What can be said about Captain Hitsugaya aside from the fact he is stern and he follows the rules. Job and mission always comes first in his mind before the affairs of others. Despite his careless Vice-Captain, Hitsugaya remains one of the most respected Captains of Soul Society and the Gotei 13. He is often quiet and when his opinion is needed he will deliver it. When meetings are made he is one of the first to arrive and attends with the most respect and honor. To Hitsugaya Work comes frist. Matsumoto loves to drink and party, but when she is caught Hitsugaya scolds her and informs her to attend in the paperwork or he will be one angry Captain. Matsumoto usually listens untill she can get away from him again. Momo Hinamori which is a very close person to him always talks down to him as "Shiro-Chan" (Or Lil Shiro for you Dub watchers...). Momo may look as if she is not important to Hitsugaya on the outside, but if a drop of blood is ever spilt from her body, then Hitsugaya is the first to retaliate. Hitsugaya vows to protect her with all that he is and it pains him to see her in pain.

After Aizen's betrayal Hitsugaya would watch Momo as she recovered from her latest injury with pain. On his Mission to Earth to wait for the Arrancar Momo and him talked with smiles on their faces. But when Momo begged Hitsugaya to not hurt Aizen and that he's just being "Controlled" Hitsugaya couldn't help but frown to see her still protecting the man that stabbed her.

Hitsugaya's strength is one to be aware of, for is he has a suitable amount of hydration in the area, he can use his Ban-Kai for a longer period of time. His Shikai's strength alone has so much force and PSI it can tear a man apart, not including the ice. Overall Hitsugaya is a good Captain and fights for what he thinks is right. Even in the Rebellion he led Soul Society back to safety after solving the mystery of his former friend Sojiro and with the help of Ichigo, making peace once again.

Ultimately, after many years have passed since the fall of Aizen, Hitsugaya worked with Hinamori to recover from her devastating experiences, and he would always apologize behind closed doors for having his blade go through her. Even though he has a heart of Ice, he still holds humility to beg for forgiveness to the one he's known for so long.

When Hitsugaya first became captain after thriving through the Academy like it was nothing, he was short and people looked down to him, literally. His pure white hair was visible from anywhere, and people would be able to recognize him immediately from anywhere. His blue eyes were as cold as his heart as he could stare at anyone with his cold eyes and freeze their soul in place just from intimidation. He wore the traditional Shinigami uniform with a Captain hiori his size with the number 10 on it's back. Also on his back, was Hyorinmaru, his Zanpaktou.

BECOMING AN ADULT

Now growing in size, Hitsugaya appears at the age of 16 in this photo. His relationship with Hinamori grows as the two grow together, but Hinamori still has a little height on Hitsugaya. Getting new clothes to fit his growth, Hitsugaya wears the same uniform setup with Hyorinmaru on his back, standing at 5' 1" and weighting 107 lbs.

ONCE A CHILD, NOW A LEADER

Finally at the peak of his appearance, Hitsugaya appears as a young man to most now, standing at 6' 1" and weighing 140 lbs. His uniform fits perfectly, and Hyorinmaru still sits on Hitsugaya's back. His hair remains to stay in the spiked fashion and his captain Hiyori fits him like the rest of the captain hyori's.

Racial Abilities:

Master Swordsmanship Specialist:

Hitsugaya is masterful at swordsmanship, capable of utilizing his size to effectively counter and outmaneuver his opponent. His skill in swordsmanship is evident in the fact that he is the youngest Shinigami captain, he is thereby one of the youngest Shinigami to achieve Bankai. His skills in swordsmanship are great enough that he rarely uses even his Shikai in battle, of which he has shown great proficiency with. Instead he relies on Hyōrinmaru's sealed form, only using its Shikai or Bankai when things get tough.

Child Genius:

Perhaps the most astonishing trait of Hitsugaya is his brains and natural talent. He is possibly the most gifted Shinigami the Soul Society has ever seen besides Kisuke Urahara, as shown from him entering the Shinigami Academy on his first try despite his young age, graduating from the academy in a single year with the overall highest scores of his class, joining the Gotei 13 shortly afterwards, and then becoming the youngest Shinigami to ever reach the rank of captain. He has been called many things due to this. Renji and Iba have called him a child genius and Ichimaru has called him the embodiment of the "heavenly white angel that blesses Soul Society once a century". In terms of intellect, Hitsugaya has shown to be equally impressive. He was even the first to suspect Ichimaru of treason and saw that there was more to Rukia's execution than what was being said. Shunsui, one of the strongest Shinigami in history, states that because of his genius, within 100 years, Hitsugaya could surpass him.

