Artist: Mogeko Castle - Song: MaouDamashii Town 10 - Word Count:
Kamui was not ready for that. Well, not some of it at least. He fully expected the playful ribbing toward Sagumi. Despite what he was, he by nature chose not to involve himself in much of the ordeals of the world, even when those ordeals belonged to the pathetic species he claimed so to love. He excelled at being an absentee father at the very least which he supposed could further be added to the list of flaws that Kamui's old man got to hold close to his chest. As she laughed at him, a small smile crept on to Kamui's face, but he said nothing in return, he wasn't sure what more he could really say on the matter and he could tell by the fluctuating look on her face that Rose did not quite know what on Earth or otherwise that Kamui was on about with the sudden addition of his family in to the equation and it would seem that Kamui was not the only one who was suffering from unresolved familial issues. Kamui's eyes shifted over to hers with a glint of that playfulness flying across his features as her tongue protruded past her lips, dangerously letting her know just what he wanted to do with that tongue.
Though, what came next was Kamui's turn to be surprised and confused. Her immediate reaction was expected. Rose immediately started to grapple with the ramifications of Kamui's words, he expected that response. What Kamui was asking was not easy for someone like Rose and while she did care for him, he knew that, and wanted to honor his wishes, he expected being a silent onlooker was not really her style. Her confusion then the blush that followed when she pieced together what she was feeling was also expected and calculated and the blush, while cute, was also calculated. Almost every change in disposition and reaction had been measured and weighed by Kamui's analytical mind...or at least he thought they were. The response that came from her lips was most definitely not one Kamui was expecting. He expected Rose to argue, to fight with him, to tell him that she'd be able to handle whatever happened because she was a strong, independent, pink haired woman who feared no apocalypse. The alternative extreme was also a considered possibility, though not one Kamui expected, in that she accepted that Kamui's machinations were absolutely terrifying and she didn't want anything to do with them and that she would stay out of the way. What Kamui was certainly not expecting...was compromise. His mouth gaped slightly as she spilled out her answer, that she would do as he asked so long as it did not impact her family. She was a high ranking member of Shadowfall...being able to ignore what would inevitably a slight against that organization seemed difficult to accept for Kamui, but at the same time he did not really feel like she was lying to him about her intentions. As long as the Princes designs did not target her or her family, she had no interest in standing against him.
Kamui's eyes shifted to the side as she finished. Kamui did not know enough about Shadowfall it would seem. He did not know whom Rose considered family. At the outset he would have assumed she considered the organization itself as a surrogate family but she rather directly let it be known that she didn't especially care a whole hell of a lot if the Organization at large burned to the ground around her, so that could not be who she was referring to. Who was she talking about and should he bother asking? Even if he knew, there was no amount of conscious effort in this world that could assure whoever she considered family wouldn't come under fire. It simply wasn't possible. Before he could solve his quandary, Kamui felt arms wrap around him as Rose had closed the distance between them and embraced him in a hug. Kamui gazed down upon her for a moment, perplexed, but his expression softened rather quickly as he reciprocated, encircling his arms around her in his embrace and pulling her closer to his chest.
He followed her lead for a few moments, not saying a word as he just held her warm, soft body against his chest. It was a calming moment, the kind of experience Kamui had, genuinely, never experienced before. For the most part, his interactions with women were a far cry from this. They were there for far more...physical pursuits than emotional comfort and Kamui was not entirely sure how to feel about genuine affectionate and emotional connections and even less as to how to act in such situations. So for a while, he didn't act, he just enjoyed the feeling of her in his arms and the sense of warmth and security that came with that. Kamui leaned back after a moment that seemed to last an eternity yet simultaneously feel far too short before bringing his hand to Rose's cheek to brush locks of that stunning pink hair from her face. He inched his face closer their lips almost brushing against each other, but hesitated from finalizing that contact. He did not push her, not after what happened earlier, and he would patiently wait. He left the choice with her for now.
