Amaya Hawke [Approved; 2-3+]
Sun Aug 19, 2012 11:33 am
Name: Amaya Hawke
Titles: Paperwork Gremlin
Gender: Male
Appearance Age: 18
Age: 418
Affiliation/Rank: Gotei 13
Appearance Description: Amaya stands out. Perhaps it's the long silky pink hair or the smooth pale skin. Maybe it's the big blue eyes framed with thick lashes that seem to see everything around them. Amaya isn't tall nor is Amaya short, a perfectly respectable height of 5'5'' Amaya stands about even with most of the population. There is presence about Amaya, bright, airy, and almost whimsical. There is beauty and a sense of natural elegance, which undoubtedly draws attention to Amaya.
It's particularly difficult to spot the fact that Amaya is biologically male. He doesn't dress in men's clothing if there is any way shape or form he can get out of it. He looks decidedly awkward in it, a shifting sort of unease because for all intents and purposes Amaya doesn't consider himself to be a man. Very few people who know Amaya would considered the pink haired beauty to be male, even when they are aware of Amaya's physical gender.
When not in the traditional shinigami gear Amaya can be seen in a variety of bright colors. Dresses and skirts, kimonos and yutakas make up most of his downtime clothing. He wears what makes him feel comfortable and pretty, refusing to bend to anyone's sense of 'appropriate attire for a man' with the sole exception of when his Taichou or close friends specifically requests him to wear a specific outfit. Then Amaya wears a man's clothes and looks completly out of place in it.

Personality: Amaya does not act like a man. This is important when dealing with him. He prefers to be referred to as a woman but he won't ignore you or bitch if you refer to him as a man. At this point in his existence he simply lets individuals choose how they wish to refer to him as. He fluctuates in pronouns and dialogue, sometimes straying towards masculine but usually staying firmly in the feminine category. In his view he is neither gender entirely, more feminine than masculine but not entirely female either.
Amaya is cheerful. Not an over the top shove it down someone's throat oh god are they medicated sort of cheerful. It's more of a genuine sunny smile or an unrestrained giggle. It's the sweet natured silliness that surrounds him. He doesn't mind playing a fool for someone else's benefit, to cheer them up or distract them from something upsetting them. In fact there's a general consensus that Amaya might not be the brightest crayon in the box.
It's an image that Amaya's carefully cultivated. He doesn't mind letting people think he's a bit air headed. That he isn't observant or clever. It's not a perfect mask, most of his teachers at the shinigami academy are well aware of Amaya's capabilities, and those who he's worked with for a great length of time figure it out. It's just a wall to help protect him from others, he's figured out that if others don't think you know what is going on then they're less likely to try and hurt you.
The one thing that most people don't recognize about Amaya is that he is very stubborn. Not just mildly stubborn, not just kinda stubborn, he is really really stubborn. Now he does wrap it up nicely and make it more palatable for others to deal with. He doesn't force his will on everyone and his ability to pick and choose battles is the velvet glove covering his iron fist. Once you get to a battle he wants to fight, he might lose it but he will make you pay for that victory. He refuses to bend to a 'proper' gender role. He refused in life and he's had a little over four centuries worth of death of continuous refusal. It isn't a game nor is it phase, he is who he is and he refuses to let anyone try to compromise who he is. He has been beaten more times than he can count because of this and he refuses to change. He knows that pretending would be easier, that falling into societal norms would make a great deal of strife in his life stop. But he won't, because he won't lie to himself and he won't bend to someone else's will when what he is wearing and refers to himself as is doing nothing to cause catastrophic harm to someone else. And while Amaya compromises with others on so many things, once you hit one of the clearly marked lines of demarcation he won't budge or even think of negotiating and will simply outstubborn a lot of people.
While a majority of people view Amaya as being a little ditzy airhead, he is very diligent. He stays up late a night to continue his studies, frequenting the library to borrow books, or even going back to the academy to ask his former teachers questions to things he can't figure out. He trains regularly, though usually by himself because despite his position he is shy about asking others to help him even if on the flip side he doesn't mind training with others to help them.
