Chapter 1 Origin
“I'll be right back,” he spoke, as he walked away, an empty expression on his face. The boy seemed to be an innocent one at first, with a face that could make any woman fall to his 'shota' physique. His smiles captivated young girls around him, but when he looked emotionless, that was what really made the females' hormones overflow. It was, however, rare for him to show a face without emotion. And that face only appeared when on the inside, his body was flowing with feelings. Those feelings were not that of an innocent young boy though.
One month prior to this development, the young boy, named Kururai, came from the locally famous and rich family of the Osamerukamis. His family was known throughout the whole town, and although the town was small, it was widely known. “Dad, I'll be right back” the young boy spoke, off to find adventure within the nearby forests.
As he came back, he was quite astonished to find nothing but fires, cries of the forsaken, as well as the blood of his own kin spread throughout the town's cobblestone floor. He simply frowned and walked through the burning fires. He saw a bandit holding a housewife's hair in his hands. “What are you doing?” the boy asked. The bandit cut the head of the housewife, and turned with a fresh smile. “HAHA, what have I here? A young one eh?” The man slowly walked towards Kururai, but stopped dead in his tracks after 5 paces. The fear within him showed on his face. “What are you?” The bandit asked, with a catch in his throat.
“I'm pissed.”
Kururai sheathed his large broadsword, and without a single flinch, he severed the man's feet away from his ankles. “I'll ask again, what are you doing?”
“I'm just doing a job!”
“A job?”
“We were hired to kill the family named Osamerukami! Please spare me!”
The boy finally showed an expression, however this one made the bandit shake even more. With a devilish smile, the young man said, “Well you found one.” Without hesitation, the boy killed the bandit, head severed from his body.
An attack came from Kururai's side immediately after he finished his clean cut. “Haha, that's cute. A surprise attack.”
“You managed to block it. Interesting”
The boy finally showed an expression that overtook his whole body. He was caught off guard by voice of a young woman. He finally turned his head to see that a beautiful young maiden was clashing blades with him. His stance weakened, and the female intended to have that mistake make him suffer. She spoke with a soft voice, “Your emotions affect you too much. Simply the sight of a pretty girl makes you waver,” as she swiftly swept his blade aside, aiming for his chest.
“You’re naive.”
His blade stuck to the inside of her abdomen. She showed no signs of life, her arms simply dangling. He was sad. He clearly cried as he saw the two people he had killed within 1 minute, obviously showing his mental instability. “Crying from a simple stab through your shoulder? Sad isn't it?” A man with a scythe, oddly, walked towards the weeping boy. Kururai was once again surprised. He had not noticed the blade sticking in his shoulder.
“No matter, you'll die from the poison inside it anyways.”
“Poison?”
“Of course, that blade is a cursed one. It’s one of the 100 cursed weapons, The Reapers.”
The boy was of course aware of the hundred Reapers. They were weapons designed to create better lives throughout the nation. They were created by the best minds and materials in the world. The emperor 500 years ago intended for it to bring happiness through the land, to protect the empire from devastation. The boy smiled mischievously, “I wonder what bandits such as yourselves are doing with weapons of great potential.” The man countered Kururai's grin with another. “We are not bandits, we are assassins. Assassins that kill the people who corrupt the nation. The Osamerukamis have been torturing people who oppose them to death.”
“I am Kururai Osamerukami, son of Onaru Osamerukami, and I know nothing about the things that you speak of.”
“I guess they didn't tell you.”
Kururai looked behind him, where his father's estate stood. Next to it was a shed that Kururai was not to be around. The shed's gate was opened, and inside he saw a familiar face. He immediately ran towards it, with horror on his face. “LEN!!” He yelled, looking at his personal servant. “Oh, young master, I am sorry I could not die an honorable death. I found this shed and told your father to stop such madness, since one day you would find out and be horrified. I fear I am out of time, I shall one day see you again, most likely on the other side.” Len's voice faded. Kururai's father, Onaru, rushed out of his house, astonished to see his son standing at the front of the shed. “Son, it's not what you think. This isn't... it's not what you...” The assassin stood behind Kururai, asking him, “So now I guess you're just going to die alongside your father.”
“Wrong.”
“Oh, are you still going to fight back?”
“Wrong again.”
“What?”
Kururai had the same expression that made the previous bandit he had killed tremble. His father spoke, “Oh no...”
