Hanako Shikijou, The Innocent Pick Pocket

Summary
Hanako arrived into the city of Karakura by transport that she bought passage from Osaka with the ill-gotten money that she picked off passer-bys. Although she was away from her corrupt father, she was followed by new enemies sent by her father for the promise of wealth from her capture. However, there was more into this than Hanako could think of. All she knew was her father wanted her back so she could make him money as a prostitute. Two of the human bounty hunters followed her from Osaka to the Rukongai Music, a music shop owned by a powerful man named, “Zen.” Zen noticed her troubles and offered her shelter from the bounty hunters, but Hanako stubbornly chose to keep running. With an escape planned, Zen gave her a black whistle, promising her that if she blows into it, he will come to help her out of a life-threatening situation. Hanako left the scene as Zen intercepted the bounty hunters, preventing them from following her. What truly bothered her was Zen’s warning about Hollows hunting her because her father was controlling them, which was baffling for her...she has to find someone who could help her understand more.

Summary
After a morning rummaging through a ruined building outside the safety of Karakura City, she came across some treasure and a backpack discarded long ago. She collected the things and went on her way to the outskirts of Karakura, determined to keep her location a secret from her hunters. She eventually noticed a town occupied by Nulls, a special kind of Quincy that she heard so little about. However, the gleam of shelter became a must-go place for her as she heard a loud bang and a shout as the dome was penetrated by something. Hanako thought it could be her Hollow hunters so she rushed to the Nulls, hoping they will help her against them. Feeling safe, she browsed the market on her way to the pawnshop. While distracted by delights that she could not afford, a child-like arrancar rushed and face-planted into the ground behind her. With Hanako’s attention caught by the boy, Hanako became curious about why the arrancar did not attack on sight...if he was her hunter, he must be a five-yen-coin deal for her father. She then encountered a rather dark-looking girl who at first seemed nice, but her underlying tone of discomfort sets off Hanako’s suspicions, so instead of completing the handshake initiated by the girl, Hanako caressed her head along with caressing the arrancar’s head. The boy liked it, but the girl acted posh, giving away half of her identity, making Hanako more suspicious. After introducing themselves, Hanako and Desalmado the Arrancar went to the pawnshop, followed by Morgana the Girl. There, Hanako awaits for her profit from selling rare junk she collected from rummaging.

Summary
After her adventure at the outskirts of Karakura, Hanako returned to the city and roamed some more (along with more picking pockets of unwary passer-bys.) Eventually, she came across a shop that she felt that she must go there for something. With conflicting thoughts, Hanako decided to find out why she was drawn there, probably picking an employee’s pocket could enlightened her about the shop. However during her fake sleep, something went by her very quickly and Hanako noticed, thinking it could be a robber. Generally, shop robbers are usually armed and dangerous, so why would Hanako even try to help them when she cannot fight? It no longer a matter, Hanako entered the shop’s front yard and sneaked to the backyard, hoping to catch the robber in the act. However, there was no robber and instead, Hanako was detected as the robber! Panicked and scrabbling for an escape, she blundered and wounded her left arm and leg by breaking through crates and barrels at the side alley of the shop. She limped to the exit...and collapsed at the spot she originally was when performing the fake sleep technique. She was found by a beautiful cat lady who sounded like a real mother would sound. Hanako was carried into the shop to be cared for by the cat lady. Hanako felt she could trust her and decided to explain everything to her about why she came to the shop. During treatment, Hanako explained many things including her situation to the cat lady before a Lesser Hollow came to the front yard. Hanako felt that she is found and she would need to keep moving to avoid being a burden to those who helped her. However, she cannot move and her fate lies with the cat lady for now. What was curious to her was the kind that the cat lady associated herself as, “a Vizard.” It was new to her and she has been thinking before a violent boom woke her up from her contemplation. The cat lady Vizard easily destroyed the intruder with an explosion that sounded like a clap of thunder. When the cat lady returned, she mentioned that the Hollow she fought was different than the regular. Hanako told the cat lady Vizard that it could be controlled by something and it could have been a human if the music man, Zen was correct. While she listened, the cat lady Vizard gave her a bottle of water and introduced herself as Kitty Yuudai. Still, Hanako persisted in the thought that she has to stay away to keep others safe and not waste away in unnecessary fights. Hanako introduced herself to Kitty in the way that Kitty introduced herself, but Hanako thought that she watched the news about the shamed candidate for prime minister. To her surprise, Hanako learned that Kitty does not watch the news frequently and told her that she will meet Kitty’s daughter. With her injuries, Hanako believed that it is inevitable that she will end up hurting Kitty’s daughter as a necessary pain for the sake of handling her own problem. When Hanako meets Kitty’s daughter, Hanako initially looks away as she could remember her childhood in a dark way before rolling onto her side after introducing herself, seemingly trying to cut herself away from a possible new friend, Sapphire Yuudai. Hanako now has further reason to leave before more comes for her.
