» Appearance Description: Yuukari has long, dark blue hair that reaches down slightly past her waist. Her hair is straight and has no bangs. Her eyes are a deep violet color that gets darker or lighter depending on her mood and lighting conditions. She tends to wear delicate, breezy shirts and short skirts that don't restrict her movement very much. Her skin is a medium-dark mocha color and relatively smooth, although she has two tattoos and one set of tattoo-like scars.

The first tattoo covers her shoulder blades where they were scarred in the car accident that killed her first boyfriend, lines of swirling brown that blends easily with her skin. The second is on her back, a faded heart with a swirling geometric design on the inside. The scars are on her stomach and form an image of a face using her bellybutton as the nose, although the face is surrounded by various elemental images. She is 5'11” tall and weighs 150lbs, being relatively thin and small-chested. Her blood type is O+.

» Personality: Yuukari is fairly calm and formal most of the time, preferring to observe others and listen to them than to speak herself. She is emotionally reserved although her actions offer differ from her emotions based on what she considers to be optimal for other people. For instance, if she sees someone who is distressed and seeking comfort, she would likely give them a warm hug but not feel any particular feelings of warmth towards that person.

She hates pain, suffering, and death and has vowed to eliminate this as much as possible. For this reason, she is constantly burdened by feelings of guilt when people die needlessly and she feels that it would have been possible to prevent that, even if such a thing would be impractical or actually impossible. She is also convinced based on her early life experiences that anyone she allows herself to love will die because of her, and thus becomes increasingly anxious about relationships as she grows closer to others.

Yuukari's basic modus operandi is to try to provide a place of comfort for whomever she deems to be the most likely to cause destruction to themselves or to others. She will intentionally befriend people that she senses are emotionally disturbed and tends to prefer to befriend the emotionally disturbed who also possess greater destructive ability i.e. are more powerful physically or spiritually. Internally, she prioritizes keeping strict control over her emotional states and releasing negative and positive feelings alike into her artwork and writing rather than into her relationships with other people. She does this, of course, because she does not wish to harm or stress anyone with her negative emotions and she is afraid of the intimacy that may be garnered by her positive emotions. If she cannot control her emotional state, she will isolate herself although her reishi becomes strangely visible and colorful when she is experiencing strong emotions.

» Background: Asanomoi Yuukari lived with her strict Japanese parents for the first 12 years of her life, but she had a lot of conflict with them as she grew up. This was based on the fact that her academic performance was not particularly high except in the areas relating to writing and artwork – talents that her parents wrote off as useless as they increasingly pressured her to do well in mathematics and science, which they deemed to be more appropriate studies. When she was 10, she moved to an all-girls boarding school where she had her first encounter with a hollow and discovered that she was different from the others, one of the few who was able to see and defend herself from the spiritual being. Her powers, born out of the need of the moment, took much effort to learn to utilize consciously. At 13, she moved to a co-ed high school and boarded there.

When she was 16 years old, she met a boy from her school named Hiori. They fell in love and began dating with all the passion that two teenagers could muster. She was overjoyed and ignored her parents' wishes, taking a job when they cut off her allowance to pay for her needs and desires. She got into the routine of walking around after work each night finding the distressed souls and using her empathy to soothe them, stalling them from becoming hollows and practicing her techniques at handling the raw power of emotions. One night, Yuukari lost track of the time as she practiced her powers and ended up outside the dorm long after dark. Her boyfriend Hiori became worried and went out searching for her. He did find her wandering the streets and took her hand to lead her back home, unfortunately walking directly in front of a moving car as he turned back to smile at her. Yuukari jumped forward to try to shelter him, but was hit to the side and broke the fall with her shoulders, sliding back and scraping the skin and muscle from her shoulder blades on the rough concrete. Once she had gathered her senses, she got up and ran to Hiori, only to hold him in her arms as he rapidly died, the back part of his head mashed partway in as he bled all over her shirt. She was 17 years old at this time. Hiori's parents never blamed her, but she always blamed herself for staying out too late that night and putting him in danger.

