Snekman II: The snekaning

Mirja, The Mad Wolf
Mirja had decided to reach out to her haughty, concieted, but probably helpful none the less hollow guy, Yaksha. After her and Esmi found the den with all lovely little stuff, she decided to let Yaksha in on the secret, if only so he could cross reference where the labs were and stay away form them - or lead hollows to their death for brownie points, either way, really. He deserved that much at least, with Mirja knowing that he was now a target, and his refusal to be taught by Mirja. Of course, there was always a chance that he would not have survived, she wasn't exactly in constant contact with him. Getting grabbed off the streets was entirely possible.
Also, while traveling to the meeting place, she seemed to pick up a tail. Fast as she was, those sniffers were tenacious once they had picked up her scent, and so she knew there would be some unexpected visitors, very soon. She'd need to finish this meeting with Yaksha and then vacate so Yaksha wasn't mullered in the process. Those things loved to bring down the Trolls on Mirja's head, and Trolls were something she struggled with, so Yaksha would be turned into snek soup.
She arrived at the spot, and could hear the hound coming in. He was still a bit distant, but too close for comfort. But then, ten thousand miles was too close for comfort. She really wanted to decipher the map they had got so she could take out whatever lab was churning out these bloody hounds. Then she could move without being so restricted, as she sort to dismantle the Atlas program. What they had pulled from those files indicated she really needed to kill it dead before it ever got anywhere near completion.

The Americas were beginning to get a little too hot for Yaksha's tastes; over the last few months he'd caught flak from at least a handful of spiritually aware humans, all speaking variations on the same theme. It had once been that Yaksha could spend years in a single place before he had to move. But at this point it was barely even a blink of an eye before he had to deal with such overwhelming discontent that he had to pull up roots, and move along. Either out of some entirely absurd sense of self-preservation, or some poor misinformed notion that Yaksha was going to impede their long-term happiness, it always ended the same.
Yaksha was now wandering, humming ever so slightly to himself. It shouldn't take too long in the grand scheme of things before he could return; a decade or so seemed about right for people to forget all about him. If there was one benefit to this long-lived life, it was a very intimate understanding of how long it would take for tragedies to be forgotten and moved past. And that meant he knew exactly when he could rise from the aftermath and drum up the support.
Not that he'd be doing much of any drumming, in the near future; he still had quite a few lofty plans, and he couldn't go anywhere without the next piece that eluded him ever so much. He once more swallowed a vitriolic curse; the one shinigami he'd met in nearly a century, and she wouldn't even speak to him aside from telling him how far behind the curve he was! He still trembled at the sheer heat of spurned pride he had felt on that day. If he saw her again...
Well. It seemed they would find out sooner than expected. Yaksha's head tilted to the side, tongue darting out in agitated excitement, hands folded over his chest. He waited in silence, knowing that it wouldn't take more than a minute or two for Mirja to arrive.
And her guest, naturally. Had there ever been any doubt that the woman would never deign to spend time in his presence if she didn't need something? Oh, well; such was the curse of being malformed. He'd just have to help her dispatch of this pest, and then determine what needed to be done afterwards.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf
Yay, hollow man was on time. She might get away after all. It was lovely, seeing him there, not having to stick around and get his face squashed by this monstrous monster that even she struggled against without a powerful Bankai form. She waved, and then paused for a moment, smiling with evilness. The Troll had not yet arrived, but she wondered if she should wait around until it did, and then pit him against it to see how he had improved. It was an evil plan, but it was great in its evilness. So she gave him a broad wave and scurried over.
"Hey~ so, I've been about the place, and recently found a network that held some interesting data. The major lab locations of Caanan are on this stick, so you can decide were not to go so you are not captured and tortured like an animal" she exclaimed, pulling out a small digital drive, before the hound arrived. It had sickly pale skin, a hunched back, and weedy looking muscles. It's eyes, nose, and ears were much larger than normal, making it have a very strange appearance, over all. It looked like it was going to drop dead of it's own accord soon, so even Yaksha could deal with it.
"So, that's an ugly little thing. It's got your scent now though. We'd best kill it before it tries to get away. These things are such a nightmare when you are trying to do anything that it outside a heavily defended city" She exclaimed, stepping aside to see what the Hollow guy would do. Entertainment would be the price for this data stick, after all. Maybe he was weak enough to be beaten by the pathetic mauling of this humanoid sniffer hound. Only time could tell.

