Overall Appearance

Personality: A trickster and a lazy man at heart, Kurokotsu is often seen as the court jester by his fellow Vizard. Similar to the jesters of old, he’s able to tell truths that nobody else dares. This is likely due to his carefree and lackadaisical attitude toward everything.

Even when on missions or out to kill someone, he still has a joking way of talking. However, he can turn that humor off, if he needs to blend in. A master of reading emotions, he knows exactly how to respond when he needs to calm people down or rile them up.

When it comes hobbies, he’s a fan of sneaking peaks at men in hot springs and isn’t above tricking someone into showing him what he wants to see.
Appearance: In his manner of hiding in plain sight, Kurokotsu avoids suspicion by dressing up like a clown. Oftentimes he’s seen in glittery, gaudy black jeans. He also tends to wear a long-sleeved jester-type shirt. The whole left side is a dark purple, the whole right side a bright gold. Bells jingle on his chest and feet whenever he moves, which he often exploits by dancing around.

When he leaves his Gigai, he takes on a more normal appearance, wearing tight black jeans and a light blue short-sleeved shirt. As if trying to distract his foe, the sleeves of his shirt are taut around his decently-sized biceps. His hair, often covered by a cap in his Gigai, is revealed to be long and fine. Tied back at the nape of his neck, his hair looks like hay covered in ink. Strands stick out every once in a while, no matter how hard he tries to force them into place.

Zanpakuto (Sealed) Description

Zanpakuto Name: Fuhen Hekikaisou

Zanpakuto Spirit: A four foot tall mirror kept upright by a pair of long wings sprouting out of the top of it, wings which start as silver angel wings and morph into those of the devil, leathery and smooth at the bottom. That is just the prison of the true spirit, though. The actual spirit is the angelic face trying to push its way out of the mirror, only having gotten the first half of its head out before it became stuck.

Zanpakuto World: Hekikaisou’s spirit world is very bright, looking like a cross between a black hole and a rainbow. The colors swirl and twist about, which gives off the illusion of movement. To add to this, mirrors are placed along the perimeter, giving it a look of endlessness.

Sealed Zanpakuto Appearance: While sealed, Hekikaisou is a wakizashi-styled blade, having no guard. The hilt of this blade is covered in thin white fabric, like that of a veil.

Release Phrase: Unfurl your wings, heavenly body. Twist their ambitions, demonic host. Shatter, Hekikaisou!

Zanpakuto (Shikai) Description

Shikai Appearance: While in Shikai Hekikaisou is a basic katana, seemingly coated in shimmering water. In actuality, it’s a thin layer of mirror-like substance along the length of the blade, giving off reflections of anything nearby. The white material from sealed state has turned ragged, strips of gray cloth hanging off of the grip.

Shikai Abilities: Hekikaisou has two main abilities in Shikai state.

The first one is that if a technique is seen by Kurokotsu while released, the blade will relay reishi composition of that attack to the wielder. With this information, Kurokotsu can form his own version of that technique. However, this has downfalls. In Shikai, Kurokotsu can only use this copied technique once or twice before he has to see it used again. Also, he can’t copy ethereal things, such as gravity or light. If there is no base for him to copy from, he can’t even form a rudimentary clone. More often than not, these clones involve using kido to replicate what the original had naturally.

The second ability is free manipulation of the blade’s shape. Kurokotsu can change it to anything with a blade, by squeezing various places with his hands and trying to pull other pieces apart.

Zanpakuto (Bankai) Description

Bankai Appearance: When released to Bankai, Hekikaisou’s blade shatters, leaving Kurokotsu grasping only the hilt. From the scattered, dust-like fragments comes a sinister glow, as they all form a vacuum, sucking in reishi in the air as the pieces act like a puzzle. Each piece interlocks with those around it, forming a dark purple, almost amethyst-like shield. This shield is around four feet long, being a perfect circle.

Bankai Abilities: The copying skills seen in Shikai are strengthened, in that he can use them as often as he wants, as long as he remains in Bankai. However, he loses the ability to change forms; instead he has to change weapons by breaking off pieces of Fuhen Hekikaisou. These pieces can be thrown as weapons or linked together by reishi.

Fuhen Hekikaisou has one unique technique: Eternal Resonance. Kurokotsu summons his Zanpakuto Spirit to use this technique, and he can only do it once per fight. Doing so causes a perfect copy of his foe’s attack to appear from within Hekikaisou’s mirror, blocking and then shattering the attack of the foe. Doing so places a lot of strain on Kurokotsu, though.

Hollow Mask and Inner Hollow

Inner Hollow Description: Kurokotsu’s Inner Hollow can be seen in every mirror within Hekikaisou’s spirit world. Rather than a physical body, it instead teleports from mirror to mirror, the dark ghostly body looking like a blur.

