General Information
Name: Kurobara Dokueki
Appearance Age: 54
True Age: 683
Gender: Female
Overall Appearance
Personality: In the days of her youth, Kurobara was a fiery, easily-angered person. She never hesitated to solve her problems with violence. Among other Divisions, she was disliked for this, called too immature to be a Lieutenant. It was only in the Eleventh that she was praised for her ruthlessness.
Over the years, she’s calmed down, though. She still has an anger inside of her, but it has been tempered by hundreds of years spent figuring herself out. Whereas before she would fight anybody and anything, she’s now able to take a step back and analyze her chances of victory.
Appearance: During her time in the human world, Kurobara has strayed away from her old attire, which used to consist of tight, revealing clothes. She now wears loose, concealing blouses most of the time, only changing when she knows she has to look younger than she is. She’s also dyed her hair to fit in better. Before, it was a bright, vibrant red. Now she dyes it a pale, golden blonde and keeps it shoulder-length.
Her favorite outfit, and the one she is seen in most often, consists of a dark purple top, elegant golden ribbons and designs drawn along the baggy sleeves and around her stomach. Held up by a dull gold-buckled belt, she wears black jeans, intentionally two sizes too large around the waist to leave her room to maneuver. When she expects to fight, Kurobara wears solid black sneakers.
Outside of her Gigai, Kurobara’s clothes remain the same. Instead of long, spacious sleeves, her left sleeve is completely removed, revealing a polished wooden arm. .
Height: Five feet, six inches
Weight: One hundred ninety-three pounds
Zanpakuto (Sealed) Description
Zanpakuto Name: Gansaku Enryo
Zanpakuto Spirit: Enryo takes on the form of an old, wizened tree when speaking to Kurobara, his roots spread far and wide through to the corners of her inner world. The large, upper half is a healthy dark brown, but the bottom part is a charred light gray, the signs of struggle and then triumph over her Inner Hollow.
Zanpakuto World: Rather plain in appearance, Enryo’s world exists of him and a large, lush plain, only disturbed by his roots.
Sealed Zanpakuto Appearance: Enryo is hidden inside Kurobara’s prosthetic arm, having been crafted inside of it long ago. This limb is controlled by Kurobara through the latent reishi released by Enryo.
Release Phrase: Unleash, Enryo
Zanpakotu (Shikai) Description
Shikai Appearance: Releasing Shikai turns Enryo’s blade to ash, making Kurobara’s prosthetic arm go limp. As this happens, wood begins to grow over her limbs, making her look more like a tree than a human being. On her hands and feet, this growth is rough and jagged, but it is smooth on the rest of her body, allowing her to conceal it beneath her normal clothing.
Shikai Abilities: Unleashing Shikai gives Kurobara control over wood. She can grow her limbs out like trees, increasing her range or strengthening her defense. By punching the ground, she can cause trees to shoot out from her target point.
Zanpakotu (Bankai) Description
Bankai Appearance: Releasing Bankai grants Kurobara control of her left arm again. Over the polished, well-balanced arm grows rough, imposing bark. This arm grows thick, looking like the trunk of a rather large tree.
Bankai Abilities: Her techniques from Shikai are strengthened in Bankai, and she also gains access to a new technique. This technique was named Falcon Punch, the name changed by passersby who heard her mention a strong punch. This technique involves crafting a lot of bark over her left fist, whereupon she coats that limb with her own reishi and then punches the ground or her foe as hard as she can. The reishi involved in this causes trees to burst out from whatever is hit, often tearing and ripping it asunder.
Hollow Mask and Inner Hollow
Inner Hollow Description: The Inner Hollow of Kurobara has been largely subdued by the spiritual and physical weight of Enryo, leaving it very little room to move or exert control. This is due to many years of practice and coordination between Kurobara and her Zanpakuto.
Inner Hollow Personality: This Inner Hollow reluctantly gives her power to Kurobara, under threats from Enryo to remove her from existence. Despite her rage-filled tendencies, she seems to value her life, or what little freedom is afforded her.
Hollow Mask Appearance: The Hollow Mask resembles the inside of a tree, countless rings spanning the white circular form.
Hollow Powers: Kurobara’s Hollow Mask allows her to hollow out or fill up her wooden limbs, making herself as light as normal or much heavier. This affects her speed as well as her power, acting like a scale. To put more weight in increases power but makes her speed suffer.
Resurreccion Appearance: N/A
Resurreccion Abilities: N/A
Background/Roleplay Sample
Background: A victim of famine as a child, Kurobara was shaped and formed by the Rukongai life. She fought and defeated anybody who tried to steal what little happiness she found, and continued growing in strength as she aged. Once her body had matured enough so she could pass as an adolescent spirit, she applied to the Shinigami Academy.
As she expected, Kurobara excelled at Hakuda and Hoho. Her skills at Zanjutsu and Kido, though, were quite lackluster. She always had an issue with her left arm and never quite knew why she couldn’t use it.
