Review of the Open Xat

Recently we've reinstated a system in where we open our site's Xat (The main chatbox right on the home page) on the occasion in order to try and get new members. The hope is that through it, we would have people from the Xat home page finding our site and hopefully joining it, kind of like additional advertising. The unfortunate truth about the trial of this method is that it really hasn't worked out. Given that these people are arriving from Xat, they are mostly looking for a chatbox in which they may chat about this or that, considering that they registered for at in the first place. During our trial, as far as I can tell we've recruited one member who has stuck with us for any decent amount of time, while the rest haven't lasted even a week, or were otherwise uninterested, or spammers.

So, I want to take this time to review how this trial period with open xat has gone with the rest of the site, and re-vote for it again. I personally wish to see this gone as it is simply not worth the hassle to get so little reward from it. Before you vote, the facts:

Pros:
- Another form of advertising for the site
- Has proven to work in recruiting on the occasion
- Some of our better members joined through this method in the past
- May provide interesting personalities in the xat
- Isn't always on

Cons:
- Required extra maintenance from staff
- Spammers and loiterers fill up the xat
- Advertisements aren't exactly targeting the right group
- Members recruited this way don't have good retention

Keep it open for a bit longer and if it doesn't seem profitable enough, shut it down without hesitation. Unless it's been going on for what most people consider a little too long (I don't know how long you guys have made it open) then just shut it down because it's both annoying for normal members and a bad idea right now. Also the mods must be tired of it by now.

Open Xat has been active on this site since April 15. That's two months.

Now that this has sat here for awhile, I can assume that most seem to be relatively okay with it. However, I'll go ahead and say that I'll be using it with more cautious. That is to say, I'll only activate it at certain times during the day when I know we can moderate it and then deactivate it before I leave.

I ish voting to keep it open because we can just ban them if it gets annoying and turn it off and on. I don't see the harm in it as I've banned them before myself as ex staff xD