One of his biggest weaknesses would likely be trying to deal with anything more technologically advanced than old school laptops and computers. If it's broken don't take it to Amaya to get fixed. He could make you a gourmet meal, patch up the holes in your shinigami uniform, knit you a hat, help color coordinate your wardrobe, decorate your room, figure out how to correctly fill out some of the most headache inducing forms, but try and fix any of today's tech and a genuine panicked deer in headlights stare will come forth. If you want your tech completely and utterly destroyed ask Amaya to try and fix it and it will become even more irreparably damaged or transform into some sort of mutant tech. Needless to say Amaya stays far far far away from the 12 Division.
Actually Division 12 could probably be considered one of Amaya's nightmares given form. Amaya has a mild phobia of medical needles and ivs. His reactions towards them range from being visibly disturbed to outright flailing panic. Combine that with his particular talents of being utterly confused by most of the technological advances in the past 400 years or so and Amaya is pretty much afraid to breath in the wrong direction of division 12.
Another major flaw would probably also be Amaya's drive to help people. Most wouldn't think that helping people would be a flaw, but it can be where Amaya's concerned. He'll put himself in harm's way if need be to protect others, and has done so countless times in the past. People also try to take advantage of him, trying to manipulate him into doing their work for them. Part of why he's gotten the nickname 'Paperwork Gremlin', he's helped others so many times with paperwork that he's practically memorized the system and can spot the flaws faster than most of the secretaries.
Amaya also has a dog that follows him around the Soul Society when he isn't on a mission. Mopsy is intelligent but not preternaturally so. A pembroke welsh corgi he isn't big or particularly intimidating but doesn't hesitate to guard Amaya from threats. He's as sweet and goofy as his master and just as hard working. Mopsy usually resides in the Squad 7 barracks when he isn't following Amaya around.
Likes: dresses, bright colors, corgis, cute accessories, books, cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, helping people, guys, cats, correctly working tech, singing, dancing, dogs, animals in general
Dislikes: spiders, bullies, rapists, rampant idiocy, broken tech, needles

History: Amaya was born to a United States navyman and his beautiful Japanese wife. He was a surprise, well not his conception nor his birth. His gender was what threw his parents. Every ultrasound that Kaede had said that Amaya was a girl, they'd even picked out his name and filled out the entire birth certificate, save for time and weight. Then surprise!
From the time Amaya could remember he had never felt like a boy. It didn't fully register to him that perhaps he was different from everyone else. He simply was what he was, which was clearly a girl to every silly person in the world. It wasn't until perhaps when he was six that he began to fully grasp what he was and wanted wasn't what kaa-san and daddy wanted him to be. It was the first time he recognized the dissonance within him. But kaa-san and daddy got far too upset when he began trying to talk about it and tell them the truth. His confusion and frustration at what was so wrong and why was he so wrong for trying to be right never went away even as he tried to work within the parameters of what his parents wanted.
He can't remember a time when he wasn't in therapy either. Amaya's gender idenitity disorder was evident from an early age, and his parents wanted that fixed. They forced him to wear all the wrong clothes, forced him to cut his hair, and right before puberty began to hit he was medicated. His father was an Admiral his mother a professional kimono designer. They couldn't afford to have an unnatural child, but when Amaya hit middle school he didn't want to play by their rules anymore.
He made an offer, if he could be the highest ranked student in his school he would be allowed to wear a girl's uniform. If he so much as got second place he'd wear a boy's uniform. It was a deal that his parents took him up on, and subsequently lost. After the first exams he took a picture of his ranking and sent it to his parents. From that day on Amaya wore a girl's uniform to school, changed with the girls during P.E., and was sorted with the girls as per his request. He refused to acknowledge anyone who tried to put him in the wrong gender group and survived horrific bullying both in and out of school. Most nights he was almost too scared to sleep, what if someone found his home? What if someone hurt his family trying to get to him? He was hospitalized twice and there were so many times he had to duck into corners or quiet places to cry. Amaya didn't understand what was so wrong about trying to be the right gender. And then in his third year of middle school the voices began.
