The Quincy
Sun Nov 11, 2012 8:55 pm
The Quincy (滅却師 (クインシー), Kuinshī; lit. "Monk of Destruction") in modern terms, they were Human mediums, having the ability to detect the existence of Hollows. It all started when they began to training to confront them in order to defeat Hollows, the same as Shinigami do. Most of the Quincy were destroyed by the Shinigami many years ago in order to prevent the destruction of the world.
Quincy are spiritually aware humans able to absorb and manipulate Reishi into spiritual weapons.
Reishi Absorption: Although Shingiami and Quincy both use Reiryoku when fighting, they both have a totally opposite fighting style. Shinigami use the spiritual power created from their soul in conjunction with a Zanpakutō to fight against the Hollows. You can say they fight using the power within. On the contrary, a Quincy uses the Reishi in the atmosphere, and combines it with his/her Reiryoku to create weapons. They fight using the power outside. They have an easier time collecting this energy in environments with higher concentrations of spiritual particles such as in Soul Society or Hueco Mundo. To a sufficiently powerful Quincy, there is no difference between spiritual particles and spiritual energy as a source of power. Depending reishi control, a Quincy is never hinder when spiritual particles are disabled, as on higher levels such as Grandmaster, they can use any energy, from chaos, demonic and even nature. But only a few Quincys are able to use any form of energy as weapons, as this takes many years of training and control to even master it, let alone become a grandmaster.
Spirit Weapon: The weapon that Quincies create by gathering the reishi in the air. The only limit to a Quincy's ability to create and fire arrows is their own stamina and ability to absorb ambient reishi.
The Quincy's unique spirit weapon, Kojaku, is formed by gathering Reishi in the Quincy Cross on the right hand. The arrows that it releases are also made of reishi. It can destroy Hollows in long-range attacks A Quincy uses the reishi in the atmosphere, Reishi, in conjunction with his/her power to form weapons. By using their ability to gather reishi, a Quincy can then form that into a multitude of weapons with the aid of their Quincy cross. Spirit Weapons, like Zanpakutō, are also capable of harming Hollows, which was their intended purpose. However, Spirit Weapons destroy Hollows completely rather than purifying them.
The only limits to the power of a Quincy's Spirit Weapon are the user's stamina and spiritual power.
Quincy Cross: A cross/pentacle pendant, the Quincy Cross acts as a focal point for the Quincy.
Reishi Environment: without an environment that has substantial or higher amounts of spiritual particles, spirit weapons cannot be formed. However depending on one’s own reshi control, some Quincy can create powerful bows, or weapons with little amount of reishi in the area. The Quincy Bangle was created specifically for this purpose, though it does not fully overcome the Quincy's own lack of power.
Ginrei Kojaku: A new bow composed of reishi encircling the Quincy cross. Can simultaneously fire up to 1200 arrows. Most Modern quincys use this as a weapon.
Above-Average Spiritual Power: A Quincy must have sufficient spirit energy to create a bow, and will not be able to unless their power increases. Uryū Ishida, his father and grandfather are either geniuses or masters in the abilities of the Quincy, so they would not normally have this problem.
Every bow has an appearance unique to its owner, but seemingly only once they've developed more power. Standard Quincy archers from the past were seen using bows almost identical to Kojaku. Uryū starts out using his blue energy bow, Lone Sparrow, but as the story progresses gains a new spider-web looking bow, Lone Sparrow on a Silver Cliff. This was caused by his increase in power, not the change in his Quincy cross, as the bow Uryū had using the Quincy Bangle was still similar to his previous while wearing the Sanrei Glove. Ryūken Ishida's bow takes a more physical and metallic appearance, somewhat similar to his son's second bow.