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus
"Now? As in it didn't before? As in you were lying when you said Canaan was already after me? Or was that just another lovely example of someone not thinking before they spoke?"
He snorted ever so slightly, glancing over his shoulder at Mirja, and rolling his eyes in an exaggerated motion of patience. He turned towards the hound, circling it ever so slightly, hands resting by his side. His stance was still absolutely atrocious, full of openings, but the hollow hardly cared; he wasn't here to fight, after all. He simply watched, waiting for any sign at all that the frail, wheezing monstrosity would attempt to strike...or retreat.
He met its gaze brazenly, with an absolute lack of fear, and within moments he could see its gaze starting to shift, its head whipping side to side. It was clearly trying to survey the surrounding area, for what little good it would do; Yaksha had already mapped the terrain thoroughly. He darted forward, sinking his jaw into its hip as soon as it glanced away, his teeth yanking away a bloody mouthful of meat. He swallowed it with a theatrical gulp, then rose his fingers, waggling them at the Hound. It let out a wounded, almost singed-sounding yelp, and then lunged for Yaksha, hands raking across his shell in impotent, pained, panicked hatred.
Or perhaps as a bid for time. Who could say, at this point? Yaksha had no idea that a Troll was on the way, and...to be honest, would it change anything if he knew?

Mirja, The Mad Wolf
Mirja snorted at the claims that she had lied about Caanan. It was a funny accusation, but not one she was going to stand for.
"That's not a metaphor, you know. It literally has your actual scent. It can follow you with it's nose, sniff you out for hundreds of miles. They are relatively new creatures, not seen them around before, and you've not spend such time in the company of the Good Doctor, so they have nothing to go off for you. Just what they can rip out of informants. So Caanan is after you, but doesn't have anything that smells of you, yet. So make sure you are careful what you leave behind from now on" she warned, while he dealt with the Hound. It was violent, messy, and wholly without care or mercy, just as it should have been.
Unfortunately, her wolf ears pricked, and she picked up the slamming of massive weight moving at great speed, before the ground shoot softly with the coming of The Troll. It was heralded in the ground and the air for a few seconds before smashing through the ruins of a once great building, a roar of implacable rage rending the air before the giant wall of muscle and madness charged Yaksha. The unfortunate effect of neglecting the physical would become sharply apparent in the fight against something like this, but fortunately he had a friend to help him against it.....
A friend, who it seemed, had totally vanished from sight. The sly little Wolf girl had absconded and left Yaksha to deal with The Troll in whatever way he saw best. Which was probably just getting pounded into the dirt and entering the cycle of souls for a better try next round, because that was about all he could do against something so powerful, and yet so fast.

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus
"And that'd be it. Of course you wouldn't make anything like this easy. You know, of course, that letting him kill me is a disruption of the balance?"
Yaksha spoke to no one whatsoever, looking up at the sky as he saw the Troll arriving. The creature was enormous, covered in such thick slabs of muscle that it was hideous to behold. And yet it was by no stretch of the imagination slow; a creature that size, one would think, would have a damn hard time maneuvering. But it had a lightness on its feet that was almost startling to watch. Yaksha only needed a few heartbeats to determine, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this creature was far too powerful for him to challenge.
Could he simply open a portal to Hueco Mundo and leave? Probably so, but that would leave the Hound alive, and that would mean that Canaan would be better armed against him. Yaksha had no interest in leaving himself wide open like that; his plans necessitated some degree of stealth. He could try to send the Troll to Hueco Mundo, but a portal that size would take time to finish creating.
His only hope was to try and down this opponent; to buy himself as long as he could, and hope that the beast would be felled eventually. To do it himself was absolute madness.
Then again, hollows were renowned for being mad, weren't they?
He braced himself, tail coiling beneath himself, his entire body trembling with concern as he watched the beast approaching. Or maybe it was laughter; it seemed after two or three seconds, he could be heard chuckling, ever so slightly. There was a thick, almost garbled quality to it, as faint flickers of red light could be seen between his teeth. The Troll stopped for just a couple of seconds, assessing this new threat...as if trying to determine whether he should charge, or jump, or find a projectile to toss.
Finally, he seemed to settle on the latter; one hand reached down, grabbing a chunk of earth, and yanking it out with the same careless ease one would use to tear cardboard apart. And then it flung the thing right at Yaksha's head. The hollow hardly even seemed to notice, too busy on charging the cero.
At the last moment, there was a dazzling, blinding beam of light, that filled the air, leaving visibility next to nill. And there was enormous clouds of dust and dirt filling the area where Yaksha had been. There was no sound, no sign whatsoever that he was still alive.
After approximately a minute, the dust cleared, to reveal...a hole. A perfectly circular hole, about ten feet deep, not far from Yaksha. And there wasn't even a splatter of blood from Yaksha's remains; the only sign that he had ever been there was his tail, smashed to a perfect pulp.
Another tectonic disruption. The ground lurched, and it sounded like there had been a grenade going off underground. More faint plays of red light, and then there were fissures all throughout the ground. From one, Yaksha's voice drifted up, faintly amused, weirdly modulated.
"Any good at Whack-a-Mole?"