“My father does not kill his innocent servants.” Kururai pulled the cursed weapon, one of the 100 reapers, out of his shoulder and stuck down Onaru. “This corpse is not my father.”
The assassin's face, just like the bandit's, was horrified, but mostly at the expression on Kururai's face, instead of the fact that he had just killed his own father without hesitation. “I would ask you to join us, since you are obviously capable of doing the work of an assassin, but you’re a dead man walking.”
“Oh? Is that so?” He threw the cursed blade in his hands at the man rushing at him from behind. “Your comrades make a lot of noise.”
The assassin in front of the boy thought to himself, how is he still up? The poison should have killed him several minutes ago. Some people have good resistance, but this is simply impossible. “Hey kid, how are you still standing?” The kid once again had an innocent face, like the time before he left for adventure in the nearby forests. His smile was so irresistibly cute. Almost as if he had never killed his own father. “You're funny mister; I stand because I want to!” His face immediately went back to being emotionless.
“How are they still alive?” The young girl who he had called naïve earlier and the man behind him who he had thought was struck down were back up. The girl spoke first, “How are you still alive? Why don't you tell me that first? The poison should've killed you moments ago. No matter, let’s kill him now.”
“No, no, wait a minute,” the assassin spoke, “We could use him. He wielded your sword, and sure that only means that he is compatible with your weapon, a lot of people are. After all, yours is much easier to handle than the rest, but he is standing from the poison. That makes him at least worthy of research.”
“I think I need further reason.”
“Well he did get a nice clean hit on you.”
“.... For now we'll take him.”
Kururai laughed, once again with an innocent face, “Do you guys have good food where you live? I no longer have a place to live, so I don't mind going along, but I would at least like something be given in return for coming along! I mean, you guys are assassins, I think I trust you guys far less than you guys trust me.”
The assassin, young girl, and man behind were fascinated. “Your village is burnt to the ground, you have your father lying beneath your feet, and you are looking at the victims of your family’s sin.”
“They are not my family; my family does not kill innocents.” The boy spoke, looking at the assassin in the eye with a face capable of making a god tremble. The assassin spoke with a loud voice, “Haha! That's right! This man isn't your father! Haha, he's just another dead guy that you used to know right?” The maiden was surprised once again, “You killed your own fath-”
“He is not my father.”
“Ah... yes. You really do have a screw loose in your head don't you?” With a bright smile, he said, “Not really, I just prefer to protect the ones I love, and some of the guys in this shed were important to me.” The girl was for the third time surprised, and quickly turned away, slightly blushing. Strike, the assassin thought to himself. “Well this little guy is pretty cute, right Yokairi?”
“Shut up.”
“Pretty cold to me aren't you? I never knew you were a sucker for his type! You have weird tastes, for some sort of demon spawn like this fello-”
“I said shut up... Hey kid, what's your name?”
The child spoke with a happy voice. “My name is Kururai Osamerukami, nice to meet you Kairi! By the way, that's a beautiful name, it suits you! It's Japanese right? Just like me!”
Yokairi once again blushed. “I don't like your name... I mean it's hard to say. Since you called me Kairi, I'll call you Demon.” The assassin, currently kneeling from the blow he took, laughed and said, “Already calling each other by nicknames? Hehe, by the way, wasn't that the name of your cute dog?” The young girl saw a chance to change the boy's status. “Yeah, he's just like a dog.”
“So in other words, he's cute ri-”
Chapter 2 Newbie
“So we have everybody here right? All 14 of us?” Burama, the assassin from earlier, said. “These are your new friends Demon! Say hi!” Kururai, now nicknamed demon by the young maiden, spoke in his usual innocent voice, “Hi everybody! I'm Kururai, but Ca Burma and Kairi call me Demon for some reason!” The group exploded into laughter, “AHAHA,” one man spoke out, “He called you Ca Burma!” Burama shouted with a stern face, “Shut up!”
“Haha, he got called Ca Burma!”
“Yokairi is now Kairi? Aha!”
“Hey kid, what does 'Ca' mean?”
“In this town, we call a big brother, sister, or cousin Ca!”
“Haha, he thinks of you as a big brother! He's for sure gonna get killed, this little kid!”
Kururai had a scary grin on his face, “You’re going to kill me? Are you?” Burama was suddenly stepped back a little, and replied, “Aha... of course not Demon.”