The final point of contrast between the Quincy and Shinigami is their respective choice of uniform. While the Shinigami wear traditional, black, flowing hakama, the Quincy wear white, form-fitting, high-collared tunics. These bear some resemblance both to Mandarin Chinese dress and to cassocks of Catholic priests. This gives the Quincy a distinctly "foreign" or "Western" style compared to the Shinigami. One peculiar recurring motif of Quincy is that of a cross, which appears frequently on their uniforms and artifacts. The cross is not the same shape among all Quincy (e.g. Uryū uses a Celtic cross, while Ryūken uses a pentacle). There is also a six-pointed cross that appears on the back of Uryū's Quincy tunic. The differences between Quincy and Shinigami in costume and iconography are minor compared to the differences in weaponry and ideology.

History
The Quincy were scattered all over the world at one time. They were relatives of magic hunters who specialized in the war against Hollows.
Since the origin of the Quincy, many years passed within Soul Society trying to appeal to the Quincy that the handling of Hollows should be left to the Shinigami. The Quincy refused to accept the situation. As time went on, the number of Quincy increased and the cycle of souls became more unstable, forcing the Shinigami to reluctantly wipe out the Quincy in order to maintain the balance of the world.
The Quincy line was closely monitored over the decades, as their numbers continued to dwindle. Later the Quincy advanced the idea that since they were already among the living and still more numerous at the time, they could act as "first responders" to Hollow attacks; protecting Humans until the less-numerous Shinigami could send a representative to finish the Hollow off. Embittered by the recent war, the Shinigami refused to participate, opting instead to allocate their limited resources to reacting to the most dangerous Hollows and current Hollow attacks. This caused great enmity towards Shinigami by Uryū Ishida, Ichigo's classmate and a Quincy, whose grandfather, the last advocate of the Quincy plan, had been slain by a team of Hollows before the Shinigami could arrive.

Danger To the Balance
Shinigami govern the souls between the Human World and Soul Society, which maintains a balance that if not kept would result in the mutual destruction of both worlds. All souls, including Hollows, are subject to the Shinigami governance of maintaining the balance. Quincy completely extinguish Hollows. Thus the souls that come to the Human World do not return to Soul Society and therefore the souls would increase only on the side of the Human World. Meaning, the Human World becomes heavy in souls causing Soul Society to spill over into it; mixing life and death. The ultimate result would be the end of the world. This was the reason they needed to be wiped out however some Quincy survived and lived on. While the current number of Quincy in this age are few, the known Quincy are watched to make sure no threat to the balance happens.

Quincy Combat
Reishi Control: Much like original powers that are different to each and every Quincy. For example one has the power to change form and gain the ability and appearance to fight his target, while other that can change his appearance, but only is able to copy his target memory and personalty. One own control over reishi can also account for how many arrows they can fire at once, as well how much Reishi they can use at once, also controls there use of Hirenkyaku. The more powerful a Quincy is in this trait, the more powerful there arrows and ability are. Original powers created from reishi control are known as "Zet to". Ziamchi Quincylostthe use of "Zetto"
Shadows: Using "Shadows", A Quincy can disappear and use a form of teleportation that allows them to quickly leave a place, reappearing almost instantly in another. However, this skill was thought to be limited to those of the old style Quincy. However Modern age Quincy are known to be able to perform this.
Ensnaring Device: In basic terms it is an object used to steal a Shinigami's Bankai, but it can be used on more beings than that. These Items are used mainly by the Quincy, these were made in the late Quincy war, but never saw the light of day, only a few known families and modern Quincy knew of this. While there are a limited number of unused ones hidden around the world, there exist plenty of pre-stolen Bankai’s. The look of the device is simple and can look like any other item as look it has a disk like shape. It stores the stolen bankai and the Zanpakutō spirit into a very powerful seal, and once trapped it can never get out unless both the seal and the Zanpakutō spirit are destroyed at once. Due to the nature of balance on the site, people have to two approvals from either a admin or advisers for pre-stolen Bankai. However, it is not limited to just Shinigami. Any race with forms (save for Arrancar) can have their final form stolen.