Immense Spiritual Power:

Tōshirō's spiritual power has the same effect as his Zanpakutō as it is an elemental representative of Ice. His Spiritual Pressure is said to be very large and "cold". Even before he became a Shinigami, his spiritual pressure was immense and uncontrollable, not unlike Ichigo, and caused people around him to freeze, namely his grandmother who lived with him at the time. This cold spiritual power of his reflects his attitude as well. He is also the youngest Shinigami to ever achieve their Bankai. He even had visions of Hyōrinmaru's spirit before he attained it or entered the Shinigami academy. He is able to hide his presence well, on several occasions he manages to surprise Hinamori and Matsumoto with his sudden appearances, which leads them to complain about "sneaking up" upon them.

Enhanced Durability:

Despite his young and lean appearance, Tōshirō has shown himself to be a resilient fighter. He survived the attacks of Shawlong Kūfang while at 20 percent of his actual strength.

Expert Strategist & Tactician:

Despite his age, Hitsugaya has repeatedly shown great instincts and intuition in battle. He is generally aware of everything in his presence and also able to see through most deceptions. For example, he discerned that Gin Ichimaru was more than he seemed, although he was not yet sharp enough to realize it was all part of Aizen's plot. As a Captain, he is a great battle strategist. He is given missions from General Yamamoto to lead teams into the human world many times to deal with large threats. For example, Hitsugaya led the team sent by Soul Society which reinforced Ichigo's group against the Arrancar. In battle, he has shown great instincts against incoming danger as shown from his reaction to Harribel's initial attack after releasing.

Flash Steps Expert:

Hitsugaya is highly proficient in flash steps. Repeatedly in battle, he has shown himself able to block and dodge dangerous attacks.

Kidō Expert:

Hitsugaya is highly proficient in Kidō and is capable of performing high-level Kidō spells without the incantation. For example, during his battle with Hyōrinmaru, he used a level 63 binding spell without the incantation.

Hand-to-Hand Combatant:

Hitsugaya was able to knock out a grief-fueled Hinamori in a single blow while in mid-air. However, he is seen more using his Zanpakutō so his expertise in this field remains to be seen.

Zanpakutô Spirit:
Hyorinmaru

Hitsugaya's Zanpakutō is Hyorinmaru. Hyorinmaru is the strongest of all ice element Zanpakutō in Soul Society. Hyorinmaru is one of the three Zanpakutō spirits that have been seen, the others being Zangetsu and Zabimaru. Hyorinmaru's spirit is a large, winged, Japanese dragon. The world in which Hyorinmaru resides over is that of endless ice under the crescent moon. The wind blows strongly, as standing over this world is the God of Ice, Hyorinmaru.

Sealed Zanpakutô:
When sealed, Hyorinmaru looks almost exactly like a normal Zanpakutō with the exception of the guard, which is in the shape of a four-pointed star. The hilt is light-blue while the sheath is a deep blue.

In its shikai, Hyorinmaru itself remains the same, but gains a crescent-shaped blade attached to the hilt by a chain. Hyorinmaru allows Hitsugaya to control water and ice. The slashes created by Hyorinmaru gives off an immense amount of spirit power which overflows from the tip of the blade, creating a flow of ice vaguely shaped like Hyorinmaru's dragon spirit. The dragon flies at opponents and instantly freezes anything it touches. The chain-blade also freezes anything Hitsugaya traps with it.

Shikai Abilities:

Shikai Special Ability:

Hyōrinmaru allows Hitsugaya to control water and ice. His slashes create an immense amount of spiritual power which overflows from the tip of the blade, creating a flow of ice shaped like a Chinese dragon. The dragon flies towards opponents and instantly freezes anything it touches. Hyōrinmaru can create multiple ice dragons to attack an opponent from various angles. Hitsugaya can also direct his slashes towards the ground and form a wave of ice which rushes over his opponents, overwhelming and freezing them. The chain-blade also freezes anything Hitsugaya traps with it. The power it expels is so overwhelming that in Soul Society (where Hitsugaya is not placed under a limiter), its mere release affects the weather within the immediate vicinity, creating a thunderstorm or a blizzard.