Mirja, The Mad Wolf
Mirja watched from above, perched on a rocky outcrop, and saw that the Troll was not expecting Yaksha. But it didn't take long to adapt, sinking it's hands into the earth and launching a projectile that was countered via Cero. The Cero made a dust of things, and Mirja resolved to wait until it cleared instead of going down there. The Troll, was not so patient however. Mere seconds after the cero exploded it's projectile, it rushed in, swinging blindly until it was clear that it's prey was nowhere to be found, and then screaming in rage before freezing when the voice appeared.
Mirja heard it, and realized what Yaksha's plan was after seeing the whole in the ground. He was going to toy with the creature and hope to win a battle of attrition. However, watching the creature hear the voice and then clasp it's fists together, Mirja noticed that Yaksha had overestimated his opponent's intelligence. Hearing that his foe had somehow turned into the ground, The Troll brought both meat-slaps down with colossal might on the floor. Normally this attack would crack and sunder the ground, leaving it scarred and disfigured. But with Yaksha's subterranian edits, the effects were much broader.
Uterlizing the tunnels that Yaksha had made, the shockwave blasted and reverberated, smashing through the earthen walls that held up the ground, and causing the ground to collapse as if a building had it's foundations violently torn out. Yaksha was slimy, so Mirja had no doubt he would manage to escape the cavein, but his plan had been kicked up shit creak without a paddle, and she was interested what he would do next, if he had a plan, or of his pride would get him turned into a Hollow Pancake....

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus
"The answer to that, it seems, is a resounding 'yes'!"
Yaksha's sense of humor seemed not diminished in the slightest by the fact that his caves had been smashed to pieces. He rested comfortably inside, hiding in an opening no bigger than a loaf of bread; luckily for him, his boneless physique was able to stay in such a form without much penalty. He could already hear the Troll beginning to sift through the ground, tearing up chunks in huge, sweeping handfuls; it took perhaps three or four seconds for it to examine each one before tossing them aside, to some place god only knew. That meant if it did find him, he'd have very nearly no time at all to plan before being slain.
No time at all by some people's standards, that is; in a fight, two or three seconds was more than long enough for Yaksha to do something incredible. For now, he simply inhaled slowly, allowing his body to turn ever so faintly incorpreal and misty; the relationship between spirit beings and material substances was always a matter of great contention. He began to move through the stone, with the same soft of ease one would use to wade through gelatin; there was no sign of his passing, but that counted for very little. He was quite careful to go down first, staying away from all sounds of cracking rock, until he finally rose from the ground, completely silently, head first...and took a huge, resounding nip out of one of the monster's heels.
Ye gods that skin was as hard as steel, if not harder. The Troll whirled on Yaksha, slamming an enormous fist down on the spot where it had felt the equivalent of a bee sting. Yaksha's head, luckily enough, had been prepared for just such an event; the fist smashed down on his head, smashing it to a pulp...but Yaksha's brain and mask had been safely stored in the stump of his neck.
Unluckily, he hadn't predicted just how prodigious this beast's strength was. The cracks spread outwards, revealing thin streamers of light from above. And where Yaksha could see light, Trolls could see Yaksha. He did his best to shuffle away from the light, into the cool darkness, but he could see the enormous, rheumy eye press against the ground. And then the Troll was tunnelling, with exceptional speed and talent, trying its best to capture him. It could shovel away rock far faster than Yaksha could move through it, giving him scant seconds to work out another plan before he was in its grasp.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf
Mirja watched and sighed softly as Yaksha tried his usual methods on it. She didn't expect differently, she punched things and hoped it worked out, which was why she had such a shit time with her first Troll. They were a shock, one did not expect something so strong, so powerful to exist and punch your face in. Which is exactly what happened to Yaksha as he tried to bite the creature's heel and got his face stoved in. Somehow surviving getting his face squished to mush - Mirja made a mental note of total obliteration if it came down to a fight - he was on the ropes.
Mirja didn't exactly want him to get killed by the Troll, but that was turning out to be the thing that was going to happen, so she released Beowulf's Shikai form, and flashed down, grabbing the Troll by the leg and launching him several feet back before vanishing again before he realized what was up, and sealing Beowulf. Dam thing was heavy, even with Beowulf's help, but she had grown, matured over the time since her first close encounter of the troll kind. She was stronger now. Much, stronger.
Unfortunately the same could not be said for Yaksha. He'd have a brief respite while the Troll recovered, but he would need to think fast, or swallow his pride, if he was going to get out of this one. Of course, that brief respite could be just what he needed to tuck tail and run. He had no obligation to stick around, after all. Aside from the labs of Caanan but he was a smart guy and could figure that out himself. At least, he pitched himself as a smart guy that could figure it out himself. Mirja had no idea wither it was true.