Archery: is the most used form of combat among the Quincy. Since they're still human, maintaining a distance from highly dangerous Hollows as well as launching numerous attacks on multiple opponents gives them a great advantage offensively and defensively. There are cases when a Quincy uses blade over a bow.
Heilig Pfeil (Holy Arrows) are the primary attack used by Quincy. It is basically the same as an average arrow, but if the arrows are shot continuously they will eventually injure the wielders hands. The arrows can be created by collecting Reishi, absorbing Reiryoku from an opponent or gathering spirit energy, giving the Quincy many ways to form their bow and arrow. The power of the arrows vary in power and size, while some arrows are more powerful than others, for every quincy it is different, and normally comes down to skill, since the total amount of Arrow’s fired also showcases the amount of skill, while those who use only a few arrows at a time have more of a impact than others. Depending on what one spirit weapon is, the Arrow shape can change, as if one was a blade, then the arrows fired would appear as blades.
Marksmanship: When a Quincy becomes more skilled using their Bow and Heilig Pfeil, they gain more power and precision with their arrows. This is similar to how a marksman gains skill, and hits the target more frequently. Uryū Ishida has increased his power and skill much throughout the series, and is a prime example of this. In the beginning, he showed great accuracy, able to kill Hollows instantly using one arrow. During the Soul Society Arc, he fought Jirōbō Ikkanzaka, another projectile-type user, and easily defeats him. After defeating him, Uryū fires two arrows through his soul chain and soul sleep, to keep him from ever harming anyone again (he attempted to attack Orihime Inoue). This still does not compare to his father's, Ryūken Ishida, who can fire two arrows at the same time in two separate directions, killing their targets instantly, one-handed. Even some modern Quincy’s create their own use of marksmanship
Quantity: Currently, arrows that are smaller in size, but pack the same amount of power as larger arrows, as some Quincy can even fire a total of 1,200 arrows in succession without stopping. This also showcases one reshi control, as this can affect one power of arrows as well numbers.
Path Control: When Uryū fought Cirucci Sanderwicci in Las Noches, he was able to curve his arrows' path after firing them, putting stress on the former Espada. This effectively makes the Quincy's Heilig Pfeil miniature heat-seeking missiles, but instead of locking on to heat, they target whatever enemy they have. It is unknown how long Uryū can control the arrow's path, or if there is a limit to how many can be under his control. So far he has only fired 3 simultaneously using this method. This also is affected by reshi control and marksmanship, the stronger one skill with it, than the longer they can stay on target, even when fighting those with high speed.
Negation of Attacks: If a quincy can use these arrows precisely, they can to a point they can negate another attack on impact. To do this, the charges the arrows with a sufficient amount of power, and fires them to strike an incoming projectile. However because of morden Quincy style’s, this use has fallen out of use, however a few old style Quincy still use this a thump.
Spiritual Awareness: As a spiritual being, the Quincy can sense Hollows and other spiritual beings at a significant distance or tell in what direction they are in. Quincys are well known to sense the distance to any hollow, and capable of telling how much spiritual power a person has from a simple glance, making them living radars, only a small handful of beings are capable of not being able to appear to a Quincy.
Gintō: A capsule-shaped tool used by Quincies to store their spiritual energy. It is an antiquated tool, but the use of it allows Quincies to perform certain techniques. More Info Shall be in Tech's.
