Fate has a way of bumping into you [Private: Illiana]

America... Why the hell was he here again? Ah, that's right. Ladon was here because he had actually left Nemesis last moment quite some time ago and started to wander the Earth more; searching for something to help him. What may help him? Who the hell knows. He was literally lost. Sure he could get back to the Gotei and back to the Combat Squad. He knows he has been gone long enough that most probably think he is dead by now. Not only that, but, he hadn't left a Gigai since after he had left Nemesis. Why did he leave her last minute? Well, turns out whatever resolve he had wasn't real. Whether that was good or bad, he didn't know. So, he simply just returned to wandering and wandering. That wandering started in Europe and eventually lead him to America. Where he was, he could not say. But, he did know that he was in America; and that was good enough for him. After Ladon trudged onto the streets, he had his face buried in a scarf he had obtained somewhere along the road and was using it to keep his face loosely warm. It wasn't winter, but, Ladon had a habit of making some parts of his body too cold on accident. So, it probably looked weird for most people to be wearing the scarf.
Without a single word to anyone Ladon only continued to walk through the streets as his mind reflected on his past. A lot of his thoughts were on his fiance, the one who had killed him and then was murdered by a hollow. For some reason, some part of him thought she was still out there; given the Shinigami who performed Konso on him looked exactly like her. No matter how he searched no Shinigami had such an appearance. Eventually, he did give up and just became a Shinigami himself and then proceeded to train. Of course, he did end up going to the moon at one point and fought Nemesis. A demon who was much more powerful than he, yet, he only won because of the fact he was weak. Try to spin it as Nemesis being "kind" or something like that if you want; it was because he was weak. There was no other reason than that. Even if someone tried to convince Ladon otherwise, her would not believe them for a split second. She was a demon, not a kind overlord that goes "yeah sure". With a soft sigh, Ladon was lost in thought; almost completely.
Ladon was so lost in fact that he did not notice a girl that was walking right towards him. Just when he was about to run into her his eyes caught sight of her and he tried to avoid her by doing a quick side-step to the left. However, he wasn't fast enough as he ran into the girl; effectively knocking her over. As a reaction her moves inhumanly fast and catches the girl, holding her in his arms for a little bit. Before he could let her go, Gekido yells at Ladon "HOLY HELL FUCKING TALK TO HER". Ladon sighed and he moved away the scarf he had around the lower portion of his face and then talked to the girl; posing a simple question.
"Sorry about that... a-are you okay?"
He asked her this while the girl like lay in his arms. Of course, she could totally just spring out of his arms and run; leaving Ladon with a shrug and a groaning Gekido. It probably wouln't be too bad in the end. Hopefully some part of her won't like this girl. There's a reason why he's pushed so many people away. Regardless, both Ladon and the girl, known as Illiana, were in quite the situation. Where might it take them?

Illiana's mother had trained her in a lot of things just in case she wasn't around to be there for her one day. This included cooking, cleaning, managing money and generally keeping herself alive in an otherwise hostile world without having to rely on others or fighting to protect herself. As Illy was starting to discover she was very capable at most of these things but she failed at one major point - keeping things in order. She could keep herself going well enough but without the foresight of her mother's input Illy was forgetting to restock the fridge before it was fully empty, leaving her in a rather hungry predicament while she had to head off into the unfamiliar streets of the city in an effort to pick up something to eat.
Since her mother vanished she'd been keeping herself busy trying to figure out where the older woman had disappeared to, as well as following leads left to her about their reason of coming to this country in the first place, but all she'd been able to find out so far was a little limited and maybe even worrying. Worrying on an empty stomach was hard work and it made her even quieter than normal as she moved through the unseeing crowd, the people parting around her without a second through as they saw exactly what they expected to. Normally she'd focus a bit more to avoid the odd person who'd see her as something like a tree or bin or something but it was taking all her mental effort to ignore the grumbling of her stomach leaving her wide open for a collision with someone who saw others as nothing but objects. Or as the case was, someone equally as distracted that actually could see her.
The force of the collision as well as the speed of her apparent assailant didn't give the girl enough time to gasp softly in shock before she was being propped up awkwardly by the apparently young man who'd walked into her. Illiana half expected to be dropped without second thought so just stared awkwardly at the boy for a few moments and tried to catch her breath so she'd be ready to stand on her own when it happened. Instead she was offered words of apology, something she hadn't had happen in ages, and she froze up instantly, staring blankly at the man while trying to think of something to say and failing for several long awkward seconds. When she was finally able to swallow the lump in her throat and speak, instead of thanks she only had a question of her own.
"Wait, you can really see me?" she asked in amazement, a small hand reaching up to poke at the boy's face just to confirm he was actually solid, as though the arm holding her wasn't proof enough. "It's been ages since I met someone that could..."
As if suddenly realising the awkward position she was in for the first time, Illy practically jumped back from Ladon and stood a few feet away, brushing herself off awkwardly and straightening her clothing. She hadn't exactly been expecting to run into someone who could see her so she was wearing lazier leisure cloths instead of anything a normal person wore out and about, not to mention she hadn't even got around to brushing her hair that morning. This was hardly the best first impression she could make on someone.
"Yes, I'm fine." she finally forced out, "Not exactly how I expected today to start at all." she added, a laugh escaping her lips a moment later as she tried to brush off any sting the comment may have contained.

