Mirja, The Mad Wolf

Mirja had surprising difficulty finding somewhere to set up in Karakura. She had thought they would love her, but apparently not. As she couldn't get an opening anywhere she tried, they all turned away the wolf girl without even hearing her. Maybe it was because she was a scruffy looking girl with a tail, but that was just so unfriendly. Eventually, however, she managed to get a spot in a pub, not exactly the best place she wanted, but a place none the less, and so she set up, the large piano taking up a considerable length of the floor space before she was ready to begin.

Lifting the lid, she stroked the keys fondly, and smiled. Playing the Piano was originally just something that she started as an attempt to learn to be soft, and subtle, but it grew for her. Into a passion. She wasn't amazing at it, but she liked to think she was pretty decent. Everything was set up, and prepared, it just wanted for her to press the first key, which she did after a few moments of reflection to decide what she was going to place first. She thought of her piece, and then began.

It was basic, not terribly difficult to play, which was good for her, since some lyrics went alongside it and if it was to difficult she couldn't work both of them.
"There must be some kind of way out of here, said the joker to the thief. There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief" she started, a soft voice, one that accented the beauty of the piano she was playing. Hopefully she'd draw in someone who really liked pianos and then she could get a fan, but until that time, she was just going to play for herself.

THE QUINCY PRODIGY

Artist: N/A - Song: N/A

Once again, the streets of the city exuded a familiar but rather distasteful feeling. Karakura was one of the few safe havens for humanity and other benign beings alike. Still, it stood as the remainder of the unfortunate and sad reality beyond the city. Enslaved, without power, devoid of many of the most basic rights. Under the leadership of darker beings throughout the world, the human race was surrendered to nothing more than pitiful excuses. Whatever chance or anomaly existed was quickly shut down by forces that were greater in number and in power. That’s where the Quincy came in with their ideals. Unfortunately, some of the more recent encounters had left the prodigy with more than a few ideas to mull over.

”That one over there? Thank you.”

Waving off and giving a thankful nod to the lady that gave her directions, Sofia headed towards a small pub. She needed some time to relax among people that didn’t know her too well. Frankly, because of the setting, and the kind of people that likely visited the establishment, she was not bound to meet anyone that frequented the social events she played at. There was enough people inside to seem cozy, the sounds of the piano were not too bad either. And surely they had at least a decent alcohol in stock.

Upon walking in, several eyes were drawn towards her, either due to the white of her clothing, or due to the tantalizing figure that was hugged so closely by the garments she wore. Most of the eyes would drift elsewhere however, made heavy by inebriation and reasons beyond her care. Oddly enough, the lady playing the piano seemed familiar, as though the Quincy had met her at some point. She had to admit that, though not professional by any extent, her skill with the piano was not bad at all.

”Rum and coke please.”

Taking a seat by the bar, she had a clear view of most people around her, and the lady playing the piano as well. It didn’t take long for her drink to arrive, but if the past and the situation were any indication, she would likely have several thereafter.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf

Mirja finished her song before looking out, and seeing the girl she had met and invariably fled from. That was awkward, having her here, but at the same time, she wasn't going to lose again. So she struck first. Cracking her fingers, she started off on another song. These covers not exactly designed for piano were hard for her, but she was not going to admit defeat, and supplemented her skill with pure GUTS!
"Pretty woman, walking down the street, pretty woman, kind I'd like to meet" she began, looking over at Sofia to make sure she knew exactly who this song was for.

The piano was a hard start but eventually flowed as she got into the rhythm of the song. Like a fight, all songs had their own rhythm, she just had to stop and think for a second before seeing it.
"I don't believe you, you're not the truth. No one could look as good as you" sung for someone, it was a pretty flirtatious song. But that was exactly what Mirja was going for. From the sounds of her order, however, she was here alone, and not here to socialize. That was not an elegant girl's drink.

After meeting Nilfhiem and the rest of the city denizens, she had expected, whiskey, or scotch. Or, hell, even wine, but nope. Rum and coke. That was a call for help if ever she heard one. So keeping her attention and force of presence on Sofia, she continued, adding a directed tone to her voice so there could be no misunderstanding about her intentions with the song. If she finished and Sofia reacted positively, Mirja would probably go over and drink with her, but that was for later. For now, she had a song to play, and pride would now all anything better than the best she could do.