Hirenkyaku: An advanced Quincy moving technique. It allows for high speed movements by riding on the flow of reishi created below the user's feet. To perform the technique, the user gathers spiritual particles under their feet and rides them to the desired location. Like the air-walking skill displayed by most Arrancar and Shinigami, it can also be used to hover or fly for long distances. Mayuri compliments Uryū on being able to use this technique at such a young age, suggesting that it is difficult to master. Hirenkyaku enables Quincies to keep up with, and overpower faster opponents depending on the user's skill. The use of this technique aided Uryū as he defeated a seated Shinigami officer, a Números Arrancar, and even a Privaron Espada in combat. However, there is apparently more use for the technique than simply moving quickly. Upon entering Hueco Mundo through the Garganta, Ichigo Kurosaki and Chad noticed that Uryū apparently had a platform of reishi under his feet. Ichigo and Sado had trouble controlling their reiatsu on the path they were given, while he used an instance of Hirenkyaku in order to make his own individual platform. Later on Uryū used the technique to elevate himself and Orihime Inoue through the hole Ulquiorra Cifer created in the artificial sky, and above the dome of Las Noches. He reveals that he only recently realized he could use the technique outside Garganta, and in Hueco Mundo itself, halfway to Las Noches. He also laments the fact that if he had known sooner, he might have been of some use on the battlefield. It is currently unknown if Ishida, or any other Quincy, can use this variation of Hirenkyaku outside of Hueco Mundo, within Soul Society, or the Human World. Depending on one skill with it, can show how long they can use this before tiring out.
To go with their bow, the Quincy have a number of rare special techniques to give them an edge in combat:
Blut (血装 (ブルート), burūto; German for "Blood", Japanese for "Blood Guise") is an advanced Quincy technique that grants one inhuman defensive and offensive capabilities.By making reishi flow directly into their blood vessels, a user of this technique is able to drastically increase their attack and defense power. However, despite the significant danger this potentially presents to one's opponents, Blut possesses one major flaw in that the independent forms of the technique for attack and defense operate using two different reishi systems, meaning they cannot be employed simultaneously or else they suffer all their veins bursting at once, killing them instantly. However some are able to use both at once but not for short periods of time, as they start to burst their veins. This is a pure blood Quincy ability, Quincys that are fused with a Ziamchi are unable to use this.
Blut Vene (静血装 (ブルート・ヴェーネ), burūto vēne; German for "Blood Vein", Japanese for "Stilled Blood Guise") The defensive form of Blut that grants the user inhuman durability, represented by a faint pattern tracing the veins beneath the surface of their skin, which is only visible on the afflicted area when struck. If consciously kept at full power, even attacks delivered by a Shinigami's Bankai can potentially be negated completely. However, despite the considerable defense afforded by this technique, it seemingly isn't absolute and can be torn using sufficient power. As overtime the defense shall be worn down due to the nature of Blut Vene. This massive defense also has time limits, depending on the level of skill with this, it can vary to short periods of time, to lengthy amount, but they need periods of rest which can be risky if they are fighting a foe that can attack rapidly.
Blut Arterie (動血装 (ブルート・アルテリエ), burūto aruterie; German for "Blood Artery", Japanese for "Moving Blood Guise") The offensive form of Blut that grants the user inhuman attack power. This technique is the only thing capable of ensuring that a Quincy's attacks are able to significantly damage a Bankai-wielding Shinigami. One notable use of this is applying it towards physical attacks as well as coating it on there own arrows to increase the damage output to that of a Bankai wielding captain. This is a vary powerful skill that shouldn't be taken lightly .
Ransōtengai (乱装天傀; lit. "heavenly wild puppet suit", "disheveled paradise puppet" in the Viz translation): This is a high level technique that allows the user to control their body parts using strings of spirit energy controlled by their brain, forming lines or strings out of countless reishi. By using this technique, the user can control their body as one would a puppet, allowing them to move freely despite paralysis, broken limbs, or any other force that would impede normal movement. It was originally created to allow elderly Quincy to fight effectively, and is rare enough that Mayuri had never encountered a Quincy (out of the 2661 that he examined or studied) who could use it before Uryū. Mayuri stated it as "the most powerful technique for the Quincy," but he did not know of the Quincy: Letzt Stil, which means as far as Mayuri knew it was the strongest.