Tensō Jūrin (天相従臨, Subjugation Of The Heavens)

One of Hyōrinmaru's basic powers, as well as its strongest. It allows him to control the weather in the immediate vicinity, or more specifically, control the water in the surrounding atmosphere. The ability is usable in both Shikai and Bankai modes. However, Hitsugaya states that this aspect of his powers is not fully mature and that he doesn't like to use it in Bankai mode, as he is unsure of whether or not he could control it and keep it from killing everyone in the vicinity.

Daiguren Hyōrinmaru (大紅蓮氷輪丸, "Grand Crimson Lotus Ice Ring"; Viz "Great Roaring Coldly Shining Moon"): Causes ice to flow from Hyōrinmaru onto Hitsugaya, starting at his right arm which ice forms onto in the shape of a dragon's head around his sword hand, encasing the sword up to the hilt; which also changes from the shape of a four-pointed star to that of eight-pointed star. The ice continues forming up over his shoulders with two large wings sprouting from his back and a long tail. The ice forms down his left arm encasing his hand which ends in a claw. Hitsugaya's feet are encased in ice in a similar manner to his left hand which as they to end in claws. These new ice limbs are movable and can be used as an extension of himself to aid in battle. During some appearances of his Bankai, three flowers of ice form floating behind him, each consisting of four purple petals shaped like diamonds. These petals melt away petal by petal as Hitsugaya's battle progresses, leading Shawlong Kūfang to speculate that Hitsugaya's Bankai will fade when all twelve petals disappear, assuming that the captain's Bankai was incomplete due to his young age. During his fight with Luppi, these petals were noticeably absent; however, during his fight with Tia Harribel, they were present once more and they also appeared once again with his fight with Aizen. However, because of his new age and years of training and development, the flowers are no longer present, allowing Hitsugaya to stay into his Bankai for the time allowed by his Zanpaktou.

After 400 years, Hitsugaya managed to fully mature his Zanpaktou, making him become one of the most powerful Captains in the Gotei. Hitsugaya's Bankai emits a temperature about 1 meter around him that is of absolute 0. The temperature to any enemy that comes close to it will begin to freeze, and any form of hydration in the air. This ensure's that Hitsugaya's wings are of the coldest ice known to man as it is no longer a water based ice, but a pure dry ice. The ice cannot be melted and when Hitsugaya uses his wings as a sheild, they will just reform if damaged by any loose hydrogen in the air.

Bankai Abilities:

Everything will Freeze.

Passives:

Due to Hitsugaya's intense training over 400 years, his Bankai has fully matured allowing him to not only stay in this phase, but the temperature around him is freezing. The retisu he uses freezes as well, making his ice unmeltable, and forever frozen unless Hitsugaya wishes for it to melt. He can control hydration as if there was water coming his way, he could freeze it instantly, and unfreeze it passivly just by controling the temperature in the area. His shikai abilities also pass over to his Bankai.

Bankai Regeneration:

During his battle with Luppi, Hitsugaya's Bankai was damaged. However, it regenerated, and Hitsugaya stated that as long as there is water in the air his Bankai can be revived indefinitely.

Ice Clone:

Tōshirō is able to create and shape a large amount of ice into his exact likeness. It is very life-like as it can appear to bleed. This ability takes a moment to prepare, but once complete, Hitsugaya can move himself away by simply performing a shunpo and put an ice clone in his place, giving him tactical advantage.

Shield of Ice Wings:

Hitsugaya is capable of wrapping his wings around himself like a sphere protecting him from any attacks.

Ryūsenka (竜霰花, Dragon Hail Flower):

When Hitsugaya stabs his opponents, a huge burst of ice erupts from the point of contact between Hyōrinmaru and the opponents, encasing and freezing them. Hitsugaya can then proceed to shatter the ice and his opponent with it.