THE QUINCY PRODIGY

The tune had changed all of a sudden as had the song being played. It didn’t take more than a second, perhaps two for the Quincy to notice what it was. She remembered it being the theme song of a movie she had watched a long time ago from a very old recording. It was a pretty song nonetheless. When her eyes met whom she thought or remembered to be called Mirja, the musical prodigy would simply raise her drink in one hand to acknowledge her awareness of her. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that she was troubled and confused with the thoughts in her mind, but Sofia didn’t really seem to notice the song or the look as having been flirtatious in the slightest. Quite the contrary, she simply imagined the song was meant as a comical jab to greet her. After all, she remembered having received a compliment last time they met or so she remembered.

Beyond that, it wasn’t unlike musicians to portray several emotions in a variety of convoluted layers depending on the melody they employed. Sofia was able to craft tunes that abounded with joy, lust, flirtatiousness, humor, or sadness depending on the atmosphere she wanted to project. Taking a long swish from her drink, she seemed to nearly empty the glass in one go. While she was rarely seen drinking, the sight seemed to indicate it wasn’t the first time she had done so.

”Just leave the bottle. Gracias.”

Filling the glass with rum almost to the brim, she would carefully add in enough coke to almost overflow the glass, but not quite. With her finger, she would stir the contents slowly to avoid making a mess, but sufficiently well to mix both ingredients near perfectly. During her first years out and about, the Quincy happened to enjoy the company of alcohol a bit more than she cared to admit. And while lately she did her best to avoid it at all costs, she still retained the high enough tolerance that allowed her to drink, however rare, while prolonging her sobering state.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf

It seemed she didn't quite get the point across, with her piano song not getting through to Sofia. Maybe she was too drunk already? The girl was certainly making her drinks a lot more rum than coke. And she thought all the Quincy really knew what they were doing, what with the child shooting her in the back and all. Did she miss the brain-washing session for this week? And dam. 'Leave the bottle' was code for some serious problems in the ol' mental farmstead. Finishing her song with a bit less luster than she had began, since Sofia wasn't quite picking up, she dropped the lid softly and stood up slowly, gauging the distance between her and Sofia, and then crossing it in the blink of an eye.

"Well, that's kind of a depressing drink to be having. It screams 'get drunk as fast as I can'. So, you opposed to someone joining you, my dear?" She asked, taking a seat anyway and ordering one of the more erotically named cocktails 'Sex on the Beach'. "You look like you've been slapped in the face with a wet fish. That's, not the case, right?" She asked, it was a serious question, as her tail swished behind her. She had seen the look on her face in the mirror every day, and so was sort of worried, now.

Though not quite dozing off, her stare was blankly off into empty space. She had a lot of things to think about, yet she thought of none of them at the present time. Instead, she seemed to find comfort and solace in the empty headed but conscious behavior she maintained.

”Estoy bien. It's just rum and coke.”

Perhaps it was out of drinking, or just a bit of distraction on her part, but she hadn’t even noticed she had said part of her words in Spanish. Frankly she didn’t even know if Mirja knew the language, but she would make no comment about it nonetheless unless urged to. She was correct however. Rum just happened to be what she enjoyed most. She wasn’t such an avid and frequent drinker where she cared to try different kinds of drinks. She simply liked rum more than most other drinks, and preferred. If she wanted to be drunk, she would have had it on the rocks.

“No?” she said almost as if shocked about the question. “This is my normal face.”

A quick smile would grace her expression as a means to show she was alright. While there were indeed troubling questions in her mind, she didn’t really allow herself to display a behavior that was different than her usual one. She would have likely seemed as she always did, save for the accompanying glass of alcohol. Still, she had to admit it was odd to see the shy girl among so many people. Difficult to believe the woman that had rushed off after saying hello was the same individual that was so eager to approach and talk to her now all of a sudden. She didn’t mind nonetheless.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf

"Spanish was never my forte but I am guessing that is something bad. Either way, drinking Rum and Coke alone...? It's a cry for help if I have ever seen one" she quipped, taking her cocktail and downing it in a second. Her natural body meant that she could drain a keg to the dregs and only be tipsy. Probably hold up the keg to boot. Looking to Sofia, she didn't seem to be the musical girl she was when they first met. As if she was worrying about something, or trying to decide about something he wasn't sure about.

"No it's not. I saw you earlier, you have a beautiful smile when you put it on" She said, before the girl did indeed smile. "There we go. Nothing quite like a girl's bright smile. Maybe I am just being oversensitive, but you seem off your stride" She said, looking around to make sure none of Caanan's cronies were around before glancing back to Sofia. "But, if you don't want to talk about that then we can talk about something else. You are a Quincy, right? Been to your city. It was...not a warm welcome, despite bringing cake" she ordered another drink, and downed that, sighing softly. Maybe she was too sensitive.