The group suddenly got quiet. There were murmurs going around.
“Dude, is Burama scared?”
“Why do you think Burama calls this kid Demon, kinda a scary name don't you think?”
One man spoke out, “Hey Burama, what makes this kid so scary?” Burama spoke out, “He is alive and well. After he took a stab to the shoulder by Yokairi's one hit one kill reaper, Kurosae, he landed a hit on her, then killed the head of the Osamerukamis family.” Yokairi quickly pointed out “Why is it that the positive things about him are negative things to me?” Laughter once again consumed the crowd.
One man amongst the group suddenly shouted with a concerned voice, “Hey guys, there are only 13 of us here, where's John?” There was a dead silence.
Kururai suddenly remembered the man he had cut down. “What did John look like?”
“He was huge.”
“Has a thing for torturing people.”
“Likes housewives.”
“Oh yeah, he also has a giant battle-axe.”
Kururai, in a joyful tone, said “I killed him.”
Everyone's eyes widened at Kururai. “He was about to kill someone, I don't like people like him.”
“He killed John?”
“Does this kid also have a reaper?”
A man suddenly rushed at Kururai with a long sword in hand, “YOU!!” The young boy instinctively jumped in the air and slashed at the man. He of course blocked. The assassin used a flurry of attacks on the boy nicknamed Demon, as he parried every single blow. Their speeds were incredible, however due to the attacking assassin's rage, his footwork faltered, leaving an opening. Kururai took the chance and sliced the assassin in half. Everyone backed away. “Two Reapers in one night? This boy he's a.... a... demon!” The boy once again had an expression on his face that was indeed quite frightening to see, especially since it was made right after he had just killed another man without mercy. The expression on Kururai's face that was unexpected as well. It was an innocent smile. “Sorry for killing you and your friend, but I could not avoid it. Well at least you get to go see him right?” Everyone in that instant knew why the name Demon was such a suitable choice.
Chapter 3 Beginning
Traveling back to base, the young “demon” was feeling lonely. Everyone was much too afraid to confront him. Occasionally some people would challenge him, but of course, they were beaten to a pulp. The only reason these people didn't die, according to Kururai, is that they didn't have a killing intent. They simply wanted a “duel”.
In the instance that “Demon” fights, his aura changes to complete darkness, with absolutely no killing intent, and yet so intense and frightening. The people around him called it, “Demon-Mode”. The only people who would occasionally walk beside the boy were Burama and Yokairi. Nobody questioned why those two weren't as afraid. Kururai saw the man as a big brother, and to him, Yokairi was simply a girl his age.
Now and then, some people would try to walk closer to Kururai when Yokairi or Burama were beside him. On one occasion, Kururai said to the group “Thanks guys!” Astonished just as much as everyone else, the only female in the group, Yokairi asked why. “Well, because even after I hurt a couple of you guys, I was still accepted! I am especially grateful to you Kairi. You're the same age as me so it feels easier to talk to you.” He once again had an innocent smile. Yokairi quickly replied, “You talk out loud too much,” as she turned away, blushing. Burama smiled, two strikes in a row, you're pretty good kid.
After that day, others found it easier to talk to the proclaimed demon boy. They all started to become fond of him, because, after all, he is just a young child with an innocent smile... Most of the time.
Nearly everyone no longer openly feared Kururai. There were instances, however, where they simultaneously admired, and yet still feared, his potential in battle. After all he did defeat two Reapers in one night, without wielding a similar weapon. One time, as they camped out, Kururai and 3 others were guarding. The boy heard noises deep within the forest. Constantly adventuring out in the woods, “Demon” eventually gained heightened senses. He went out to scout and came back less than 5 minutes later drenched in animal blood with three bear-wolves behind him (Animals that have the appearance of a wolf, but as big as a standing bear when sitting). These animals were class A beasts. Each category of animals has ratings, going from E to S. The categories go from Beasts to Celestial Beings. Seeing as these animals were highly rated, and that even one would present a challenge towards a Reaper, this made the impression of Kururai evermore frightening. “I brought us dinner!”
