Personality: Ren is a pretty unusual boy in terms of personality. Unlike most, Ren rarely speaks and when he does, its usually only a few words. This isn’t because he’s mute or doesn’t like his voice, but simply because he’s too shy to speak half the time. Though he looks like the type who prefers solitude, the truth of the matter is Ren’s just too shy to speak most times. He does overcome this shyness when around people who are optimistic and pleasant to be around. Otherwise, he’s usually trapped in his own quiet world.

Because of his shyness, or perhaps his shyness is the actual result, Ren is actually quite knowledgeable about many things. Perhaps it comes from listening and rarely having to say a word, but Ren has a vast information network inside his mind. Ren is also somewhat kind when he wants to be. However, he’s usually quiet and uninterested. It’s never a surprise to see Ren off in a corner.

Zanpakutō Name: Midori no Kage

Zanpakutō Spirit Personality: Midori no Kage is very similar to Ren, a knowledgeable Zanpakutō who has a rather quiet demeanor. However, unlike Ren, Midori no Kage isn’t the least bit shy and is only quiet when he wants to be. He is a very polite and gentle spirit despite his name, often greeting Ren as “Master Gura.” Still, Midori no Kage can sometimes be seen as cold and distant even towards Ren. Even so, he’s always concerned with his partner’s wellbeing and safety. It is for that reason that Midori no Kage sees Maken as a threat that Ren should dispose of at the first chance.

Inner World: Midori no Kage’s inner world is, to put it simply, a dense forest that stretches out for miles and miles. However, unlike normal forests, this forest is actually a world that is upside down. It’s strange, since those inside the world actually stand on the bottom of branches. If someone were to fall off these branches, they’d fall into the sky and keep falling for all eternity, unless they can fly or walk on air. It is because of this that fighting or even moving inside the inner world can get increasingly difficult.

Just like any forest, a long winding river runs through the ground “sky.” However, since its upside down, small droplets of water steadily fall from the river like rain, though much slower. Another unusual feature is that the forest has no animals, insects, or even flowers. It’s just grass and trees as far as the eye can see.

Sealed Zanpakutō Appearance: When sealed, Midori no Kage looks like your average katana. It's about twenty four feet in length with a green handle and silver guard. The sheath is the same green color as the handle with a darker green hanging cord. Ren carries this sword on his back.

Shikai Information

Shikai Appearance: While in shikai, Midori no Kage splits into two equally long katanas that have some distinct differences from the sealed form. For one, the identical swords both have a red handle rather than green. The guard has also changed along with the pommel to a gold color rather than silver. Midori no Kage only retains his silver blade in shikai.

Shikai Abilities: Midori no Kage is a strange Zanpakutō with only two abilities. The first ability is concealment, the very skill that separates Midori no Kage from other Zanpakutō. This ability allows Midori no Kage to erase Ren’s presence completely. Specifically, he puts an invisible green shield around Ren that completely hides his reiatsu. This is key for sneak attacks, since the enemy wouldn’t be able to detect Ren.

Midori no Kage’s second ability is a bit weak, but it is still useful despite this. This ability is wind control, which is yet another buff. Using this, Midori no Kage is able to control the wind around Ren to offer less push and pull from gravity. This in turn makes Ren move just a bit faster than normal. To put it precisely, this speed boost is half the speed of a flash step.

Bankai Information

Bankai Abilities: Like in shikai, Midori no Kage retains the ability to conceal Ren’s presence in shikai. However, this ability is given an upgrade in Bankai. When in this form, Midori no Kage actually spreads out the blue field around the area so that it appears as if Ren is in multiple places at once. Doing this, Midori no Kage spreads Ren’s Spiritual pressure onto inanimate objects to fool the opponent while Ren is still concealed. This ability is usable thanks to Midori no Kage’s wind control. If someone follows one of these spiritual pressures, that reiatsu would disappear. On the other hand, if someone manages to strike, touch, or make contact with Midori no Kage or Ren, all the reiatsus would disappear.

Another ability that Midori no Kage retains at Shikai is the ability to increase Ren’s speed. However, when in this form, Midori no Kage allows Ren to move at three-fourths the power of a flash step. It may be small, but this little upgrade can be crucial in battle. Midori no Kage also gains the ability to blow a gust of air at the opponent. This may sound like an unusual ability, but it can actually be used to blow back weak projectiles. It can also be used to blow out fires less than 977 degrees.

Midori no Kage’s final ability, and one that he only gains in Bankai, is the ability to change between a double bladed sword to a large four pointed shrunken star. Midori no Kage is able to do this on command or automatically when picked up by someone other than Ren. This is a nasty surprise for enemies who try to use the Zanpakutō on his partner. Moving on, while in the shuriken form, Midori no Kage is basically the same size as the normal sword form, but can still be thrown as if it was a small projectile. However, when in the sword form, Midori no Kage acts like a razor sharp staff to cut at the opponent. Unfortunately, as Midori no Kage switches between sword and shuriken, there is a six second wait that continually grows. After ten switches, for example, there is a minute long wait.