Amaya never told anyone about the voices. Snatches of conversations where there was no one else to talk. Sometimes children or old people. Certain places they were louder than others. He didn't know what to do, what if he was becoming schizophrenic? What if he was losing his mind? It was a very real and frightening possibility for Amaya. Then where there were voices he began seeing vague shapes of people. He was terrified of what was happening and was soon placed on anti anxieties for his increasing panic attacks.
His only solace was working at a local animal shelter. Volunteering there he began to notice that the animals always seemed to noticed the figures too. Slowly he began to piece what was happening together. He was seeing ghosts, maybe. He didn't want to say he was, he didn't want to sound too insane. He didn't want to be even more of a freak than he was. Carefully asking his mother revealed that when he was little he'd had several very strange 'imaginary' friends. Ones she had eventually felt the need to remind him weren't actually there, that it was all in his head and he needed to be grounded back in reality.
When he graduated from middle school his parents gave him a present of a massive black dog that he'd fallen in love with at the shelter. Flopsy was his best friend, his only living friend during high school. Middle school had been bad but highschool was worse. The bullying racheted up, never allowing Amaya a day where he didn't have a bruise or other more serious injury to deal with. His only other companions were a handful of ghosts he talked to. No one at his school reached out a hand in friendship, all too aware that they'd be bullied just like Amaya. Even the painful loneliness and fear didn't stop Amaya from trying to live. He'd walk Flopsy along the river, he'd go shopping for dinner, borrow books from the library, or sew himself the dresses his parents refused to buy him. Even though it was painful and lonely he looked forward to the future, he was in the top five nationally for test scores and his entrance into Tokyo University's premed program was practically garunteed if he didn't want to go to Harvard or Cambridge. 'College would be better, college will be where I belong' he'd repeat to himself when the present got too grim.
Too bad he never made it there. On Christmas Eve in his last year of high school Amaya was abducted by a serial killer. He'd been coming back from the store, getting some last minute candy to fill his mother's stocking because his father had gotten into the stash Amaya had set aside. Then his world went black and he woke up in an empty decrepit shrine. Blood had dried on his face and he hurt, but it was an amount of pain he could ignore. Two other living people were there, one a girl similar in age and just as lovely as Amaya and the other a disgusting man. A third presence was in the room, another pretty girl, untied and panicked but translucent. A ghost. Amaya doesn't like remembering what happened right after he woke up, the frantic terrified sobbing of the living girl, the futile strikes of the ghostly one, the horrific things the man whispered to them both. Amaya was terrified, he knew what would likely happen, he wasn't stupid. He remembered the pattern the television had told him of, just days before about the 'angel killer'. There wasn't much time to make a plan, but he did, he had something that the other girls hadn't. Experience, he knew fear, knew pain, and knew how to function through both. He wouldn't be cowed into submission. There was a slim chance that he could save the other girl.
There was a moment when Amaya was freed and handed a knife. The killer made it clear that if he didn't kill the other girl then he would be killed himself and the other girl tortured gruesomely. He took a step forward, as if to comply with the man's wishes then spun on his heel and stabbed him. A gun shot rang out, Amaya feeling an explosion of pain but he screamed and didn't stop his attack. It was bloody and painful, scrabbling and clawing, biting and trying to cut. Finally Amaya got the man off, kicking him away the man was impaled by a piece of broken wood. Amaya felt broken, his wrist had been broken in the struggle, his vision blurry and obscured with blood. Grasping the knife he struggled over to the other girl and carefully cut her bonds. The other girl, Hikari, supported Amaya as they stumbled out into the snow and down the trail. Amaya tried his best to distract her, telling Hikari about Flopsy and his parents and how he was going to go to med school and become a doctor. Amaya isn't sure how long it took for them to stumble into town. His last memory of being alive is of telling Hikari that she was safe, that the police were there to take care of her, and Hikari starting to cry again and beg for Amaya not to go.