Quincy: Letzt Stil (滅却師最終形態(クインシー・レツトシュティール), Kuinshī Retsutoshutīru; Japanese for "destruction sage: final form, Quincy", German for "last style", Viz Media Translation, "Letz Stile"): is the last resort for a Quincy reached after removing the Sanrei Glove. It gives the user a tremendous amount of power, but at the price of loss of their powers upon its completion. But it has been shown possible to restore one power after this tragic loss. The only way for a Quincy to regain their powers after using the Quincy: Letzt Stil is to first exhaust themselves both mentally and physically, then be hit exactly 19 mm to the right of their heart with a spirit arrow. After this, a pentacle-shaped scar will form on the point of impact, and their powers will be restored, this can be repeated many times as long as the person can withstand it.
Quincy: Vollständig (滅却師完聖体 (クインシー・フォルシュテンディッヒ), Kuinshī Forushutendihhi; German for "Quincy: Complete", Japanese for "Monk of Destruction: Complete Holy Form"): The Quincy: Vollständig is the last resort for a Quincy using the special device to initiate the ability. The ability is a part of Quincy evolution and is the answer to the drawbacks of the outdated Quincy: Letzt Stil. This was created at the end of the Quincy war but was never used much like the Ensnaring device. The Quincy: Letzt Stil in comparison to the Quincy: Vollständig is entirely different. Quincy: Letzt Stil is a "relic of the past." As its very notion died out to every Quincy in the war around 500 years ago due to its fragility. Therefore the Quincy: Letzt Stil and the Quincy: Vollständig are as different as heaven and earth. Thus the Quincy: Letzt Stil is an obsolete technique to the Quincy that can wield and handle its power. To begin this form is the pinnacle of a quincy powers, however it takes many years to even unlock, and many more to even master it fully. This power thus is rather rare for some modern Quincy to even know about this. Besides a boost in power beyond what Quincy: Letzt Stil grants in fact it dwarfs its Quincy: Letzt Stil by tenfold at its lowest point. For every Quincy that has this, every form and design varies greatly. As well granting some Quincy’s. This is a pure blood Quincy ability, Quincys that are fused with a Ziamchi are unable to use this. As such not many know about its existence.
The Quincy possess numerous artifacts and equipment which help them in different ways.
Hollow Bait: This item is a small, coin-shaped disk that attracts Hollows when crushed. When used by Uryū, the bait, in combination with Ichigo's powerful spiritual pressure, was able to draw a Gillian-class Menos out of Hueco Mundo.
Quincy Bangle (装身具, sōshingu; lit. "Accessory"): The Quincy Bangle is an artifact designed to mimic a Quincy's natural powers. It works by drawing in reishi from the environment, much like a Quincy does regularly. It can only be used properly by those who are already adept at forming and directing reishi.
Quincy Cross (滅却十字, mekkyaku jūji; lit. "Destruction Cross"): A cross in the shape of a Quincy Zeichen that only those who have inherited Quincy abilities and techniques are allowed to possess. Only those that have achieved the powers of a Quincy may possess it. Standard equipment for any Quincy, the Quincy Cross acts as the focus for a Quincy bow. The cross need not necessarily be in a cross shape, as Ryūken's cross is a pentacle. Uryū's first Quincy cross took the shape of a cross.
Sanrei Glove (散霊手套, sanrei shutō): This is a powerful Quincy artifact that can increase a Quincy's power exponentially, but requires a dangerous and exhausting type of resistance training by wearing it for a week while constantly firing spiritual arrows to master. The glove works by scattering the reishi in the surrounding area, making it much harder to form a working bow.
Seele Schneider (魂を切り裂くもの (ゼーレシュナイダー), Zēreshunaidā; German for "Soul Cutter", Japanese for "That Which Slits the Soul"): The Seele Schneider is a thin sword that can be fired similarly to an arrow. It's much longer than a standard arrow and functions something like a chainsaw: the reishi of its blade vibrate at ultra-high frequencies, loosening the molecular bonds between any spirit matter it cuts so that the Quincy user may easily absorb the freed reishi.