Sennen Hyōrō (千年氷牢, Thousand Years' Ice Prison):

Hitsugaya creates many ice pillars which encircle him and his enemy. At his command (when he turns his sword 90 degrees counter-clockwise), these pillars then move towards the enemy, enveloping and crushing it. Though this technique is very powerful, Hitsugaya infers that it takes a considerable amount of time to prepare, and therefore the distraction of his enemy is crucial in successfully completing this attack.

Tōshirō's Hyōten Hyakkasō technique, Hyōten Hyakkasō (氷天百華葬, Frozen Heaven Hundred Flower Funeral):

This ability is an extension of Hyorinmaru's Tensō Jūrin power. However, because Hitsugaya dislikes using Tensō Jūrin while his Bankai is active, he rarely uses it. The ability opens up a huge hole in the clouds through which a large amount of snow falls down on to his opponent. As the snow comes into contact with the opponent, ice flowers sprout all over their body, instantly trapping them in a pillar of ice. Hitsugaya claimed that when the last of the 100 petals falls, the life of the one who touched it will be over.

Guncho Tsurara (群鳥氷柱, Icicle Flock):

Hitsugaya can transform water into ice and then swing his Zanpakutō in an arc which fires an array of ice daggers at his target.

Hyōryū Senbi (氷竜旋尾, Ice Dragon Swirling Tail):

With this technique, Hitsugaya swings his sword in a linear direction and creates overflowing ice from his blade in the form of a crescent.

Zekku (絶空, Void Sever):

This ability allows Hitsugaya to control his Hyouryū Senbi technique and send it up into the air.

Flash Freeze:

Hitsugaya can instantly flash hydration in the air, creating Ice Walls about 5 feet thick and 20 feet in square. They are of course in tied with Hitsugaya's passive of Absolute 0, so they cannot be melted unless under extreme stress of heat or by Hitsugaya's control.

Frost Burn:

If put in contact with any of Hitsugaya's ice, the effect wouldn't be that of a cold freeze, but instead a freezeing burn. The effect will affect the skin and start to burn the skin till returned to normal temperature. If not taken care of, this can cause extreme dehydration of the cells of the body, and lead to Frost Bite and extreme hypothermia to the organs. Best stay clear of his ice from his main attacks. Any shreads of ice from the attack wont contain the Frost Burn, only the main ones like Hyorinamru and such from there...

History/Background:

Hitsugaya's early life was spent in Junrinan, District 1 of Rukongai. There he lived with his grandmother and Momo Hinamori. He was also a friend of Jidanbo, the West Gate Keeper, whom he taught the "city rules."

Hitsugaya meets Hyorinmaru for the first time.As a child, Hitsugaya had an icy demeanor that estranged himself from others, with the exception of his grandmother and Hinamori. She would call him "Shiro-chan" (Lil' Shiro in the English dub) and he would retort by calling her "Bed-wetter Momo." The three were very close, and Hitsugaya was irritated when Hinamori left to join the Shinigami academy. Throughout his childhood, he was always aware of what seemed to be an icy presence within himself and had continuous dreams about a plain of ice. He claims or believes he died on that plain. Five years after Hinamori's departure, Hitsugaya encountered Rangiku Matsumoto, then a normal Shinigami, in a marketplace, when she stood up to a merchant who left his change on the counter, rather than handing it to him. The two got into an argument, and Rangiku noticed Hitsugaya's enormous latent spiritual power.

That night, Hitsugaya dreamed again of the icy plain and finally met Hyorinmaru for the first time, though he could not hear the spirit's name. He woke up to find Rangiku admonishing him for not being able to control his power, which had been freezing his grandmother. She convinced him that power like his needed to be controlled, and convinced him to become a Shinigami. With Hitsugaya's natural talent, he entered the Shinigami academy in spite of his age and became known as a prodigy, quickly ascending to captain of the 10th Division, ironically making him Rangiku's superior.