Inner Hollow & Mask

Little Devil

Inner Hollow Description:

Inner Hollow Personality: Little Devil is, like his name would imply, an evil entity who loves causing trouble for both Ren and Midori no Kage. His usual antics include painting the trees in Midori no Kage’s inner world black or impersonating him when Ren comes to visit. Always a prankster, Little Devil is often regarded by Ren as Midori no Kage’s sidekick. It’s true that he’s always trying to take over Ren’s body, but Little Devil & Ren are still on speaking terms for the most part. Despite the fact that he’s like a parasite living in Ren’s body, Ren still likes to know that there’s someone besides Midori no Kage looking out for him.

Being a hollow, Little Devil has the habit of taking over Ren’s body when he’s in a pinch. This isn’t to say that Little Devil really cares about his wellbeing one way or the others. He could care less if Ren dies or not. However, his mindset is that if Ren dies, he dies as well. It is for that reason that Little Devil lends his power to Ren. That and he’s trapped inside him until he’s able to take full control of Ren’s body.

Inner Hollow Powers: Little Devil has a strange power that Ren calls "the power of darkness." However, it's really just the ability control gravity. Little devil has the ability to control the push and pull of gravity to a certain extent. Doing this, Little Devil is either able to slow down or stop an opponent completely if he chooses to. Unfortunately, Little Devil's power is limited to stopping one person at a time. He can still slow down five at a time, though.

Little Devil is also able to use his powers of gravity to push, or pull an opponent towards him. The same can be said with objects, animals, and most projectiles. Little Devil can also use the power of gravity to attack, such as squishing an opponent by raising the amount of gravity around them. Besides gravity, Little Devil can also attack with its wings and claws, which are both unusually powerful. However, Little Devil will unusually stick to gravity attacks.

Vizard Powers

Vizard Powers: When Ren dawns his mask, his power is of course doubled first of all. His speed is increased a bit, but not much since Midori no kage already gives him enough speed. Little Devil's power focuses more on power than speed, though he is of couse speedy thanks to his small size. However, the real reason to put on the mask is for the power of gravity.

Since he only borrows a bit of Little Devil's power during hollowfication, Ren is only able to use Little Devil's power to push or pull an opponent towards him. However, this is still useful for offensive combat. It comes in handy when he's surrounded by enemies and needs to get them off fast. Ren is also able to use Little Devil's cero's for offense. Unfortunately, since Little Devil only gives a bit of power, these ceros are a bit weak. It is for that reason that Ren usually relies on his power boost and gravity.

History

Background:

When I Lived
A boy was born on a cold February night to a family of abusive parents. That boy experienced the worst pain of all as he was put through a living hell. Then one day the boy had enough and decided to change things for the better. That same boy ended up on the news for failing to kill himself. Unfortunately he survived and later went on to curse god for saving him. It wasn't until several more attempts that things soon began to change.

Putting the suicidal child in a friendly orphanage seemed like a good idea at first. However, one thing that became apparent is that old habits die hard. As his ungodly luck kept him alive despite all his attempts, the boy soon gave up and decided to take a chance at luck. Just as he was seeing the good in things, cruel fate would rear its head and turn him into a wondering plus. It was all over the news, the young teen's death at the hands of a burglar. Though he was free from his body, his soul remained for it couldn't part with his new home.

As the years progressed, the orphanage deteriorated until it was forgotten all together. When plans were made to tear it down, the boy became furious. Turning into a hollow and running amok, the boy would be stopped by a wandering shinigami. This boy went by the name of Ren Gura.

After I died

So the boy named Ren was sent to the soul society where he wandered aimlessly through the streets of Rukongai. It was just like he was back home with his abusive family, for life in the 80th district was just as bad. Violence, death, and always fighting...the only reason Ren survived was because he was always running. Then one day he stopped running and stopped to take a nap. However, when he awoke he found himself surrounded by bloodthirsty men. That was when the shinigami that saved him swopped in to lend a hand. He took down the enemies and disappeared without even a trace.

That was when Ren decided to find this cloaked man. Running out of the 80th district, Ren began to explore, roaming from district to district expecting to find the shinigami. However, as he continued, he began to feel a something strange. As he rested between areas, he'd here someone calling. One day when he decided to rest in district 75, Ren would dream of a green haired man. When he woke up the next day, he'd have a chance encounter.

Walking out of his makeshift home, Ren would see a shinigami. It was the same that had saved when he was a hollow and almost killed by swordsmen. Approaching the man, who was wandering about, Ren demanded answers. He wanted to know why he'd save him when noone else cared. To the the rest of the world, people like Ren were just a bunch of scum. So why would this stranger help Ren on multiple occasions.