Ladon stared at Illiana, the girl he accidentally bumped into, and stared right into her eyes; noticing the fact that she had blue eyes. He may have stared too long because, for some reason, Ladon could feel his heart going a flutter; which he did ignore. Though, he could hear Gekido in the back of his mind "If you're actually falling in love make sure it isn't someone who kills you!" Ladon sighed at her words. While true, they were saddening to hear. But, there was always that one rumor he always heard that staring into the eyes of another can cause love. Well, hopefully that was not true because Ladon did not exactly need to fall in love again. Maybe some part of him wanted to, but, the rest of him was denying the idea. If anything, this girl will probably just become a friend. Well, maybe. He has no idea what turns his life may take. With a soft sigh he was able to answer the girl's question of whether he could see her or not.
"Well, considering the fact I just ran into you, caught you, and am currently staring into your eyes I would say that I can see you. Why do you ask? Can people not normally--"
Ladon's train of thought was suddenly broken when he felt her hand touch his cheek. The sensation had been one he really had not felt in years, so, his body literally had no idea how to react or what to do. Part of him wanted to grab the hand lightly and the other, more recent part of him, wanted him to just let go of this girl and walk away. Despite Ladon's past, even if it was gruesome, he can't just be some rude asshole who runs into a girl and doesn't help her. That's one thing he will never not do. He was actually even content to hold the girl in his arms a little longer; liking the heat of another next to him. It was kinda nice actually... but, it didn't last long as Illiana soon basically jumped out of his arms and was now standing a little bit away from him. He stood up straight and fixed his black hair before leaving the scarf, the one that he had on the lower half of his face, off and then walked to be a little closer to Illiana.
"Well, at least you're okay. Do you need anything? Oh, also, may I know your name?"
Gekido chuckled in his mind and teased him a little now, being kind of a little shit. "Oh-hoooooo! So the 'Ice Prince' Will be rude to nearly everyone else, but, when a cute girl comes into the picture you get all kind and respectful. You gonna tap dat?" inside his mind, Ladon just purely shut out Gekido for now, letting her yell at him all she wanted; he was not going to listen to her for a little bit after that comment. He shook his head and then smiled at Illiana.
"If you wish I can take you somewhere or accompany you to your destination. I may not be much, but, I can try to make sure you aren't harmed or bumped into again."
He was sincere, despite going a little against what he learned in the past Ladon did want to help this girl. For some reason, he got the impression from her that she wasn't just a regular human. He could obviously feel an abundance of reiatsu from her. Not only that, but, she seemed to be perplexed that he could see her; and she's clearly not a whole. So, Ladon decided to just find out and possibly get to know the girl. Hopefully this wouldn't blow up in his face.

Illiana gave a tight smile and bounced lightly on her heels, while it was true the collision hadn't caused her any stress there was still the issue of organising something to eat. The only thing stopping her from running past the spiritually aware stranger was the fact she didn't want to worry him or cause insult. After all, how would she feel if someone she was trying to apologies to for an accident ran off without another word?
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just in a bit of a-" Illy's 'rush' got cut off as her stomach decided to butt in, growling loudly for a few moments, letting Landon know just what was on her mind. The girl cleared her through loudly in an attempt to distract from it and continued. "Anyway. you can call me Ana, though you haven't exactly said who you are yet..."
For a few moments she stared curiously at the man, waiting for an answer before nodding to herself as though that made perfect sense. Illy wasn't too sure what she was expecting but considering he could see her she had half expected something curious and exotic. Regardless, she still had one more question for this new acquaintance before she'd let him follow her around, even for something as simple as grabbing food.
"If you don't mind me asking... are you human? There are a lot of demons around here so I'd rather just avoid trouble and... I don't mean to be rude if you are one either! It's just... geeze." The girl let off a hefty sigh for a moment and just looked up to Landon for a few moments not sure of what she was hoping for in an answer. In one way or another her mother had tried to instil a sense of distrust for all spiritual beings over the years, really only wanting Illiana to trust her, but in a situation as desperate as she found herself it might be worthwhile turning her back on such ideas. At least if they weren't evil.
"Well, I guess going down to the shops isn't exactly a big undertaking and I wouldn't really mind the company. You sure this isn't beneath you?" she asked, not unkindly.
Illiana stepped to the side to move around the young man so she could keep walking, not wanting to dally any longer but walking slow enough that he could catch up if he did follow. She hadn't been joking about going to the shops either. Before heading out Illy had pulled up a few maps so she could at least know where she was going, if not what she'd bump into on the way. Being in a rush however the pace would soon increase, giving them only a short amount of time to chat before they would arrive at a supermarket and the restocking could begin.