"Its not that, its simply the drink I prefer, worried or not."

Perhaps it was wrong to drink Rum to some or so she thought. She had never been one for beer or wine. Though they were highly sought after and enjoyed by a number of people, the taste was never something she could ever admit to enjoying. Even tougher, more renowned drinks like Vodka or Tequila never did elicit any feelings within her that ignited any sort of want, like or admiration for the taste. To be honest, there wasn't any drink she could truly call 'good.' Rum was simply the closest she had ever gotten to something she could enjoy. And she had to admit that, though her tolerance was high and the situations of inebriation rare, she very much enjoyed the fleeting feeling of being devoid of duties, of reason, and of anything at all beyond the feeling she got of being completely smashed.

"Not a good day is all. We all have those."

Her words were not meant to be taken in an ill manner. She was simply not ready to talk about her problems to a complete stranger. She had seen her for a minute, if that, before the stranger left in a hurry for some reason or another. The two were still pretty much foreign to each other. She did say something that made her raise a brow however. She was aware of her Quincy powers though that wasn't as unexpected. Neither was the fact that she possessed some fair amount of skill and power as had been evidently noted in their previous encounter. More important was the fact that she had been to the City of Light, and therefore, to some extent had been acquainted with Nilfheim.

"Whatever happened to cause that?"

After all, being in charge of the branch that enforced the law, if there was unruly behavior within the city she needed to know about it. Quincy or anyone otherwise found breaking the law to any extent would be punishable to the full extent that their offense deemed acceptable.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf

Mirja would admit she was drink bias. Rum and coke just struck her as the anti-existence drink, the one for when you wanted nothing to do with reality for a couple of hours. But she just preferred it, which made Mirja want to branch out her drinking habits so she was more fun to drink with. Especially when she claimed it was not a good day.
"Instead of sitting at a bar like this, do you wanna come to my place? I could cook you something to eat, make you some Mjord, and we could sit about talking, whatever people talk about" she offered, downing her drink and looking like she was going to go home regardless. Either the girl came with her, or she was not interested in having a drinking partner or talking about what was troubling her. Even Mirja could get that much when it was beaten over her head like a frozen turkey.

But, then she was stopped by the question of what happened with her cake. It was quite the shit tale, to be honest.
"Ahh, that's a tale. See, I met Nifilhiem a few times, and while they were not extensive meetings, I was interested in getting to know her more. She was pretty obviously a Quincy so I went to the Quincy city to see if I could find her. Wandered around a bit to catch Nilfhiem's scent, but then it turns out that everyone there hated me because I'm a Shinigami, and I got shot in the back by a little kid. He pissed his pants, everyone reacted on the wrong side of sanity, and shit got a little real. But, the city is still in one piece, and I am still alive, so I consider it a worthwhile event. At least I am prepared for anymore sudden and unexpected hatred by small quincy children"

If Sofia thought the girl before her was odd before, the words she spoke simply pushed the thresholds of it even further.

”Thanks. Thank you but I’m fine here.”

That was the nicest way she could think of responding to her. Though rare for those that knew of her power, Sofia was usually hit up by random guys whenever she did go out. She was used to the silly flirts, the invitations to go home or somewhere else more private. While she had no reason to believe Mirja had anything dark or malicious in mind, she still couldn’t accept. Even if she was a much easier to talk to individual, she still liked to believe there was no conceivable way she would accept.

For starters, she didn’t even know the girl. She had seen her once before, and only for a couple of minutes. Regardless of niceness, she was not about to go to a stranger’s home just because. It was a definite no. She seemed to get up, eager and fully believing the Quincy would follow. It was a good thing she had stopped to respond to her question, otherwise the girl would have unfortunately left on her own.

”That… doesn’t really make sense or sound accurate. I’ll have to look more into it when I’m back.”

Niflheim was old enough where it wasn’t rare for the girl to meet her. But that she had gone to the city of light, that she had been attacked for being a Shinigami, and the story about the kid; nothing made a lot of sense. Frankly while none of them had any love for the Shinigami, the law dictated well enough the consequences of mindless blind violence for the sake of it. Regardless, whenever she got back, she would speak with the Elect and find out details about the situation that made sense.