Inner Hollow Personality: The complete opposite of Kurokotsu, this inner hollow is sadistic and cruel. She likes to play tricks on others and confuse them, often using mirrors in her little games. Unwilling to give a straight answer, she can often be harder to communicate with than a mute.

Hollow Mask Appearance: Kurokotsu’s Hollow Mask resembles a set of aviator’s goggles, large lenses and white straps instead of a full mask. Ten smaller, almost mirror-like lenses are placed on the outer edge of the mask, five around each eye.

Hollow Powers: By adjusting those lenses on his mask, Kurokotsu can augment his natural skills. By moving the lenses around his left eye closer to the main goggle, he can increase his movement speed. By moving them farther away, he lowers movement speed but gains more power with kido. The right eye, moving them nearer increases defensive power, but moving them farther away lowers defense at the cost of greater strength.

This Mask grants Kurokotsu a special cero that he has named the ‘Drop-Dead Gorgeous Cero’. Starting at the point in the middle of his goggles, it begins as an orb of bright red energy. Over time, more colors are added, until a full rainbow is seen, swirling around the orb. When released, the six colors twist and turn, confusing the enemy before hitting them. The after-effects of this cero can sometimes cause blindness.

Background/Roleplay Sample

Background: As a human, Kurokotsu was the kind of person who always knew the answer to a question, yet never felt compelled to tell anybody else what he inherently knew. Due to this, he went through his entire life without a single friend, simply because of his unwillingness to help others out. This character trait caused his early downfall on the summer of his twenty-fifth birthday, when he was stabbed repeatedly by an angry teenage male because he 'acted superior', at least in the words of that child.

In death, Kurokotsu attempted to fix the flaw that caused his untimely death. He went through the various districts, only ever stopping at one for two or three days at most. As he went along, he learned gradually of the struggles that existed in each one. Some of what he saw gave him hope, such as when he saw a district that tried to help each other survive the Hollow assaults it found itself in the middle of quite often. Others, though, broke his heart. One time, he saw a young child stabbed through the chest because he stole a simple kimono from someone outside his own district.

It was with all of this new information that he decided to try his luck at the shinigami academy with a group of talented people he found during his excursion. Out of the five he went in with, only two actually had the power to make it beyond the initial tests. However, he found it relatively difficult to stay with them as he had said he would. He focused on kido, and they both gravitated toward zanjutsu, leaving them at opposite sides of the spectrum when it came to how they trained.

He was only able to keep his word by waiting for them to need his assistance at kido manipulation. The instructor those two shinigami-in-training worked with in zanpakuto techniques had insisted they each learn at least one spell so as to tie the enemy down. This is where kis knowledge was finally tested, having to teach two people who knew nothing about bakudo spells how to do a relatively advanced one. With his nose buried in books, though, he figured out the best choice for them to work at. Despite it being relatively high, at sixty-one, he made them practice Rikujokoro. As he had told them, spirit chants made all kido techniques easier to control than the counterparts which had none

His own instructor realized what Kurokotsu had done, and was rather impressed. The amount of research he conducted was more than the average student would ever do, especially for someone else. So Kurokotsu was told to attempt healing those injured by hado techniques that backfired. He tried to learn those techniques, but couldn't quite figure out how best to use his reiatsu to help others, not until he finally finished the academy based largely off of his expertise in strategy and kido.

With his training in consideration, he was placed directly into the fourth division. It wasn't until one day when he was seen healing people injured in sparring matches that he was able to have someone he could call a teacher. The lieutenant of his squad back then saw his promise and helped him cultivate his techniques for about fifty years, until he rose to third seat, the only one in his squad to have done so without knowing the name of his Zanpakuto.

Once he learned how to release his Zanpakuto though, the Captain of his division realized how little he fit in, considering the odd nature of his Shikai. With that, he was shipped off to the twelfth division and quickly rose through the ranks there, until achieving Lieutenant. It was shortly after that promotion, though, that he was demoted.

Before, it was assumed the new Captain had nobody planned for the spot. He learned how wrong the others were when less than ten years into his rule as Lieutenant, a petit young woman with dark hair came and informed him of her name.

Angry at his quick replacement, Kurokotsu fled. He sneaked out of the Seireitei and even out of the Soul Society, not stopping until he reached a small town in southern America. From there, he quickly got used to always being in his Gigai, even learning how to act like others nearby.

As the years passed, he slowly learned to control his Inner Hollow, a result of his time in the Twelfth Division that only manifested a hundred years later. With this new, stronger spirit, he quickly conquered his Zanpakuto and attained Bankai.

looking over this app i find even his most poweful has a pretty good drawback and reasoning with the powers alone seems a good take on it