About a year later, Yuukari had emotionally healed enough to start dating another man, Irado. He was more of a bad-boy type of person that Hiori, who had always been loving and tender, and perhaps she secretly hoped that his tough personality would translate to being less fragile. What she didn't know was that Irado was dating her so that he could use her dorm room to hold stolen goods before fencing them off to the highest bidder on the back streets. The police did eventually track the goods to Yuukari's dorm and arrested her in front of Irado, who put on a lavish act of being shocked by his girlfriend's theft. She spent a traumatic few days in jail before the police let her out on bail and merely confiscated all the stolen goods Irado had left there. It was a few weeks before Yuukari got up the courage to go talk to Irado about it, and when she finally did he asked to meet her in a supposedly haunted park away from the prying eyes of others. Yuukari was hesitant but trusted that she could use her powers to defend herself if anything went wrong. As it turns out, Yuukari's powers were more useful that Irado's friends that he brought with him because the “haunted park” was haunted by a hollow. Irado realized rapidly that Yuukari could actually see the monster that was picking him up and begged for her to save him, and in the coldness of her hatred at his betrayal, she merely whispered back: “No.” Once more, she was questioned by police, although by this point in time they'd identified the fingerprints on the stolen goods as belonging to Irado rather than Yuukari. This time, she was spared the jail time.

Yuukari graduated high school and was given a scholarship to an art academy. Her parents cut off all contact with her at this point, believing her to be a worthless child that didn't listen to what they wanted her to be and was disrespectful to them for that reason. However, while she was at the art acadamy she ran into a shinigami for the first time, releasing one of the souls she had soothed into the afterlife. This immediately raised a bunch of questions for her and she began talking to the shinigami at great length, discovering the existence of soul society.

» Natural Attributes:
Empathy - Yuukari has fairly strong natural empathy and is able to pay attention to subtle body language cues to interpret others' emotional states.

Art – Yuukari is exceptionally proficient at drawing and painting and can produce high quality artworks using most traditional media, although her abilities with animation or computer-generated art are limited.

Writing – Yuukari is able to write beautiful and emotionally provocative prose and poetry.

» Racial Powers:
Anima Stone – Yuukari's anima stone is a deep blue jade set in a simple silver band around her left wrist.

Modified Soul Detection – In addition to the basic spiritually aware ability to detect souls, Yuukari is able to detect distortions in spiritual textures related to strong emotional states. The stronger the emotional state, the greater distance she can detect it from. However, if she is in close proximity to someone whose spiritual pressure is equal or greater than hers who is also experiencing a strong emotional state, the emotions will leak into her.

Hidden Message: Yuukari can tune any of her normal writing to a certain spiritual wavelength so that it can only be read by members of a certain race. With more effort, she can tune that more closely so that it can only be read by one specific reishi signature i.e. one individual whose reishi signature she knows.

» Soul State Evolution Stage 1 Appearance: Yuukari's hands become covered with a thin sheen of black ink and colors trail from her fingertips, a different color for every finger, in thin wisps like smoke. The sleeves of her shirt wrap around her arm and body and sink into it, blending with her topmost layer of skin. At this state she appears to be mostly topless and whatever pattern was on her clothing appears to be a tattoo on her skin, although her other tattoos and scars are visible blending with it. A bit of fabric remains loose to cover her breasts, attaching back to her skin on either end.

» Soul State Evolution Stage 1 Abilities:
Spirit Paper – in her released form, Yuukari is able to tear sheets of paper from thin air. How tough the paper is depends on how much energy Yuukari expends in creating it, and she can use her reishi to glue or fold it into whatever shape she desires. For instance, she could use it to form a shield against an incoming attack or fold it into an origami weapon.
The amount of energy that it takes Yuukari to make any given quantity of paper depends greatly on how tough the paper is. For instance, she would probably be exhausted after creating a 5 square meters of paper as hard as steel, but she could produce 5x as much if she only needed it to be as hard as stone and even more if it was as hard as wood. More complicated shapes take more time for her to fold as well.

Fingerpainting – in her released form, Yuukari's fingers bleed colors into the air. These colors are made of raw energy and each color represents an emotion. Her left hand can only hold negative or neutral emotions and her right hand can only hold positive or neutral emotions. The special colors can only be formed by exerting extra concentration and combining either all colors of the left hand or all colors of the right hand.
Note that this works by leeching energy from the emotions in the area and turning it into pure energy and therefore emotion is the input and energy is the output, rather than the other way around. For instance, if she is in the middle of a riot, the color that converts anger to energy would produce a lot of energy and the color that converts calm into energy probably wouldn't.