After the whole party ate, Kururai told the story of him fighting the bear-wolves, as if it was an epic, and he was the hero. “I heard strange noises, so I went to check it out. I forgot to tell everyone else though. As I was walking, I saw a whole pack of bear-wolves eating away at a dozen deer. I quickly sliced the legs off of one. It startled the others, but they were prepared for a new meal. Of course, I did not falter, and I swept away at the 9 beasts. I almost even got into a pinch. One of these monsters was behind me, another in front, and the last to the right. A tree was at my left, and so I was nearly stuck. I saw an opportunity to test out my new move though. I call it, 'Render'. It's a special move I use to disarm my opponent, or 'render' him incapable of still attacking me. Of course, this would take amazing amounts of energy, and I don't have enough alone. So I creating a certain swing, at a specific angle, and with precision, I cut the tree to my left all the way through. The tree landed on the bear-wolf to my left, as I cut the head off of the one in front. I threw my sword up into the air, and to my surprise, the last bear-wolf tried to jump over me, failing of course, and hitting the floor with a thud. And those three are here with now, helping us stay alive. I couldn't bring the rest because they're all so heavy.”
As usual, Yokairi tended to the wounds in which Kururai was oblivious to. The demon constantly had new wounds and scars. He feels nearly nothing when taking a blow to his body, which helps when he fights, but is highly dangerous, since he does not know when his body has taken too much. This is usually a “bonding” moment for Yokairi and “Demon”, or at least that's what all the others thought. “Thanks for always taking care of me,” Kururai said. To everyone but the boy's surprise, Yokairi smiled. “Ohohoho Demon, quite a smile you put on her!” Said Burama, while taking a blow to the abdomen from the usual culprit. “Well that's good; she's much prettier when she's smiling.” Yokairi turned around, as she usually does when blushing. Especially since it is easy to see her turn red, since her skin is white as snow.
Chapter 4 Blooming
It was spring at the time, nearly 3 weeks after the incident at the small village that the young “demon” was from. They next place they were to camp out at was near a lake. Kururai and Yokairi were sent to go fishing for two reasons. The first, being that the party needed food. The second was to see the development between Yokairi and Kururai. Everyone was convinced that the young girl was a bit more “fond” of “Demon” than the rest of them.
Since it was spring, many flowers were out. Kururai slowly walked further from his original fishing spot and picked a flower from the ground. He looked up, and winked at Burama, standing in the shadows along with everyone else, staring at the two youngsters. They all smiled and gave thumbs up. Kururai walked towards the girl fishing alongside him. “Yokairi.” She turned to him and replied with a formal, “Yes?” He pulled her hair behind the ear, and put a Blue Orchid in it. “It brings out the blue in your eyes. The color shines just like this lake.”
“Your pick-up lines are really corny you know?”
“Does it at least work?”
He smiled at her, already knowing the answer, despite the silence. Suddenly her line tugged. Yokairi, being off guard, nearly let the fishing pole escape her grasp. Kururai quickly got behind her, pulling the line along with her. “Hehe, need a little help?”
Her entire face turned bright red. “You’re not as smooth as you think, okay?”
“Yes, yes, of course I'm not.”
They finally tugged hard enough to pull the large fish out of the lake.
After they finished gathering the food, Yokairi and Kururai headed back towards the camp. Everyone was waiting for them with smiles. Burama scooted over bit, leaving a seat on the log near the fire open for the boy to sit on. “Hey Demon, how are you so good with girls?” Kururai had a hearty laugh and explained. “Back in the village, a lot of girls my age wanted to get close to me for their families, since we were the richest in the area. Often times, I would play along, testing new lines to see whether they worked or not. Of course even the bad ones still worked. Every word a man uses works with the help of money.” Burama chuckled, agreeing. “That's probably the same everywhere!” Kururai grinned as he finished up, “Well eventually I found a pattern, and now I can make up new lines on the spot, and it'll usually work, depending on the character of the girl!” Burama spoke saying, “Haha, quite a womanizer, aren't you Demon!”
A man stepped behind the boy and asked, “Hey Demon, how do you carry such a huge sword? It's nearly bigger than you!” Kururai had a puzzled look on his face. “This sword is super light!” The man stepped up and tried to carry the weapon. “What the... it's stuck to the ground!”
“Haha, no it's not!” The boy grabbed the blade and tossed it high into the air. Everyone stared at the broadsword, still escalating, amazement showing in their eyes.
“Well anyways,” Burama said, with a grin starting to develop, “it’s about time to rest. Hehe, we'll have Yokairi and Demon guard!” Kururai turned to his proclaimed “older brother” instantly, smiling. He knew at that moment what was going on, and did not hesitate to seize this opportunity.