The Gintō Techniques
Heizen (聖噬 [ハイゼン], haizen; German for "Heating", Japanese for "Sacred Bite") Heizen instantly gouges and purges whatever is enclosed in the space within the four tossed gintōs. It is tremendously effective even against Menos Grandes. This technique creates a transparent, rectangular beam of energy from the silver tubes which then slices through the opponent. It is activated by the command: "Feel the wrath of battle and accept this sacred chalice - Heizen!"(大気の戦陣を杯に受けよ)
Gritz (五架縛 [グリツ], gurittsu; Japanese for "Five Rack Ties") A film of Reishi emitted from a thrown Ginto surrounds the enemy. This technique forms a man-sized pentagonal Quincy cross which envelops its target. It is activated by the command: "A silver rod strikes the five-fingered stone bed - Gritz!" (銀鞭下りて五手石床に堕つ)
Wolke (緑杯 [ヴォルコル], vorukōru; German for "Cloud", Japanese for "Green Cup") Cushioning the impact of a fall with Reiryoku contained inside a Ginto. This technique uses a silver tube to create a large blast. It is activated by the command: "Tilt the goblet to the west - Wolke!" (盃よ西方に傾け)
Sprenger (破芒陣 [シュプレンガ], shupurenga; German for "Explosion", Japanese for "Ripping Grass Formation") This technique uses five Seele Schneiders to create a pentagon-shaped seal which, when activated, causes a massive explosion within its borders. When an object or a person stands within the middle of the Pentagon the placement of the fifth Seele Schneider can trap them by wrapping and binding their legs to the ground with dense reishi. The Seele Schneiders function as accumulators, gathering the necessary amount of reishi to create the explosion. The liquid inside a silver tube acts as the trigger. The preparations for the technique combined with the charging time for the Seele Schneiders make its use in battle impractical unless the user has a partner that can stall to buy time, or has enough strength to create the formation while under attack.
Granate (lit. Grenade in German): A technique where the reiatsu stored in the Gintō is used to cause a large blast; much like a grenade. To activate it, one must add a drop of their own reiatsu to the Gintō, as well as say the command "Feel the blast with your soul, Granate." To explode, the Gintō must be tossed at the opponent, and will explode when it is close enough to a source of reiatsu or when it comes into contact with any surface.
Einweben (lit. Webbing in German): As suggested by its name, Einweben is a binding Gintō technique. It creates a large, man-sized energy web that is useful for either trapping or deterring an opponent. It is activated by the command "The silver strands bind you to your place, Einweben." This technique can either be used up close or by throwing the Gintō at the opponent.
Licht Regen: First more Reishi than usual are stored inside the bow, before the Quincy uses Hirenkyaku to get over the enemy, and release a barrage of arrows at once. The number of Arrows depends on the kind of bow used.
Quincy are spiritually aware humans able to absorb and manipulate Reishi into spiritual weapons.
Reishi Absorption: Although Shingiami and Quincy both use Reiryoku when fighting, they both have a totally opposite fighting style.
- Complete Reishi Dominance: Which gives one the capability of absorbing a large amount of Reishi at the tip of his/her spirit weapon to use in a powerful attack. In this form, a Quincy's absorption of reishi has exponentially increased. He/She is capable of absorbing the trees, sand, rocks, and even the buildings in Hueco Mundo or Soul Society, as well as most energy attacks, but this skill depends greatly on one’s reishi control.
Spirit Weapon: A Quincy can produce a spirit weapon made entirely of reishi from the gauntlet on his/her left/right wrist. He/She can use this weapon for both melee attacks and to fire their. Quincy arrows.
Enhanced Spiritual Awareness: A Quincy is capable of sensing to a far greater level, allowing them to surpass any ability that would hides one's presence if he/she is more powerful than the opponent in question.
Enhanced damage and defense output: Much like Blut Vene and Blut Arterie, The Quincy in this form have their powers at their very peek, so this factor varies on the Quincy in question.
