Mayonaka loves to help people. Although his main weapon is darkness, his heart is good, and he is not a bad person. If anybody ever asked for help, Mayonaka would gladly help them, if he is not extremely busy. Unless first spoken to, Mayonaka will usually stay pretty quiet. That's not to say that he never says anything, for he will get his say in things from time to time. He definitely would never be the annoying one that never shuts up though.

There arose in Mayonaka a great desire for power. Although not extremely strong within him, it is definitely there, making him want more power than he currently has. Kūgeki knew about this desire for power, and used it to Mayonaka's advantage, making him work twice as hard for his skills, but in the end obtaining twice the power. Because of being made to work so hard for his abilities by Kūgeki, Mayonaka has become a very hard worker. He has the strength and determination to get the job done.

In a fight, Mayonaka is not an upfront face to face fighter for the most part. As his Shikai deals with shadow, hiding oneself, and teleportation between points, Mayonaka deals more with quick, out of the blue kills when using his Shikai. When using just sealed state, Mayonaka uses his speed with his swordsmanship, or uses Kidô to win the fight. Unless the main objective is to extend the fight as long as possible, or he is trying to not kill the opponent, Mayonaka will go for a quick kill.

Shōkyo - Erasure

If he so chooses to, Mayonaka has the ability to completely erase himself in shadow. He does not produce scent, sound, or an image, and his rieatsu is kept as low as possible. If he uses it, however, it will flare up, alerting the opponent of his location. While in shadow, Mayonaka is able to dissolve his body into shadow particles, capable of defending him from many attacks. In order to attack, however, Mayonaka must leave the shadows, but he can quickly dissolve himself once more. A passive ability while in this state is known as Sentaku, which allows for him to choose what parts of the shadow he is touching (IE, he is capable of floating in the shadow by choosing to touch a certain part of it in the air). This ability is basically the equivalent of Mayuri's goo, and Rachel's bloodmist form.

Akuma no yōna kage mirā - Demonic Shadow Mirrors

This is Mayonaka's most powerful technique. After activation, Mayonaka is capable of creating 10 doorways (3 feet across, 6 feet long) that have several mini-abilities themselves. Although they are incapable of moving, they appear around Mayonaka (and possibly his opponent) in a very decent radius. The first doorway appears on the ground, under Mayonaka. The second appears above him in the air horizontally. The other 8 appear on all sides of him, with a 12 foot radius from the center. They are all equal distance apart. The first ability of the shadow doors are exactly what you think they would be. He is capable of using them as portals to the other shadow doors. This allows him to basically have full command of the area within. These doorways are accessible by other people, but only with Mayonaka's discretion. Mayonaka can also choose what doorways lead to the other doorways. These can be interchanged. A very basic strategy of his is allowing the opponent to enter it partially, and then turning the doorway 'off', lynching the opponent, and basically using the doorway as a guillotine.

Nui - Stitching

This is Mayonaka's weakest ability. By applying a shadow to his wound, he is capable of stopping the bleeding and increasing his rate of regeneration (basically; insta-scabbing). For internal wounds or wounds too severe, this technique does nothing.

History/Background:

Mayonaka was a quiet man in his time living in Rukongai. He lived in the 30th district of East Rukongai, where it was relatively peaceful and there weren't that many disturbances. Although Mayonaka was quiet, he would help anybody if they asked him for help. He did his best to always help anybody in need of aid, but other than that he was relatively quiet.

It wasn't very long before Mayonaka learned of the Shinigami. They seemed nice for the most part, and help citizens of Rukongai, something that earned his respect. He learned that the Shinigami were the protectors of the land, and that they also protected the still living from Hollows and other such malevolent spirits. Mayonaka watched the Shinigami as they helped the people of Rukongai, and decided that he would become one of them. He enjoyed helping people, and as he was now, he could not do much. If he became a Shinigami, however, he could do more, help more people.

After chatting with one of the Shinigami that made his way to Rukongai every so often, sometime in his third year of living in Rukongai, Mayonaka learned of what it meant to be a Shinigami and how to become one. One first had to enter the Spiritual Arts Academy, otherwise known as the Shinigami Academy. In the Academy, The program was six years, with the very rare possibility of graduating in less time, should you be exceptionally gifted. Mayonaka asked the Shinigami if he could be brought to the Academy, and upon passing the entrance exam, started his courses in the following year. Mayonake did well in the four major Shinigami combat forms, with his worst mark being in Hakuda, and his best mark being in Hohō. That's not to say that he wasn't any good at Kidō or Zanjutsu, he was a formidable swordsman and user of the Demon Arts. Mayonaka graduated with Class #1 in his sixth year.

After graduating from the Academy, Mayonaka was accepted into squad 5 of the Gotei 13, although not a seated member. If he ever wanted to help anybody, he would need to be stronger, and he knew it. So he trained. With seated members of his squad, he trained in the use of Kidō, and the use of a combination of Hohō and Zanjutsu. Hakuda was never a strong point for Mayonaka, so rather than waste time training profoundly in it, he chose to develop a specialty in the thing he was great in: Hohō. And if he was going to be in the squad focusing in Kidō, then he'd better be good at Kidō. Kidō wasn't the best thing to rely upon though, in Mayonaka's eyes, so he trained in Hakuda. Mayonaka acceled greatly in Hadō, so he foccussed more on it than on the other things he was training. Mayonaka trained like this for several years, meditating quite often with his Zanpactō as well.

