» Sealed Zanpakutô Power:
Hagane no Kono Yarō (Bastard of Steel): Yen'fay has a single Zanpakutō that takes the form of the blade on his left hip. Though it appears almost entirely similar to his primary weapon, there is a very slight difference: The tsuba is gold instead of silver. This weapon is rather odd as it shouldn't actually exist, defying the laws of Zanpakutō. When Yen'fay first obtained Son'sin the weapon didn't have a blade, consisting solely of everything below. In order to rectify this, Yen'fay went directly to Ōetsu Nimaiya who, instead of forging him a blade, brought him to the Soul King himself. It was then revealed to Yen'fay by Nimaiya that the reason Son'sin didn't have a blade was because as an Asauchi it had been influenced by the Soul King's Reiryoku, and had split into two pieces: the hilt and the blade. Yen'fay had been given the hilt while the blade stayed in the Soul King's palace.
However, after passing multiple tests from Ōetsu Yen'fay was deemed worthy of taking back his Zanpakutō's blade. Due to the immense power radiating from the blade and Yen'fay's inability to completely control it, a portion of it was split off into a second blade which, after having a tsuba and hilt forged for it, was named the Bastard of Steel. It doesn't possess it's own Zanpakutō Spirit and Son'sin doesn't feel connected to it even remotely, yet it exists as a completely separate weapon. Due to it's specific power, as well as the fact that Yen'fay rarely has to release his Zanpakutō into a higher form, Hagane no Kono Yarō usually ends up being his primary weapon in combat. While maintaining the same durability and cutting power of Son'sin, it possesses an entirely different ability from the Zanpakutō.
This weapon possesses the power of Fushin, or "Disbelief". It functions, as it's name suggests, by disbelieving anything and everything it comes into contact with. However, it isn't quite that simple. It doesn't do this by destroying things it cannot cut, it operates almost entirely differently. It brings into reality the disbelief of what it cuts. If an object "does" something, then the disbelief of that something is made true. For example, if it comes into contact with a rock which "is very difficult to break", suddenly the rock can crumble from almost any force including a light breeze. However, the thing the object "does" is entirely up to the Bastard. If it comes into a sword which "flows like water", suddenly the weapon becomes extremely difficult to maneuver or use properly. If it were to hit a fighter that "weighs a lot", suddenly they could weigh almost nothing at all. This ability is powerful simply because of it's flexibility and the fact that it can cause either extremely dangerous changes to whatever it hits, reverse the power of an ability, or do something rather useless.
Yen'fay has never come across a being or object completely immune to the Bastard's ability, including those more powerful than him and deity-like individuals. He quickly figured out even the Soul King himself would be vulnerable to this weapon if struck by it, proving it's all-encompassing might. Even Yen'fay and Son'sin, the blade's own wielder and "father" weapon respectively, would be effected by this ability if they were struck somehow.
Fortunately for those struck by the Bastard of Steel, it can only disbelieve in one aspect or trait of an object or person at a time. While it can apply it's disbelief to multiple targets, only one aspect may apply to each one. Also, it cannot reverse an individual's overall power; essentially Fushin cannot turn an 0-2+ into a 5-5 or the reverse. Also, it cannot disbelieve in the existence of anything spirit-related (such as actual people, their spiritual weapons, etc). However it can still disbelief in a particular aspect of these types of items, such as if a Zanpakuto is as hot as fire it can reverse this characteristic. Each thing Hagane no Kono Yarō chooses to not believe in saps at Yen'fay's energy levels, and the greater the disbelief the greater the cost. When Yen'fay sheathes the weapon, everything it disbelieved in resets aka all effects are cancelled. Finally as stated previously, if Hagane no Kono Yarō were to ever hit Yen'fay it would also apply Fushin as nobody and nothing is capable of causing those around it to believe in it fully.
Hamono (Also known as Cold Steel): Due to the nature of Yen'fay's Zanpakutō, a passive ability that is always active no matter his state of being or level of release envelops him completely. Despite acting somewhat as an aura that covers Yen'fay, the distance of the person being effected by it doesn't actually matter. Basically how Hamono functions is any attempt at attacking, harming, altering, or affecting Yen'fay results in a percentage based speed debuff on the individual. If a swordsman attempted to swing at him, they would be slowed; If a mage tried sending a fireball at him, they would be slowed; If a reality-warper tried altering his body in any way shape or form, they'd be slowed; If someone tried using a debuff on him of any kind, they'd be slowed. As stated previously, the distance between the individual and Yen'fay is irrelevant as well as what they try to do to him.
This slow doesn't just apply to movement speed either, it applies to the speed of every action the person would try to commit including the speed of their Kido spells, reactions, and thoughts. To those effected it causes a somewhat groggy feeling to occur, akin to drunkenness. This ability is special in that it doesn't actually slow time, it's more like being drugged without actually drugging the victim. What this means is the vast majority of in-vulnerabilities to alterations and/or defenses against spells and debuffs are rendered moot. Also, the slowing effect actually scales in it's severity. The scaling works essentially by applying "stacks" to the attacker, with every consecutive stack increasing the slow incrementally. For example, if a swordsman swung at Yen'fay three times in one post they would suffer from the original slow and then from two more stacks as well. The scaling of the slow is listed below:
- Initial Stack - 10%
- Two Stacks - 15%
- Three Stacks - 20%
- Four Stacks - 25%
- Five Stacks - 30%
If the victim successfully hits five stacks, they also suffer from a moderate defense debuff. All of the individual's defenses, including passive abilities like an Arrancar's Hierro and altered/increased defenses from abilities or powers, are decreased by 10% for a total of two posts. This does not stack like the slow; if the victim has the slow stacks reset and then hit the five stack mark again before the first defense debuff ends they do not increase the severity of the debuff, though they do reset the post length of it. Finally, the slow stacks reset every posting round. If they get two stacks in their post, once it is their post again they no longer suffer from the slow (though they may still have the defense debuff). This is one of Yen'fay's most powerful abilities and it is just a passive. The primary way to get around this is instead of trying to attack him multiple times consecutively, it's better to just pack as much punch as possible into as few hits as needed. This reduces the chance of hitting the five stack max as well as potentially doing more damage to Yen'fay if he cannot defend himself.