After a rather uneventful time in the Academy, she graduated and, with her intense hatred, was shipped off to the Eleventh Division. There, she found her anger balanced out by that of the others, making her feel like she wasn’t the only one who had been through hard times.
After around ten years in this Division, she began to receive training from her Zanpakuto. Despite his warnings though, she tried too hard to master his powers and suffered a painful accident. In this, a branch shot right through her already weakened left arm, leaving no chance of ever using it again.
With the help of the Fourth, she had a fake arm crafted with her Zanpakuto as the core, and the bark that had destroyed her old one as the outer area. It was beautifully crafted, bright and clean and polished. It worked better than her old one ever had.
With that in her mind, she set out once more to master her Zanpakuto, but with a greater level of confidence she triumphed. With this and the increased power of her combat skills, she quickly flew through the ranks, all the way to Lieutenant.
She held that position for about fifty years, until the day her Captain, a man she looked up to, was brutally cut down by a challenger, a man named Zaraki. With his first act as Captain, he knocked Kurobara down the Division, placing her in the Third Seat she had surpassed long before. His reason: He had a pink-haired brat who deserved the seat more, he felt.
With this anger inside her, Kurobara stormed out of her Division, quitting the Gotei Thirteen, likely never to return. She killed Hollow in the human world by herself, staying in a Gigai when she needed to. After a while, though, she ran into an Adjuchas. All alone, she did her best to kill it, but was unable to do so; instead this Menos corrupted her, fusing some of his reishi with her own.
For a hundred years, she struggled and fought to overcome this Inner Hollow. On her own, she eventually triumphed, thanks to a passionate connection with Enryo.
After that, she began working for Bankai. Her connection with her Zanpakuto sped her training along, making her able to communicate with Enryo much better than most.
Role Play Sample: “So, this is Madame Rose’s Psychic Emporium, hmm? Guess it’s time to see just what the future has in store for me…” The modestly-dressed figure spoke as she walked inside. Brushing aside the multitudes of bright green and purple beads with an arm, she called out to the owner. “Oh, Madame Rose, I am here for my appointed tarot reading. Are you at home?” She asked as she drew a black terrycloth jacket closer around herself, seeking refuge from the dust swirling around in the air. On her jacket was a plain white nametag that said ‘Marie’, likely from some sort of hospital job.
She looked around slowly, trying to imagine the owner through everything strewn across the floor. All around the entrance, she saw dozens of dust-covered tomes, most of them with the covers ripped off. It seemed she had stumbled into quite the eccentric. As her eyes came to rest on a doorway filled with brightly colored beads, Marie found her way to a chair and slowly sat down on it.
“Coming, my child. I seem to have gotten myself caught on the floor. Just wait a short while!” A raspy voice called back, grunting with every few words. Before the other figure could get up to assist, a loud tearing sound was heard. Tumbling end over end, Madame Rose came through the doorway, a mess of purple linen and gaudy Mardi gras beads. “Oh dear, I really need to fix that floorboard. Not now, of course. I wish the cards had warned me of that…” The pile of cloth said as it hauled itself up to a seat.
“So, child, what is it you seek from the cards?” the exalted Madame Rose asked her guest, guiding her through the shuffling and cutting of the deck. “It’s…It’s my husband. I have reason to believe he’s been…he’s been with another woman,” Marie explained. “He goes out at night and comes back smelling like a garden, if he comes back at all. I’m worried, Madame Rose…”
“Oh, I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about. The deck will reveal a future of happiness, and faithfulness, and…oh shit.” The robed figure said as she revealed the first card. “Oh shit? What is it!?” Marie asked, suddenly forceful. “The Nine of Swords. It represents cruelty or betrayal. Oh, but I’m sure the spirits are just confused. Nothing to worry about, child. Let us see the next card…”
Much to Marie’s dismay, however, the next card spoke further of such deeds. The next, and the next, every card turned over seemed to speak more and more of what she had most feared. “Death, Temperance in reverse, and the Tower. All of these refer to dark times, as well as untruth. Run my child, run to your loved one!” She warned, flinging her arms outward toward the door.
Never one to ignore such things, Marie quickly grabbed a handful of dollars out of her purse and placed them before Madame Rose. Nodding quickly, she took off. She didn’t even notice the single card left face-down in front of the fortune teller.“God speed, child. God speed…” Rose spoke as she flipped over the final card. “Ten of Swords. Well, she most certainly is in the darkest of times right now. But the card also shows hope for the future. Crap, I bet she would’ve liked to have known that little bit. Oh well…” She said as she carefully placed the cards back into her robe and watched Marie’s car drive off toward town.
We've already been through what has needed to be changed on the xat and in personal messages, and I see that everything is up-to-date.
Therefore, I will go ahead and give my little stamp of approval for this application.
