fleece leggings underneath, a yellow, buttoned jacket lined with soft white sherpa, and a pink scarf with a distinct miniature Chappy head pinned to it; upon her feet were a pair of brown, calf-length boots. She cocked her head to one side, as if she were beckoning to Ichigo and Ryuzawa nonverbally with a, "Shall we?"

Ichigo raised an eyebrow slowly before he chuckled to himself softly and smiled a little at Rukia. At least, that was before the comment about throwing her to Renji. His eye twitched slightly and he sighed for a moment, hoping she was joking. Which, of course, she was. He sighed softly after he had groaned softly and rubbed the back of his head. He chuckled at Rukia before he simply relaxed some and crossed his arms, returning to his normal facial expression; which Rukia characterized as a "scowl". He then heard that she was indeed messing with him, saving him from an outburst; but not from a smile from Rukia that was rather nice to see. Even if it was a smirk in the end.

"I figured you were messing with me. Besides, I would have carried you out of there myself if I didn't have to fight some other Shinigami."

He continued to keep his natural expression as he watched Rukia closely, amazed by how much she really had not changed; but she had certainly stayed the same where it counted. Ichigo continued to keep his arms crossed as he averted his gaze to this "Ryuzawa". Ichigo raised an eyebrow, uncertain why he was here as the city had enough defenses on its own. He simply sighed, and put aside the thought; not really wanting to concern himself with it as he found no reason to concern himself with it. He waved to Ryuwaza shortly, looking him in the eyes.

"Kurosaki, Ichigo; Shinigami Daiko."

Soon enough Ichigo averted his gaze back to Rukia, looking into her eyes; which take on a hue much like that of a purple color. Maybe even that of a blue color; hard to tell since Ichigo didn't pay attention to eye color all too often. He placed his hands in his pockets and stood there for a couple moments as he simply watched Rukia and listened to her, simply letting her speak before she brought up the Kurosaki Clinic. At the mention of that old place, a single hand was removed from his pocket; putting said hand on the back of his neck.

"Actually, I don't even know if that old house is even there anymore. I don't have much time to explore the city thanks to what I do. I think the old clinic could have eventually become the hospital in Karakura; or at least I think it is."

The orange haired Shinigami looked up slightly as he thought about it before he sighed softly and could only shrug slightly; taking on a more neutral expression.

"Could always drop by the place I am staying in. Nothing like my house, I dunno if there is a closet in my room to stay in, but if you need to remain here for a bit I'm sure I have a spare bed or something."

He smiled at her before he watched her create a Gigai out of her ability. He raised an eyebrow slowly and chuckled at what Rukia had done; which was create a Gigai. He stared at this for a moment until he was able to tear his focus away from it. He popped his neck and then watched as Rukia got into the Gigai. He extended a hand towards her after she got into the Gigai, but, he did not expect her to take it.

After Rukia got up to her feet, Ichigo examined her for a moment before he nodded to her motion. He would then fall in step with Rukia, leading the way, despite their steps likely matching despite the height difference.

"Even I don't recognize much of Karakura anymore. It's surprisingly different now... there are some things that still remain the same, but, the change is rather drastic. If you want, we could go to Karakura high."

Ichigo grinned as he led the way towards the old highschool that they both had spent much time together in. Of course, that was basically a long time ago. Seeing Rukia made a lot of that time seem quite far away, but, it strangely felt close as well. Ichigo continued to lead the way to Karakura high, wondering what may come of this visit.

Rukia's seemingly blank facial expression cracked, brightening almost instantaneously at the mention of Karakura High School. She rose to her tip-toes so she could be square in the face with Ichigo. Despite her politeness and formal exterior, Rukia had her whimsical moments. Her eyes twinkled as she gazed up at him before she spoke, "Do you reckon Ochi-sensei is still around?"

A thought crossed Rukia's mind: Ochi-sensei was human.. She'd most likely passed on to the Seireitei. The twinkle in her eyes diminished, and she quickly dropped from the tips of her toes, her feet falling flat upon the dusty earth beneath them; her facial expression returning to its blank, rigid state.

Following her previous motion, the Shinigami looked to the rooftops of this new, foreign Karakura, attempting to decipher the direction in which they should head. She didn't recognize anything, and raised a hand to the back of her head, mimicking Ichigo's signature move before she started off, down the street side street that looked like it lead towards the center of the city. She was uncertain of where Karakura High School now was amongst the new infrastructure in place, but she figured Ichigo wouldn't let her stray too far — she wasn't Kon, anyways.

Ichigo was a little surprised as Rukia got so close to his face in nearly an instant. She hadn't been this close to him in literally years. His lips became a little scrambled, nearly like a wavy line, as his face took on the slightest tint of pink for only a moment before he heard her mention Ochi-Sensei; their teacher. The same teacher who had hit Ichigo with a book, or something in general, many a time. He rubbed the back of his neck, looking down for a moment before he looked back into Rukia's eyes.

"She may be in the soul Society, but, I truly don't know what happened to her after I passed into the Soul Society myself..."

Ichigo rubbed the back of his neck and sighed softly before he went with Rukia through Karakura. He made sure to keep a sharp eye on Rukia; getting her to follow him if she ever strayed off too much. Now, it wasn't wrong to assume that Karkaura high had moved around since they were both there; Rukia there mainly to masquerade as a student while she waited for her powers to come back. At least, at first. The other times were to be prepared for any pending invasions like with Aizen.

Ichigo sighed and soon guided Rukia, and possibly Ryuzawa, to Karakura high; the school looking far more technologically advanced than the place ever had. Ichigo looked up at the building and whistled softly. He chuckled and looked at Rukia after a second, smiling at her.

"It's probably bigger than both of us have seen or remember, but, it's still Karakura high. I can make out some familiar areas of the building compared to that of things in the past."

He pointed out a few different areas and his hand soon gestured to a window which he knew all too well. He looked at it and could only feel himself mentally punch himself over it; the time he didn't want to tell Tatsuki about what happened to Orihime. Didn't help that the Soul Society wouldn't help at the time, but, Rukia helped him... as did his friends. They always seemed to get out of those bad situations pretty well off thanks to all the help they got in the end; or was it luck? Whatever it was, everything ended well; everyone lived. Ichigo looked at Rukia and gave her a soft smile before his natural facial expression returned.

"Not sure if you remember, but, that's the window Tatsuki smashed my head against when I wouldn't tell her what happened to Orihime. Felt it was right that she shouldn't know; it would only cause more worry... but, it all ended well."

He sighed softly and popped his neck as he then looked back to Rukia, wondering what may be crossing her mind right now. Whatever it may be, it was hard to say as he thought of how long it had been since he saw Rukia smile. He simply waited to see what may happen; after all, the day was still new and the sun had not yet set.