Chapter 5 Development
“Yokairi?” She replied in a slightly nervous tone, “Yes?” Kururai began to smile and asked, “How did such a pretty girl such as yourself get into a group like this?” She hesitated for a moment, and then replied, “I first thought it to be a gruesome tale, but after knowing firsthand how yours went, it seems to be more of a simple sob story.” The boy slowly moved closer towards her, to the point where they were sitting side by side. The firewood crackled and popped, as the sound of animals running through the forest echoed. “Well then I might just cry, and so I ask you to keep it a secret from the rest. A little secret just between you and me." The arrogant Kururai smiled and winked at the blushing girl beside him.
“Okay then, I promise”, she said, and continued. “I lived in the small town of Bakersville, and of course, it was famous for its bakers. Many well trained cooks were raised there. I came from a family of butchers. Since most people baked, we were plentiful in wealth, because we were one of the only people who owned a meat shop. Sadly, my mother was weak at the sight or even the stench of blood. This made things difficult for my father. She constantly complained, despite all that my father did to help. One time, he even drained the blood from the meat completely before returning to the store to sell. This took out the flavor sometimes, and for that we received many complaints. My father did not come from a family of saints. Some of them were even sadists. He was a lucky one, in his family of violence. He kept composure when something angered him. Eventually, after 12 years of dealing with the hardships, he lost it. My father cut up his beloved wife to pieces. After a while, I found out and he tried to kill me. I had no choice but to defend myself. I mercilessly swung around a large knife, leaving several marks on him. I had the intention of killing him; however I did not have a body capable of carrying out such thoughts. That's when I met Burama. He was sent to kill my father, because somebody found out that my mother was murdered. He found me doing half of the job for him, and eventually ended my father's life. He had hope in me, seeing as a little girl was able to cut up a large, grown man so dreadfully. That was about a year ago. I've been trained by Burama and his friends ever since. They're the ones who gave me this Reaper in the first place.”
Kururai had a typical reaction. Slightly surprised, they boy asked, “Wait, so you're younger than me?” Yokairi was just as puzzled as he was. “That’s what you got from the story?” She chuckled, “You really do have a screw loose, aha! By the way, how did you get so good at combat?” Kururai's face went blank. The young girl knew that she had hit a nerve, but was prepared for whatever would happen next. Or at least, she thought she was prepared.
Kururai swung his enormous broadsword at her head. Yokairi, being trained as an assassin, dodged of course. The blade swept right over her head, making a squished noise. The girl was surprised to see that the weapon was stuck deep inside a beast’s stomach. The monster roared in pain, signaling its pack to attack. As expected, the child went into “demon-mode”. He ran towards the pack of monsters coming. Yokairi simply stood there, Kurosae in hand, prepared to spill blood. She just stared at the boy, ravaging through the bodies of beasts without emotion. Such precision and elegance. It's like he's in his own world.
Yokairi saw the eyes of Kururai turn towards her. She was surprised to see his face turn from blank, to scared. “BEHIND YOU!” The girl turned and was confronted by a giant C Class Dragon, the Wyvern. A C Class may not sound so dangerous, but in the category of dragons, second to Celestial Beings, even a class D would be frightening to even look at. What surprised her even more was the sight of Kururai jumping in front of her as the talons of the dragon swept down, cutting the boys front, from chest to abdomen. He was pushed back, along with Yokairi, and fell to the ground. The boy quickly jumped up, and ran towards the Wyvern. Without hesitation, he swung the broadsword around in a 360, his body turning as well, and sliced the dragon's neck. This of course was not enough to defeat the C Class monster. Yokairi ran towards the Wyvern, managing a cut on the dragon’s right shoulder.
The poison worked quickly, even on such a large monster. Within a minute, the flying serpent, hit the ground, as well as Kururai. Luckily, the pack of beasts that originally attacked them left. Kururai saw Yokairi quickly running towards his body which lay on the ground, as his vision slowly faded.
He awoke, noticing Yokairi directly over him, wearing a face wet from tears. He attempted to get up, but was pushed back down on to her lap. He smiled, “Crying and letting someone use your lap as a pillow? You're not exactly acting yourself you know?” The girl's face suddenly went from sad to relieved, “Just shut up and rest.”