Hinamori has continued to call Hitsugaya "Shiro-chan" out of habit, and still feels protective of him. Because of a promise she had made, she only began to call him by name after he had achieved his Zanpakutō's shikai and was recognized as a Shinigami. Highly capable and knowledgeable, he remains the youngest of the captains within the Gotei 13. After many years becoming the captain of Division 10, and working with the Soul Society, Hitsugaya's bond with Momo managed to only grow and grow. Though Hitsugaya would act very annoyed and resistant around her, he always made sure she was comfortable. Her affection over Hitsugaya was also strong as she provided him with Watermelons from time to time as to remind him of their time together as children. Toushiro understood this, as the eventually admitted to one another their true feelings for one another. When time was right, Hitsugaya tied a string around Hinamori's finger, as a way of a promise. He swore to her that after his time within the Soul Society was matured, and he was older, the two were to be wed. Hinamori loving the idea, did not hesitate to claim herself as his Unofficial wife, and thus, it went public in no time.

After the long and depressing war with the Former Captain Aizen, Hitsugaya was saved by no other than the amazing Unohana, Captain of the 4th Division. Hitsugaya was out for about 2 weeks unconscious, while his limbs were reattached and his health was reestablished. He woke up sweating one day and breathing heavily. The doctors told him to lie down, but the first words to leave Hitsugaya's mouth were "Hinamori". Unohana entered the room while Hitsugaya was begging for her status, and Unohana was able to settle him down, telling him his blade missed her heart and that she would be okay. Hitsugaya laid back against the bed allowing the doctors to get back to work on him, and as he slowly fell back to sleep in the anesthesia, a single tear dropped from his right eye as he said to himself, 'Thank god...'

About 5 months later, Hitsugaya was released from the Hospital and allowed to move on his own. He returned to his Division to a very rambunctious Matsumoto and proud Division. Hitsugaya just smirked as he was welcomed back, but his mind was elsewhere. Matsumoto, being the Vice Captain for ages under Hitsugaya, knew he had something on his mind. When the rest of the Division returned to work, Matsumoto began to bug Hitsugaya wondering what was on his mind. Finally after pestering the boy for house, Matsumoto broke him, and Hitsugaya stuttered on his worry. "How can I see her again?". Matsumoto knew what he meant. How can he see Hinamori ever again, being the one that wished to protect her, and it was his blade that impaled her, putting her through that life threatening situation. Matsumoto knew she didn't have the best advice to give to this guy, but he had to do something, because being so distracted would only make things worse.

Hitsugaya was depressed for days and weeks on the issue at hand, but eventually, he had to see her. He had to no matter what, but confronting her after such an event was something so rough, he didn't know what to do. After that long, finally opening the door to his office and stepping in, was a tired girl wearing off duty clothing, and with an arm brace. It was Hinamori. Hitsugaya didn't move from his desk. Instead, his eyes just focused on her, scared of what to say or do. Hinamori stepped in closing the door behind her and looking at Hitsugaya with a smile. "Hello Shiro-chan" was all she had to say for Hitsugaya to do something. He stood up, walked over to her, and looked her in the eyes. "I told you not to call me that..." and Hinamori, immediately jumped on Hitsugaya hugging him tenderly. Hitsugaya was going to throw her off, but was instead at peace knowing she was okay, and that she didn't hate him for doing such a terrible thing. Hitsugaya sat her down as he learned that Matsumoto went to visit Hinamori every day in the hospital and explained to her what had happened back when the Gotei faced Aizen. Hinamori completely understood and forgave Hitsugaya for his mistake. Hitsugaya on the otherhand, wasn't able to forgive himself. He declared to Gin years ago, that if anyone would make Hinamori drop blood, he would kill them, yet it was HIS blade that went through her. Hinamori could see that Hitsugaya was having problems with this issue so she smiled next to him, telling him that he wasn't to worry. This silly war is over, and they are alive.

She was right...

Many years have passed and Hitsugaya's countless training efforts finally paid off, as he was able to control his Zanpaktou's abilities to their most. After many years, his Bankai's flowers disappeared meaning that the duration of his bankai was no longer an issue. He grew and grew, finally reaching the size of about 6 feet and 1 inch. He was taller than Hinamori, and he appeared around the age of 21 years. He was an adult now, and considered no longer that of a child prodigy. Instead he was considered one of the most powerful shinigami in the Gotei 13, and one of the most respected Captains of his time. Hitsugaya with the help of Matsumoto and Hinamori, became a well respected Captain and lead of the 10th Division, and the Gotei 13.