Hikari and his body were taken to the hospital but Amaya stayed out in the snow. The ghost of the other girl touched his shoulder, telling Amaya that he was brave. They were interrupted by a shinigami. Amaya almost left right then, like the other girl. He didn't, not because he was afraid, but because he had to say goodbye to someone first. He asked for the shinigami to come with him, he didn't want to waste too much time lingering in the world of the living when Amaya was quite certain he was dead. Leading the shinigami to his house Amaya noticed his parents weren't home. It would have been nice to say goodbye to them, but they would understand his passing better than Flopsy. He called out for his dog, the shinigami behind him a little surprised to see the dog respond. Kneeling down Amaya carefully explained to Flopsy what had happened and that he needed to be a good strong boy and help his parents. He laid a soft farewell kiss to the top of Flopsy's massive head and followed the shinigami.
Rukongai was a bit of a culture shock to Amaya. Yet it soon became comfortable. He found work as an apprentice to a kimono maker and became the beloved 'nee-chan' to a group of children. He even managed to find a dog to care for, though Amaya doesn't want to question how a Pembroke Welsh Corgi found it's way into the Soul Society. He simply adopted the dog, named him Mopsy and got a companion for his afterlife. He was there for thirty years, well until his protective instincts landed him in trouble again. A fight between a wanted fugitive and a shinigami squad found it's way to the middle of the town. It wasn't a minor fight either, there were a handful of civilian casualties along with two shinigami. It wasn't planned, when he stepped between the murder and the shinigami he was about to kill. It was a burst of protective instincts and anger at the loss of innocent lives and reiatsu exploded from him. The fugitive was knocked back and unconscious, with a few good dog bites from Bunbun (Amaya's trusty corgi sidekick). Amaya was perplexed and surprised at what had happened, getting strange looks from the villagers and grateful thanks from the shinigami. They asked if Amaya would consider going to the academy, he very nearly refused because he did have a job as the apprentice and he had his pseudo siblings to think of. He didn't actually accept, Mai the second oldest child in their family cheerfully told the shinigami that Amaya would show up bright and early. His bags were packed before he could even protest and Mai lovingly tossed him into the Academy with a cheerful 'don't come back until you've graduated nee-chan!'.
Amaya took to his studies diligently. At first he was the perfect teacher's pet, not attempting to schmooze into the good graces of the teachers but more he truly was enthusiastic and happy to be back in school. Then he began noticing the looks, the whispers of his fellow students, he hadn't been popular before but what goodwill amongst the students he had garnered began to vanish. He didn't tattle, he didn't try to show anyone up, but he applied the same method to the Academy as he had when he had been a student in the real world. He worked hard, so painfully hard, with late nights spent studying or practicing the techniques they were learning. Amaya began to withdraw from his fellow students, he stopped answering questions in class unless called on specifically, he haunted the library or the training grounds when everyone else was celebrating or relaxing. The only people he opened up to where his instructors and even then it was halting, awkward and shy despite the innate kindness he had.
Amaya wasn't a master of everything he did, but he excelled at the Academy despite his best efforts to try and keep his head down. There was even a small case of bullying, nowhere near as bad as what had happened in the living world, but people would bump into him, or they'd knock his books away, or point out to the newer members that Amaya was a 'man'. Even with the bullying he was placed in the advanced classes and allowed to go to the living world. There he partook in multiple low grade missions, trying to help when he could and no matter what he thought of his squad mates he always had their back, even when in Amaya's humble opinion they were raging assturds.
When he graduated from the Academy Amaya joined Squad 7. He got many strange looks from his fellow classmates, 'wasn't the pretty almost delicate looking shinigami going to go to Squad 4? People who were naturally so kind, cheerful, ditzy, and good at healing always went there, right?'. Their mutterings and strange looks of disbelief followed him everywhere he went. It didn't matter to them that he had graduated in the advanced class or that he'd even been a leader a handful of times on the low level missions. They never looked past the silly things he'd do or his ever constant corgi companion. They never saw his diligence towards training, the long nights spent studying, or the sheer stubborn will and pride that refused to not do the very best he could do.