It was then that he learned the truth about shinigami. His job was to cleanse hollows so they could pass on to the Soul Society. Though the area in which he lived was unmonitored, this shinigami took the time to patrol daily. However, the real reason he saved Ren was because he was different than the others. He said that Ren had a "high amount of reiryoku." At first Ren was confused, so the man asked him if he'd heard someone in his dreams. Immediately Ren remembered the green haired man he'd dreamed about.

The man told Ren that he should be a shinigami, since his dream was of a Zanpakutō spirit. Ren was skeptical but decided to try it to get out of the violent world of Rukongai. He was also curious about this thing called "reiryoku" and whatever was trying to come in contact with him. The man told Ren that to become a shinigami he had to get through the academy. He offered to take Ren and he agreed since it was faster than walking. As they set off for Shino Academy, Ren asked the shinigami's name. He told him he went by the name of Shiro Inuzuri.

Meeting Midori no Kage
It wasn't so much as a problem to get into the academy, but Ren had trouble simply because of his shyness. Even so, after getting inside, Ren would find the actual classes were a bit easier. The subjects of Hakuda and Zanjutsu were strangely graspable, while his real problem came with Kidō and Hoho. Still, after struggling and studying, he managed to somehow perfect the art at least up to the 33rd Hadō and 37th Bakudō.

Then along came the project every shinigami had through. It was time for little Ren to get his Zanpakutō. Since joining Shino Academy, Ren's dreams of the green man were small. As he learned about the ways of the shinigami, the man appeared less and less. By the time he'd made it half way through the year, all Ren could remember was the man's voice. Still this was good enough because most others were also in the dark.

Ren's instructor told him that, to find his Zanpakutō, he had to ask it himself. It seemed simple in theory, but the actual problem was getting in contact with the man. However, it was actually as simple as going to sleep. That night, Ren dreamnt a clear image of the green haired man. He asked him who he was and the man told Ren to go to a desolent tree within the Soul Society.

Ren would then wake up in the middle of the night on a cold rooftop. As he got up, it seemed that his body moved on automatically to take Ren towards the green haired man. It was an imaginary map inside his head that made it seems like he'd taken the past before. Though he didn't realize it, this was the green man's doing. He was leading him without Ren even knowing.

Eventually, Ren arrived and looked around curiously. Before him stood an oak tree but that was about it. The area was empty in terms of life. Walking closer to examine the tree, Ren would hear a whisper in his ear. Turning around, Ren would find himself looking into a dense forest. Looking around, he saw that he was surrounded by trees. The area had somehow made a drastic change s0 that Ren was standing in some kind of forest.

However, the strangest thing would suddenly happen. Ren felt himself suddenly being lifted in the air. His hair flew up and his blood rushed to his head. That was when he realized, he was actually falling. This forest was upside down. Flipping over so that he was falling feet first, Ren would land on a forest branch and look around in bewilderment. That's when Ren heard the whisper again. Turning, Ren would see the green haired man standing behind.

Strangely when Ren first layed eyes on him, he didn't feel fear or happiness or anything. It was as if he'd known him so long that he even knew his parents. Before he even introduced himself as Midori no Kage Ren already knew his true identity. Midori no Kage went on to explain that he was a Zanpakutō and that he'd chosen Ren to be his next partner, or he would if he passed a test.

Without hesitation, Midori no kage would suddenly dawn his shikai. Launching at Ren at an increadible speed, he'd go for an instant kill. However, Ren wasn't going down so easy for he quickly responded by shunpoing out of harms way and preparing for the impending battle. As the fighting went on, Ren held his on with Kidō, Hoho, and Hakuda, but he soon discovered, Midori no Kage had a particularly strange power.

The Zanpakutō could be there one moment and disappear the next. If Shadow took his eyes off him for a second then he'd get attacked from behind. Putting two and two together, Ren found out that Midori no Kage had a speed boost. Not only that, but he was also able to hide his reiryoku. Once he found this out Ren found that the battle became somewhat easier. As long as he kept his guard up then Midori no Kage couldn't get him from behind. However, Midori no Kage was able to get behind Ren one time and slash at his back. This was strange since from his position he could have just stabbed Ren in the back.

Speaking of which, Midori no Kage had never took the killing blow. He'd just keep slashing and never exactly go for the kill. That's when he realized the true reason for this hard test. Facing the spirit, Ren would hold out his arms as he braced for Midori no Kage's strike. When he saw this Midori no Kage grew a smile on his face. Changing tactics, his sword would stab Ren's chest instead of slash. Just as he expected, he felt no pain as the sword went through him. Instead Ren felt power flow into him all at once. Opening his eyes, Ren found himself blinking into darkness. He was back in Rukongai and in his hand was the sealed Midori no Kage. Ren had passed the test and now he had a partner Zanpakutō.