The particular set of 10 colors that Yuukari has are chosen each time she enters her released form by her. They cannot be changed mid-release (yet). They cannot be turned off although if left alone they will only really affect the air around her fingertips before they dissipate. The output is constant.
With a bit of concentration, Yuukari can stop the energy leaking from her fingertips from dissipated and instead let it accumulate. This forms a small field of light energy around her fingertips that can burn things (think lightsaber) and she can also fire it like a bullet although it does recoil. She can combine more than one color into the same bullet, but the recoil increases exponentially for each extra color she uses.
Because of the need to concentrate before she fires a bullet, Yuukari can only fire any given color once per post and only up to five bullets per post unless she intentionally takes a turn to prepare and fire more than five. All bullets are fired simultaneously.

Soulsong – in her released form, Yuukari chooses appropriate colors from her fingers. She feeds the energy of these three emotions directly into her stone, the colors forming a vortex as they are sucked in. While she is charging her stone, she sings into it and the sound is also absorbed by the stone. Once the charge has finished, Yuukari's anima stone glows and she has a short period of time before it releases the stored energy in a directed, slow-moving shockwave. Anyone hit by the shockwave hears her song amplified and the energy stored in the emotions partially imbues them after reverting to its base emotional state, strengthening any existing form of that emotion in themselves and making them more attuned to it. Alternately, she can release the stored energy into any piece of paper. In that case, anyone who touches the paper while she maintains concentration will be targeted.
This ability takes 2 turns to charge during which Yuukari cannot break concentration. Once its charged up, she may either release it immediately in every direction or wait for one turn to aim it in a direction - the first will produce a weaker spherical shockwave whereas the second one will produce a stronger conical one.

Yuukari can use this ability outside her released form as well but it is significantly weaker as it does not draw energy from her colors.

» Roleplay Sample:
Yuukari feels the flicker of red in Aisha's reiatsu as she takes her shirt out and mentally sighs slightly. She never understood what was so sexual about natural art that it seemed to attract that kind of attention from every man regardless of how pure. Of those he had met, only Ryuuhei didn't show any sort of sexual intention when he'd seen her shirtless. And she knew that Aisha was pure since he was only recently bereaved of his fiancee, whom he had surely loved with all his heart. Perhaps Ryuuhei was one of those people she had heard of, a "transgender"? Who knows...

Aisha's eyes come to a rest on her abdomen and she knows its because he has found her scars, the ones from her pact with Ryuuhei to symbolize the undue suffering Aisha had been forced to undergo. His expression changes to one of...grief. Only for a moment. Yuukari feels a touch of shame, knowing that this reaction would be the one she would receive. She starts carefully with a gentle voice, trying to emphasize the truthfulness of her tone in hopes that Aisha would feel the veracity of her words.

"Aisha, these scars do not exist for your sake. I intentionally hid them from you because you were the potential reason not to undergo them. They may be the scars Ryuuhei and I spoke of together, but they were inflicted on behalf of Ryuuhei in spite of you rather than vice versa."

When Aisha confesses the origin of his scars, a tremor of fear and deep sadness runs down Yuukari's body. She should have guessed as much; she'd seen the internal mileau of Aisha when he had initially reached Xcution Manor and assumed its significance for his pre-sealed emotions but she had somehow failed to make the connection even as he repeated it in human form following his first flight from the manor. More than that, she feels the pain of his current words as he confesses to her and realizes his actions still cause him shame presently. He requires comforting now, lest he return to battle desiring death. She absolutely refuses to let him die again.

Discarding her shirt on the ground as she requires both arms and doesn't have enough time to don it, Yuukari moves towards Aisha as he tries to exit her shelter and hugs him from behind, holding him tightly. A few tears fall from her eyes as she whispers a choked response into his ear.

"You are not a monster, Aisha, merely a man who makes mistakes like every other man or woman on the planet. Others conceal their shortcomings, I certainly do, and your confession only proves that you are more of a man than they or I will ever be."