Almost everyday, Mayonaka meditated with his Zanpactō, the thing that gave him the power he needed to be great. After some years of this meditation, Mayonaka was graced with seeing the Inner World of his Zanpactō, as well as his Zanpactō spirit, Kūgeki. It suited him well, the Inner world of his Zanpactō. It was a dark realm, made up of shadow. Even Zanpactō spirit, Kūgeki, was a being made up of shadow. Being a person preferring the night, this pleased Mayonaka. His delight with the night and the dark was so much that he called himself after it: Mayonaka(Midnight). Training in private over the next couple of months, Mayonaka gained control over the new abilities that he had gained from these sessions of meditation. He had gained Shikai, something that was a great delight to him. He was on his way to gaining power. Although he only had his first ability with Shikai at this point, Shōkyo, it was a breakthrough for him, he would accelerate fast from this point. Now he just had to hone his new found skills. Training quite profusely for the next couple of months, Mayonaka gained some control over his skills, to the point where he was deemed fit to accept missions in the Human World, fighting small time hollows.

Mayonaka trained hard in the Human World, doing quite well on the missions he was assigned. He became quite well at controlling his Shikai, as well as gaining experience with actual fighting, with the presence of actual danger. He learned when it wa appropriate to use certain skills, what worked and what didn't, and he learned the more effective ways to use certain skills. All the while, he still meditated with his Zanpactō as often as he could, trying to meditate at the end of every day. Eventually, he gained a new ability, his most powerful ability: Akuma no yōna kage mirā. A great ability, Mayonaka used it in his next fight, a fight that he won most greatly. Training profoundly with this ability, Mayonaka became quite good at using it in the most efficient way he could.

Every now and then, Mayonaka would find himself with a wound from a fight, for which he would have to end the fight as quickly as possible, sometimes not winning the fight but having to retreat, and wait until he was healed to go back and finish what was started. His third Shikai ability was gained during one session of meditation with his Zanpactō spirit Kūgeki: Nui. This was his least powerful technique that he had, although it was of unimaginable aid to him. It was the ability to temporarily stop the bleeding of a wound and provide a quick fix so as to stay and fight, to finish a fight with victory quicker.

It had been almost one hundred years since Mayonaka had become a Shinigami. By this point, although some people were known to have achieved a Bankai, Mayonaka had only a Shikai. Kūgeki knew that Mayonaka desired power, and so he helped him achive power. By doing nothing. In order to achieve a new ability from him, Mayonaka had to work twice as hard, as Kūgeki did not help him, and made him work exceptionally hard. It took him much longer to learn the abilities of his Shikai. And although it took him so much longer to learn the abilities of his Shikai, his abilities were so much stronger. Mayonaka found himself climbing the ranks in his squad, eventually getting to a quite high seat, and all the while he continues to meditate everyday, or almost everyday.

Over the next couple of hundred of years, Mayonaka trained profusely. He became a specialist within his squad at Hadō, mastered his Shikai completely, had very nice skill in the Demon Arts and Zanjutsu, and it was only a matter of time before he achieved an even greater level of power: Bankai. Five hundred years had gone by, he was Vice Captain of Squad 5, and was a force to be reckoned with. By this time he was surprised that he didn't know Bankai yet, although it was only a matter of time, and as soon as he could achieve that level of power, he knew that he would be able to train himself to the power of a captain, and become captain of Squad 5.

Roleplay Sample:

Kite was only nine years old when the war started. He didn't much
understand why it had started, but it had started nonetheless. America
was at war with Russia, and there were many threats of the use of
nuclear bombs. People were slightly frightened by this, but still
continued their everyday lives like normal. It was just another article
in the newspaper to them. Until the day that every channel was the same,
broadcasting that a missile was en route to Canada, telling people to
say good bye to their loved ones, telling them that this would be the
last day on Earth for them.

Kite was only nine years old when the
missile had been fired. He had always been a dark person, and hated the
world. To know that it was all going to blow up amused him. He liked
the idea that it would all be destroyed. In his mind, nobody had earned
the right to live anyway. Life is a privilege, and easily taken away.
Most people do not realize this, and take life for granted, thinking
that they are indestructible. When the bomb is dropped, those who
realize that life is a privilege will accept their demise, and will not
try to stop or deny it, whereas those who think they are indestructible
will get a rude awakening as they are destroyed.

The destruction
of the world is our own fault. Why do we wage wars on ourselves? And why
do we make such destructive weapons if we do not plan to use them? If a
weapon has the ability to destroy an entire continent, it should not be
created unless you plan to destroy a continent. And accept the
aftermath of such a deed. The retaliations: bomb after bomb being sent
at country after country, continent after continent. Eventually, the
entire world would be engulfed in war, and destroyed.

Kite was
sitting on the balcony of his apartment, watching Toronto as it was
coming to an end. He could see the missile's impact in his mind, could
picture what it looked like, and imagined what it looked like when it
first hit the ground. All the terrified people around it as it tore
through the air, as it hit the ground, and as it exploded; every single
one of them instantly obliterated.

Kite was only nine years old
when a bird flew over and landed on his arm. A beautiful white dove. It
knew that something bad was happening due to the panic coming from
below, but it didn't know what. Man had taken control of most of this
world, and now man was going to destroy it. And with themselves, they
were going to destroy all life, even if it had not done any bad deeds.
Such as the dove that was perched on his arm right now. This pure white
dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, which had not done anything wrong, was
to be destroyed by man, along with everything else.

The bomb hit
ground, the shock wave of the blast spreading outwards. Soon it reached
Toronto, and him. The world disappeared before his eyes. Everything went
white. It was over.

Kite was only nine years old when he died.