When he entered Squad 7 Amaya was a seated officer, but of the lowest rank. That only spurred Amaya to throw himself wholeheartedly into working for his squad. He lent a hand for anyone who needed it, helping with paperwork, with chores, helping to find the answers to questions, helping to settle minor arguments before they became bigger issues, helping to mend holes in clothes. He trained when he could, Mopsy keeping silent watch over him as he practiced various techniques til late at night when he became drained and exhausted and could do no more. Or he'd study, Mopsy asleep on his lap as he read text after text.
Amaya soon started rising through the ranks. Given more and more responsibilities as he kept moving up through the seats, he didn't falter. He simply took them on with a smile and kept excelling, not losing his drive to still help out his fellows when he could. Somehow also becoming the natural go to person when troubles with the paperwork arose.
Finally Amaya rose to the 3rd Seat of his squad a position he's held for almost two centuries. He's become respected by his squad, and with their continued acceptance of him for who he is has allowed him to once again redefine his gender. He is neither male nor female in the traditional sense of things and will do his best to explain it to people who ask.

Zanpakutô Spirit Name: Gibuandoteiku
Zanpakutô Spirit Appearance: Gibuandoteiku is a combined Zanpakutō composing of a male and female half.
'Teiku' is a tall decently muscular guy. He is pale with long red hair and bright blue eyes. He wears a strange black gakuen school uniform, reminiscent of Amaya's old school. Teiku is usually found within the hall around the rose garden courtyard or in the mansion looking out of the windows.
'Gibu' is a petite indian woman. She wears a frillier version of Amaya's old uniform, a shorter skirt than what anyone would have been allowed and extremely poofy sleeves. She has long purple hair and bright green eyes. She is usually found in the rose garden, tending to the flowers or watering them.
Zanpakutō Personality:
Gibuandoteiku are very protective and possessive of Amaya. When forced to be together they bicker and snipe at each other over who takes better care of Amaya, who is stronger, and who knows Amaya the best. They work together when they have to but prefer their separate parts of Amaya's inner world.
Gibu is refined and cultured in her personality and is quieter than Teiku. Usually Amaya finds her inhabiting the garden, watering the roses despite the fact they exist on a lake. When Amaya is in her part of the inner world she'll try to find the prettiest rose present for Amaya, always managing to find different colors despite the fact Amaya almost always initially only sees red roses. Gibu is also the part that notices the weaknesses in others and will exploit them if she can if it means protecting Amaya.
Teiku also possesses a sense of refined culture and elegance. He is more showy compared to Gibu and can be prone to go into dramatic theatrics. Just like with Gibu his world is focused on Amaya and his desire to protect Amaya and help Amaya grow. He sees the strengths in others and often will try to use those to protect or help Amaya in any way he can.
Inner World:
Amaya's inner world is a castlelike mansion with a large rose garden courtyard placed in the center. The rose garden has no soil, no ground, instead it appears to be like a giant looking glass lake. The roses eternally grow in the water, though Amaya has found they never seem to be attatched to anything when he or Gibu try to gather them into bouquets. The sky above the rose garden is a brilliant clear night sky which is forever reflected by the looking glass lake. It makes one feel like they are standing in the middle of the galaxy. Golden wire gates dot the landscape, it doesn't seem to hide anything and stretches on as far as the eye can see but assuming anything in an inner world that isn't your own is folly.
If you walk through the gates you find yourself on a small flight of stone stairs leading up to a hallway surrounding the courtyard. The other side of the golden gates are large intricately carved stone pillar archways. This open air hallway looks directly into the garden, it is raised up several feet, and while you could easily jump down from the walkway into the garden, the only way from the garden into the mansion is through the gates. This is also where Teiku's part of the inner world begins. Going through any of the doorways in the hallway leads into the mansion. It's beautiful, stone and dark woods, various pieces of furniture and decor placed within the various rooms. Every window gives a view of the garden. Despite the vastness of it all, the elegance, it isn't intimidating. A sense of peaceful calm permeates the entire inner world, from the garden to the mansion.