Ladon watched Illiana as she spoke and he couldn't help it when a grin crept onto his face from the loud gurgle that came from Illiana's stomach. He couldn't help but chuckle softly at what happened and he smiled at the girl for a moment; letting his arms fall to his sides from their crossed position. He chuckled a little bit more and then did a tiny bow towards Illiana.
"I'm Ladon, nice to meet you Ana."
He straightened slowly and then moved his right arm a little and an audible pop, as well as an 'ow' from Ladon, could be heard. He winced and then rubbed his arm a little before redirecting his attention back to Illiana. He shrugged at Illiana's second question and then sighed softly. Whether or not she may get a little peeved at him for not being a demon, he did have to say what he was since she was asking about it. Though, he could hear Gekido again "Tap dat, tap dat; get all up in that p--" "SHUT UP GEKIDO" With a sigh, again, Ladon spoke to Illiana.
"Ah, no. I am not a demon... I'm a Shinigami... I dunno how you feel about them, but, I can't say I'm exactly the 'best' Shinigami, since I kinda abandoned my post... lord if I return I don't really wanna know what may happen..."
Ladon sighed softly and then watched as Illiana spoke again and then stepped around him. She was clearly about to leave, but, Ladon decided to follow. He chuckled at her question though. It was hard to find that helping a cute girl out with something would be below one. But, it can happen. He, however, was not like such. Enough wandering and thinking about his past have gotten him to think about this shit to change how he acts some. But, no time for reminiscing. He smiled at Illiana as he followed her.
"Nah. It's not below me. Besides, I might as well treat you to lunch; especially after nearly knocking you over like I did. Still, I am sorry for that..."
Ladon smiled and did hope that Gekido was just teasing him and not somehow predicting the future. Because, things would be kinda weeeird if that happened. Gekido, she better fricking behave herself...

It was pretty hard for Illiana to avoid a smile when Landon fell in step with her, after hearing the world Shinigami she'd half expected him to up and disappear within seconds. The main issue her mother had told her about the so called benign gods of the dead, or whatever the called themselves, was that they tended to just do their own thing and leave everyone else to deal with their mistakes. She didn't know exactly how true that was but the way her mother said it gave her a sense that it was more a personal issue she had with the spirits than anything else. Though in Illy's experience they didn't exactly interact with people without a very good reason, and usually to send them packing when a large battle was about to take place nearby.
"You're out here in this world, which is more than I can say for most. Mum always used to complain that you'd only turn up for your own issues and nothing else, the souls that needed help along or enemies you created yourselves. Always hiding away, never willing to lend a hand with the small issues." As the two walked Illiana cast a glance Landon's way for a moment and blushed lightly. "I'm not trying to be rude sorry, it's just what she said. Small fry like us never attract enough attention to be worthy of saving, even you didn't notice me at first now that I think about it."
Illy fell quite for a bit at that, she wasn't normally one to talk in such a burst like that, the strangeness was probably best attributed to the fact that she hadn't had anyone to really talk to since her mother disappeared. Even a quiet person like her would eventually crave human interaction.
"Lunch sounds pretty good, maybe we could do that first? I could eat a horse right now. Though I only looked up supermarkets before coming out, I really don't know where we could go to eat."
Not wanting to stop and cause a foot-traffic jam Illiana looked about as they walked for a place she they could step off and stop at for a moment so she could pull her phone out and check details on the local area. Her height worked against her for a few moments and she had to get up on her tippy toes before she spied a bench off to one side that was perfect for such a thing. Nudging Landon with her arm lightly Illy gestured towards the seat and changed her course, leading the Shinigami to a stop and flopping lightly down on the bench while pulling her phone free and bringing up a search engine.
"What kind of food are you in the mood for? I'll eat just about anything at this point so you can choose, or I'll just find the nearest place if that's easier? There's a few fast food chains nearby, hmm."
At this point Illy was half paying attention to Landon while tapping through her phone, trying to find what was available. It was probably the most ordinary she'd seemed the entire time he'd seen her, though there was no way for him to know just how strange it was for her to actually have a phone line this. Normally she didn't have any reason to carry around such a device as there was no one she needed to call, but her need to know where things were eventually brought about the purchase and she was starting to wonder why she hadn't picked one up sooner.