“How can I rest when a beautiful girl is right in front of me, tearing up? I know, how about I share another secret with you.” Yokairi's blushing was nearly unnoticeable from all the tears that ran down her cheek. “Okay, fine, tell me another secret.”
“When I was little, my father told me about what happened to me when I was a baby. Apparently, on the night of my birth, a bunch of thieves raided my house. They entered the master bedroom, where my mother carried me in her arms. They attempted to steal me, most likely for ransom. The guards in my house weren't going to let that happen, so they attacked the thieves. One of them got near enough to my mother, to the point that they could reach for my leg. My mother attempted to protect me, and lost her life. The thief swung a club at her and hit me in the head. It killed my nervous system, which is why I don't feel pain. Also, the hit affected a part of my brain, so instead, when I feel sad, scared, or angry, I am calm. This is why I go into what you guys call, ‘demon-mode’ when I fight.”
Yokairi then pointed out, “You looked pretty scared when you noticed the Wyvern behind me though.”
“I do not have an explanation for that,” Kururai replied, “However, now that you know this secret, you must die.” The girl laughed, “And how do you suppose that will happen, especially in your current state?” “Demon” replied in a similar manner. He first laughed, and then spoke, “Well I have a proposition. Instead of having to kill you, how about you enter a position where you would not tell?”
“Oh? So you mean blackmail?”
“Not exactly.” Kururai lifted his head from her lap and kissed her.
Chapter 6 Return
One week later, they finally arrived at the base of the assassins. Kururai noticed Yokairi slightly jittery. In an attempt to comfort her, the boy said, “Relax, it's not like they're going to find out what happened last week. They were sleeping. I'm certain.” The two teens kept the fact that they were together a secret from the rest of the group. Also the attack from the beasts and dragon, and to do that they heavily concealed the large scar left on Kururai's front. Yokairi turned to her new lover, “That’s not what I'm worried about. I worried about what we'll find at the hideout.” The boy had a puzzled look on his face. He did not understand what she meant. “I guess we'll have to deal with it when we get there!” He simply smiled at her, which already relieved most of her anxiety. She smiled back, “Okay.”
They finally reached the foot of the base. Kururai was clueless as to where the entrance was. Burama stepped closer to the lost boy. “We’re a group of assassins; wouldn't it make sense that our base was concealed?” The proclaimed demon child thought about it and laughed. “Haha, yeah, you're right. I feel pretty dumb right now.”
The boy witnessed quite an amazing sight that day. Burama went behind a sort of rock, and suddenly, millions of sounds rang about. In front of Kururai, a doorway showed. Yokairi walked to his side. “One of the reapers we have has the ability to conceal things, for example, an entire hideout.” The two children opened the door, and walked through. At that moment, Kururai knew exactly why Yokairi was nervous.
At least a dozen eyes turned towards him. All at once, squeals echoed throughout the room, as about 6 girls, approximately fifteen to twenty-four years of age, according to Kururai's predictions, ran towards him. Several voices went about, “Oh my gosh he's so cute!” “He's so small I just wanna eat him up!” “I feel like just putting him on my shelf in my room!” Burama and the rest just chuckled and winked at Yokairi. “Looks like your man is getting taken away! Haha!” The girl looked up at the assassin's face. “How did you-”. He cut her off and spoke, “As if we didn't know!” He cleared his throat and heightened his voice at an attempt to match Kururai's. “Instead, be my girlfriend! HAHA! Too funny!” Yokairi left halfway through his act and ran for her boyfriend. “HANDS OFF.” She dodged every woman around the boy, and eventually grabbed his hand, pulling him towards an entirely different room in the hideout.
Kururai smiled at his girlfriend. “Do I perhaps sense jealousy?” Yokairi slowly started to turn red. “No... Shut up... Anyways, you were enjoying it weren't you!” The young man's smile turned into a frown instantly. “Uh... no.”
Yokairi looked odd but excited. As she the girl said, “I know how you can make it up to me. Take me on a date, there’s a town nearby.” The boy smiled back and laughed, “You’re really girly on the inside huh? A month ago you stabbed me in the shoulder with a poisoned blade and called me a dog.” The young girl turned around, folded her arms and started to slowly walk away while saying, “You know, I can still treat you like a dog and have you sleep outside if you keep making fun of me.” She turned her head to Kururai, winked, and continued walking towards the room they originally entered. The boy’s face turned from joking to serious quite fast. “Haha, that’s funny. You’re kidding… right? Kairi?”