Sealed Zanpakutô Apperance : Gibuandoteiku comprises of a sword and a dagger. They appear much like all the other sealed swords do, a plain katana and wakizashi. There's nothing particularly of note to remark upon other than the fact that there are two.
Sealed Zanpakutô Abilities: He is very very intune with nature and organic life in general and as such can usually detect when things are amiss or something is hiding, not because he sees it or smells it or hears it, but because something in the surroundings feels off. This sensing ability is greatly hampered if he's dropped into an area where there's nothing natural or organic nearby for him to 'read' or 'sense'. This gives him a slight empathic ability towards all organic life. This usually helps him attract and communicate with animals, not that there's any sort of deep conversation going on between them. It isn't unusual to see Amaya talking to some sort of animal and having it respond to him, not because his words really made a difference but his meaning and emotions got across.
Amaya has the ability to make plants grow bigger and stronger in a shorter amount of time than would naturally occur by putting his reiatsu into the plant to help it grow (Ie: A tree that would normally take years and decades to grow to a massive size would take Amaya months to reproduce).
Release: Wither and Bloom Gibuandoteiku!
Shikai Description: Gibuandoteiku change appearance when their shikai is released. Teiku becomes an entirely different sort of sword from a katana. His handle turns almost woodenlike and beautiful golden designs flows from the handle onto the sword itself. Runes are etched in with the rest of the designs giving Teiku a mystical feel.
Gibu changes in exactly the same way. She follows the same design, curved almost like a rolling wave, a gust of wind, or a beautiful vine. The only true difference between them is that Gibu is less orante than Teiku. The etched designs are not golden and her wooden handle is fairly plain.
Shikai Abilities: When Gibuandoteiku is released Amaya's empathic abilities increase substantially. He becomes acutely in tune with his surroundings, connecting with the feel and spirit of a place. It also makes it somewhat difficult for him because with his increased empathy he can sometimes connect with and feel the pain of his living/organic enemies, sometimes the connection won't sever until the shikai is sealed once more or the enemy is dead.
When Amaya uses 'Bloom' Gibu allows him to connect with and control surrounding flora. Trees can move to help shield him from attacks, grass grows long and sharp cutting foes. Vines can wrap around enemies, stronger than they would naturally have been if Amaya wasn't pumping his own reiatsu into it. They aren't sentient despite appearances, Amaya is the one in control. He can speed up the growth of plants and augment or exaggerate features already there. Minor changes obviously take less energy than major changes, the more elaborate the change the more energy it takes to preform and maintain control.
'Wither' is just as it's name implies. Whereas 'Bloom' and Gibu give energy to the flora and natural surroundings for Amaya to manipulate, Teiku takes energy away. When 'Wither' is activated the affect is almost instantaneous. Plants closest to Amaya begin to wither and die, their energy going into Amaya. The longer it is in affect the larger the area of decay. It moves outwards from where Amaya is located and acts like an ever increasing bubble. While Wither is obviously more frightening to watch it isn't as helpful as it would originally seem.
Amaya can never be 100% certain the amount of energy he'll receive from 'Wither'. If placed in a regular park in the Real World, with only a tree, a couple of bushes, and mainly grass to draw on he might get enough to power a low level Kidō spell. The more complex and longer lived plants will always yield more energy than a less complex plant. A forest or dense jungle will give him more energy than a prairie or grassy field. Plant filled areas around Karakura Town would give him a slightly extra boost, as well as activating Wither in the Soul Society. Placed in the arctic, middle of a city, or especially for some unforseen reason Hueco Mendo he wouldn't even see the point of even attempting to activate 'Wither'.