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus
Yaksha was doing his best to squeeze into the stone just behind him, moving ever so slowly, drifting backwards; all the same, the hand grew a bit closer with each shovelling scoop. Until out of nowhere, it...vanished, followed by a grunt of indignant surprise. Yaksha looked up for half a second, and saw it immediately; Mirja hovering in the air, watching. Yaksha reached up from underground, rising up out of the ground slowly, and crossed his arm.
"You're testing me, Mirja? Really? How old are you, again? Please tell me this is just a phase, because I can't find it in myself to continually work alongside someone so immature."
He inhaled slowly, his tail and head both regrowing slowly, with the sense of a stop-capture video, something stretched out over hours or days. By the time the Troll was standing and shaking itself off, Yaksha had fully reformed himself, and was standing in place, examining the creature critically, his hands folded over his chest.
"Are you by chance familiar with the square cube law, Mirja? It's not just a random question, I really do think it's something you're going to need to keep in mind next time."
Yaksha watched the Troll carefully, his expression curious, eyes alight with an odd light. He looked up at Mirja, seeming quite confident for a change. There was something in his face, some odd expression that seemed equal parts smug and scared. He cupped both hands around his mouth, slowly shuffling backwards and to the side, watching the Troll whip itself into a frenzy once more.
"I'm not entirely sure this will work, you know! The logic is sound, but I never claimed to be a physicist! If this doesn't work, I'll almost certainly be squashed to a paste, and with it, one of the few firsthand accounts of the Crucifixion! That would be a damn shame, you know. I won't ask you to put yourself into harm's way for me; that would be crude of me. But I will simply say that...I don't want to die. And I never claimed that I could defeat an enemy like this. I have my own way of handling problems, and it's worked up to now!"
Yaksha folded his hands over his chest, and slammed his tail into the ground once, twice. As he jabbed his finger towards the Troll, striking one of its leg, the monstrosity reached down with one hand, swiping it away. It was confused, aching, and very annoyed. It had needed more than long enough to deal with Mirja's sudden interference, and it was clearly trying to gauge whether it could reach her with a leap, before it was suddenly brought back to the ground by the hollow.
It charged directly towards Yaksha, crossing the ground between him and it at breakneck speeds; the kind of speeds that would've, in fact, quite literally broken Yaksha's neck. Even a flick at those speeds would've incapacitated him. He barely even had time to take his defensive stance as it shot between the two of them...and stumbled.
Its hand raked down, grazing Yaksha's head, sending him sprawling to the ground. Luckily for him, the Troll did the same, its own head snapping into the ground, and at a much more appreciable acceleration, if Yaksha was any judge. He could hear the sound of its jaw slamming into its skull before smashing itself into fragments, as he rolled over, staring up at the sky.
"Okay, slight miscalculation. I yield. It'll be crawling over here in about five seconds, and then I'm a goner. Finish this, Mirja. And then...well, I'm in your care. I don't think there was ever any question of that."