The boy followed right after her and finally got a good look at the room, since he originally didn’t have a chance to do so, due to “certain” circumstances. At the entrance there was a bar directly to the right. Chandeliers hung all around, and assorted couches, chairs, and stools were all around. Burama approached Kururai from behind and patted him on the head. “So Demon, when are you gonna tell us what happened between you and Yokairi?” Suddenly, Kururai's expression went blank, his pupils became huge, as he grabbed his weapons. He looked up at Burama and said, “Now's not the time. We have visitors from outside.”
Kururai went for the door but was blocked by his girlfriend. “You're not thinking of going out alone are you?” All of a sudden a blade flew at the boy. Of course, he was thinking of dodging, however if he did Yokairi would have been hit. Instead, he turned around and let the blade stab his left forearm.
“Who are you?” A face emerged from the shadows. She was tall, with silver short hair, carrying a dagger matching the one in the boy's arm. “ Don't even think about attacking me. That blade that stabbed you is a reaper. Bloody Mary. It ensures that if it the blade comes into direct contact with someone, they bleed. It will cut anyone that touches it. So who are you?” Kururai started walking to the woman, “ You said that it'll make me bleed. Will it ensure that I die?” The boy went into what his comrades called demon-mode once again. His bare hand touched to blade of the dagger, and pulled it out, making not only his left forearm, but his right hand as well, gush out blood.
He dropped the dagger on the floor and walked for the door. “ Kairi, let's go.” The mysterious woman yelled out, “Where do you think you're going?” Kururai turned around and said, “I'm going outside while you guys stay inside. I'm gonna save all your asses.”
Kururai and Yokairi stood outside waiting for the approaching group of people, who were about to be victims to their blades. Kururai was shocked to see a familiar face amongst them. The girl asked him, “ You look pale. What's wrong?” The boy smiled, but it wasn't his usual innocent smile. It was more of a evil smirk. The face of demon. He replied to his new lover, “I know who's here. My beloved older sister.”
Chapter 7 Kinship
At least a dozen men approached the hideout on assorted mounts. They were led by a female, who Kururai believed to be his sister. They all dismounted, and walked towards the two standing outside their base. The female looked surprised and suddenly ran towards the children. “ Kuru? It is you!” Yokairi was looking at the approaching woman, and then stared at the boy beside her. Kururai turned to her and said, “ Wait here.”
The boy's expression suddenly turned innocent. He ran towards the approaching person, “ May! May it's you!” The two hugged each other quite suddenly. The woman staggered after embracing the boy. Kururai whispered, “May. Do you know about all the things our father did in the shed?” May backed away, a sword (specifically Leon, a reaper he took from a man he killed back in his own village) sticking out of her stomach. Blood withdrew, spraying violently onto the ground. The red liquid leaked from her mouth as well. A crimson smile appeared, as May knelt. They boy heard men talking behind her, “That idiot's about to be killed”.
“You weren't suppose to know. Then again, I guess it was inevitable,” The Kururai's sister squinted her eyes at what was on his back. “Oh, is that another reaper? Oh my goodness, it's true! Haha! You have two reapers! Oh my.. All those stories about you being.. So it was all true? This is too funny!” Of course, the boy was confused. “What do you mean?” May stopped laughing and looked at her brother with sharp eyes. “Wait...You don't know? You seriously don't know? You're basically an organic reaper! You are a living, breathing, reaper! Or at least that's what I heard, but seeing as you are able to wield more than one reaper, and a person can only hold one reaper, you must not be a person!”
Kururai became still. May, noticing this, seized the opportunity, and leaped at her brother while pulling a dagger from her thigh. As she swung her arm towards him, there was a clash of metal. Yokairi was suddenly right in between the two siblings, defending the boy. Her katana was sheathed, and in a horizontal position. She pushed back May, and ran forward, giving swings left and right. Several slashes hit the woman, but May never once backed down. After at least 5 volleys of slashes, the two stopped trading blows. Yokairi began to speak, “How do you still stand?” May smiled. “Who ever said all reapers were in the form of a weapon?” This sentence distracted the young girl, which would cost her the ability to fight.
May held her dagger high, and swiped down, cutting several of Yokairi's tendons. Yokairi, now unable to stand, attempted to slowly crawl back, however the boy's sister would not let her make it easy.