Both 'Wither' and 'Bloom' have a maximum radius of effect of 25 feet around Amaya. The further from Amaya the longer it takes for either 'Wither' or 'Bloom' to take affect. To reach the maximum radius, with Amaya not moving closer to what he wishes to control or take energy from takes about a minute.Bankai Description: (You may fill out your Bankai Description, but unless you get staff permission, you may not use your Bankai right off the bat. Roleplay Sample: "You really should learn how to mend your clothes yourself Mai-chan."
Amaya gently admonished his adopted sister. It still didn't change the fact he had her clothes spread out, and neither did it change the fact that Amaya had pins carefully clasped in his mouth. It also didn't help that Mai wasn't even in the room or anywhere near the barracks. It was one of the semi routine packages he got from Rukongai. The postage to get the torn clothes to Amaya was always cheaper than buying new ones or going to a seamstress. It was also professionally done, well Amaya had almost become a professional kimono maker before he'd gone to the Academy (and if he hadn't been so driven to go towards medical school in life he likely would have chosen that as his career).
The light was dim in his room, just enough light to see and work by but not enough to potentially bother anyone in the barracks. Not that if Amaya had lit his room up like a Christmas tree would anyone really be bothered by it. He was simply a touch over conscience when it came to his fellow squad members.
"Aha there!"
He grinned brightly as he held up the mended article of clothing. Carefully folding it he placed it on the pile of clothes he had finished mending. Grasping the next article he looked at it puzzled.
"Eh...? Mopsy how do you think Jin-chan did this? It's quite peculiar don't you think?"
Holding up the stained and torn piece of cloth for his corgi's opinion he patiently waited. Mopsy stared at the cloth, getting up and trotting over. Sniffing the clothes he snuffled and sneezed before turning his expressive brown eyes at Amaya clearly as puzzled as his shinigami about how the cloth came to be in that state.
"Should I send them some money to get Jin-chan something new?"
Mopsy sat down. His ears twitched slightly before placing his head down. It wasn't a response most people would take as continuing the conversation but Amaya did. With a sigh and shake of his head he conceded Mopsy's point.
"Yes, I know they'd just send it back and scream at me the next time I visited, and depending on how much it'd hurt Mai-chan's pride I'd have to let her hit me. I don't think she realizes that I let her do that, do you? Okay let's see if I can fix this Mopsy. Though I doubt even my skills with a needle will be able to save it."
It was easy to have a conversation with his dog. To speak to him as if he was another person. The easy sort of camaraderie, the trust that no matter what came out of his mouth Mopsy would always love him for who and what he was. It was really just inane babble coming from Amaya as he worked, fingers nimble and quick as he precisely stitched the tears. It was the same sort of natural ability that had gotten him such high marks in field first aid. It was soothing, working with his hands, taking something broken and mending it. After centuries of life he still enjoyed sewing, and it made him absently wonder if his mother still plied her trade. Did she work in the Rukongai? Was his father with her? They were questions that he hadn't answered. Sometimes he'd look, never hard, but letting his eyes wander over the faces of strangers in Rukongai. Wondering if he'd find them again, would they be proud of his accomplishments? He loved them still, not as fiercely as he had when he was alive, but it lingered in his heart. He wanted the best for them, and probably always would.
Though what he missed more than his parents was Flopsy. A dull ache in his heart made him pause. Putting down his work he reached out and picked Mopsy up. Nuzzling the reddish brown fur he breathed in the familiar soothing scent of dog. Mopsy wasn't a replacement for Flopsy. Mopsy was Mopsy, beloved and dear. Amaya knew he'd be devastated if he ever lost Mopsy. Mopsy wiggled in his arms and twisted, stray licks on his face making Amaya giggle and the stump of a tail furiously wagging. yes there was pain in the past, heart aches and wounds, but as Mopsy was always quick to remind him there was also a great deal of joy in the here and now. Everything looks fine accept for the whole thing about the powers. Personally I don't like powers that drain other peoples powers. Only in Canon will we ever see something like this. If you fix that I will recheck it and give you a tier and what not.