III. History
» History:
Countless years ago, in a time plagued by strife in both the living world and the realm of the dead, a boy was born to a family of great standing in Soul Society. This family, now forgotten in the annals of history, was greater than even the Kuchiki Nobles in their prime. For this reason alone there was tremendous excitement for the birth of a new pure blood heir to the Shiraga name. For sixty days and sixty nights all of Seireitei, much to the chagrin of the brutal military force the Gotei Thirteen was at the time, reveled in parties and entertainment. Despite interrupting many vital services, including the security of Seireitei as a whole, overall very few issues occurred during this time. Thanks to this good fortune, the newborn boy's birthday was from then on considered a holiday for everyone, including those living in Rukongai. Every year for a few days around this date people would spend their time having fun, even in times of chaos and war.
This boy, who was given the name Yen because he hadn't cried once after his birth, was coddled and given everything he could possibly ask for. However, the Shiraga heir asked for very little. As an infant he enjoyed peace and quiet and didn't want to play with any toys. For many people this would seem entirely unusual, but the Shiraga clan was known for the members being oddly serene even in crises. This attitude of Yen's was only further enhanced when, at the age of two years old, his older brother died from irreversible illness. Later in his life he would find out much of the excitement from his own birth was directly due to knowing his older brother Fay, who had been named such because of his rash behavior as an infant, would not live long enough to inherit and thus continue the Shiraga line of succession.
At the ripe old age of three years old Yen's education and training began. Able to read and write far earlier than his predecessors, Yen was hailed as a child genius and intellectual. Part of this was a result of his extraordinarily calm and quiet demeanor as he spent the vast majority of his time studying even as a young child. Though initially seeming to lack social skills, Yen's parents realized it wasn't that he couldn't interact with other kids it was that he didn't prioritize it enough to want to. The boy had no issues not having many or, really, any friends so neither did his parents. Allowing him to stay somewhat secluded, the Shiraga family was actually grateful for his solemn attitude as he would eventually be expected to lead the entire clan.
Excelling in essentially all fields of study, Yen was quickly considered to be a "one in a century" level academic and, even though he was still only yet a child, was being taught and educated by the brightest minds in all of Soul Society. This actually caused the other great clans and families in Seireitei to resent both Yen and the Shiraga clan, something which would only continue to grow through time as he accomplished feat after feat.
When Yen was about seven years old he began showing symptoms of the same illness that took his brother's life years earlier, causing the entire Shiraga clan to break out into panic. For the weeks after he initially showed signs of sickness his parents and fellow clan members did everything in their power to search for a cure, enlisting the help of the greatest medical Kido practitioners alive as well as the foremost doctors in Seireitei and Rukongai. However, nothing seemed to heal him or cause the illness to even slightly abate. Eventually the Shiraga clan resorted to prayer and ancient rituals, no matter the origin. Spells were woven and shrines were built, even some of dubious backgrounds were used. The desperation of the clan only increased with time.
This kept up for a while, almost an entire year in fact, until finally the Shiraga family used all of it's connections and resources to secure a single one way trip to the Soul King's Palace. None of Yen's family members or relatives would be able to accompany him on this journey, and because it was only one way there was a chance he might not even return to Seireitei to lead his house. However, at this point they cared more for his own survival than the line of succession so they willingly gave up almost everything to secure this one last attempt at curing whatever strange sickness he had.
Upon arrival to the Soul King's home Yen was greeted by one of his personal emissaries who was given the task of taking him directly to the progenitor of Soul Society himself. After being washed in the purest waters and dressed in clothing woven by the greatest seamstresses, Yen was brought before the Soul King who, at the time, was not completely in slumber. At this point the boy was barely able to even stand on his own two legs, and yet for three days and three nights he stood before the great linchpin. Ignoring hunger, thirst, and pain he stood unabated and unchanged. It was as if he were possessed, but in truth it was his own indomitable will and solemn regality that kept him alive and upright during this time.
Whether the Soul King sensed greatness in him, was impressed by the boy's willpower, or acted because of a reason beyond mortal understanding, the mightiest spirit gently and elegantly lifted a single finger to Yen's chest and pressed the very tip against his skin. This caused white light to glow brightly from the boy until it enveloped his entire body, encapsulating him in a sphere of energy for only a few minutes before dissipating. Before Yen could even begin to imagine what had happened he was quickly shuffled out of the Soul king's quarters and brought to a room somewhere outside of the main palace where he was allowed to sleep for two months straight without even the slightest movement during this time. It was almost as if the young spirit had died, however his heart remained beating and he dreamt of pure whiteness.
Upon waking from the coma he'd been put in by the Soul King himself, Yen felt as if he had never been sick in the first place. An observer would have no way of guessing just a couple months prior the boy had been at death's door. A strength also welled up inside of him, something he'd never experienced before. Though before he had possessed a graceful demeanor, it was now as if a majestic, glorious aura radiated off him.