Ladon walked beside Iliana, keeping pace with her and also having his hands in his pockets. If he wasn't in his gigai, his sword would probably be out on his side; showing it's abnormality. Yes, it does not look like most Shinigami's sealed Zanpakutō. In truth, it looked more like an ancient blade than anything else; an old demon slaying blade. Which it wasn't of course, but, the appearance gave it that vibe. Of course, Iliana wouldn't realize this or know so until Ladon either left his gigai or simply brought his Zanpakutō out while in his gigai; which he could do. Though, he would hope he wouldn't have to use it at this time. If he can help it at least. Ladon sighed softly at Iliana's statements and scratched the back of his head.
"I can't say that isn't exactly true, your statement. But, I do know that some Shinigami do come here just because. It is true though that many Shinigami don't come to the world of the living to just hang out with people. And Shinigami send people, um, 'packing' for their safety. Regardless of whatever reputation we may have, Shinigami do care for the people of the earth."
He did notice her small blush when she stole a glance at him and apologized for her words. Ladon simply gave her a small smile; a way to say it's okay. Though, hearing the statement that he didn't notice her made him wince.
"Ah... no, I did, at the last minute. That's exactly why I caught you and apologized... I was just a little lost in my mind... and all beings are worth saving in my mind..."
He sighed softly and walked with Iliana as she continued to walk, falling quite silent as well. However, she soon broke her silence to talk to Ladon. He looked at her and nodded softly. Lunch would be nice after all. While Ladon may not be the most hungry person in the world, it'd still be nice to get a bite to eat. He heard his own stomach rumble softly and Ladon gave a soft chuckle as he followed Illiana.
Ladon nodded at her question of whether they could do lunch first or not. Lunch did sounds great to Ladon right now, so, he followed Illiana and then pondered about what he was in the mood for; food wise. He shook his head and shrugged, unable to decide. He simply smiled at Illiana and spoke to her.
"You choose, I'm not entirely sure what I feel like eating now, so, go ahead and choose whatever."
He smiled and then looked forwards. Hopefully, nothing would go wrong. Hopefully.

Illiana couldn't help but give a dry chuckle at Ladon. The way the shinigami spluttered with his words as he tried to clarify to her what exactly had happened made him seem like the young man he appeared, a refreshing thought for the few moments she had it. The young woman was so used to how other people reacted to her existence when they did notice her that she recognised an excuse when she heard it. It made sense, him not wanting to hurt her feelings or seem rude, but the fact of the matter was she was hard for practically anyone to notice, so it wasn't exactly his fault.
"Let's face it." she said with a grin, "If we hadn't actually collided you wouldn't have given me another thought. I'm unremarkable, I blend in well, and even though you're strong enough to see through whatever illusion I cast into other people's minds, even now a part of you is seeing exactly what it expects when it looks my way. It's just how I am."
"Besides," she added as she jumped from the chair to her feet, "I wasn't exactly going to notice you, I'm oblivious when I'm hungry!"
With that Illy stepped out into the foot traffic again, hoping that Ladon would not be far behind. She'd pulled a place up on her phone and held it out for him to see, it was a simple burger place, not a massive chain or anything, with a wide variety and several good reviews. Like everything in America they looked massive, Illiana's mouth was already watering at the thought.
"I hope you don't mind burgers, most of the other places looked like trash." she offered, ready to apologise if it wasn't to the man's taste. "And I'm sorry about badmouthing the Shinigami. It's just, after hanging around here for a bit, sure life goes on but no one is really free. It was much the same back where I grew up, only I was on the move with my sister instead of holed up in one of these 'protective' cities. I don't know how all of this happened or what was going on for your kind when it came to pass, but it's not like anyone seems to be doing anything about it. Shinigami, human or otherwise"
Illy turned her head slightly and cast a sidelong look at Landon thoughtfully for a moment. It was possible that he was here, at this very moment, trying to do exactly that and she'd just talked crap about him in the middle of an important mission but the girl was admittedly sceptical. She hadn't seen anyone do anything beyond what her mother usually did when it came to protecting others, though there were some rather destructive exceptions to that rule that she could partially remember. Things like that didn't help anyone though, just made everything worse.
"If you don't mind me prying, what are you doing in this demon infested country anyway? It's like one of their strongholds now and it can't be safe for your kind. Heck, it's probably not safe for me now that I think about it, though I think I might have someone looking out for me on that front."
Illiana trailed off awkwardly at that and snapped her attention back to walking just in time to redirect them both around a corner so they wouldn't miss the burger joint. "It should be just up ahead." she squeaked out, partially trying to change the conversation, partially to point out the building they were coming up on.
