My Wish Came True [Rukia/Hisana]
Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:54 pm
It had been....hectic. When Hisana had first encountered the Shinigami, there had been a rush. That name being used again.... but this time...differently. She'd been referred to as Lady Kuchiki? That sounded...Familiar. But she'd hardly cared. Shiro had been taken by them and they had promptl taken him to the Infirmary. She'd been so relieved, that she hadn't even realized the looks they had been giving her. She didn't know what was transpiring, but before she knew it, she was asked to go with them.
Would Shiro be ok? She wasn't sure, but she agreed to go with them, and she'd been brought in and placed in a room. They had been talking a lot, they seemed unsure of what to do with her at worst. Something about potential danger, but also the Kuchiki family. She didn't understand... but she had found herself in a comfortable room, with two shinigami standing outside the door.
She would have tried to talk to them, but she had found herself....exhausted. And so she had taken a seat on a rather comfortable chair and promptly fallen asleep. How long had she been there? But the sound of footseps outside roused her from her rest, and she sat up, taking a moment to gently rub her eyes... sighing softly as she took a moment to....get her bearings, remembering where she was as she heard the door to the room slide open and she turned, curious who was coming to see her.
And blinking owlishly when she saw who was standing there.
"Rukia?"

RUKIA KUCHIKI
It had already been enough to get Rukia's attention when she heard that Shiro had been hurt. She'd dropped what she was doing at the 7th Division and ran, utilizing shunpo well beyond what she typically did around the Soul Society. This, compared to a lot of other things, had earned her full attention. But when she came into the room, she found that it wasn't simply guards there to greet her. They'd tried to tell her what she should be ready for, but she was in such a hurry that she brushed it all off.
Maybe she shouldn't have, though, because the face that met hers wasn't one she thought she would ever see again.
"Hi... Hisana..?"
This wasn't right. Right? No, she had to be seeing things. But she wasn't and trying to convince herself of that was a complete waste of time. Was it really her? It had to be, or the family wouldn't have let her come here. There were questions constantly posing themselves in Rukia's mind, only to be immediately answered and met with a new question. She didn't even fully know how to react to what she was seeing. What should she do? Hug her? Cry? All of it seemed wrong, all of it seemed right. In the end, she just stood there, stunned.

Hisana couldn't help but be a bit ...dumbstruck as well, her eyes wide for just an instant before something much softer overcame her. It was ....it was her. Just as Shiro had said.... something within her bad been afraid that he was mistaken. But this was it. It wasn't a haze of various other memories clawing at her mind. This was Rukia. HER Rukia. Not some facsimile conjured by guilt or similarity. How many times had she thought she'd found someone? For once....Hisana didn't feel that ...airy...ethereal sensation. The feeling of so much swimming around her head that everything seemed.....dull and unreal. But this was clear. There was no reason for her soul to shroud itself in warm memories.
"Rukia....." Her voice was soft....gentle as a smile crossed her features. It was.....it was all coming back. It wasn't...JUST the pain. The Guilt. The sorrow. The clawing at her heart in trying to undo a mistake. She remembered it all.... "You....really did become a Shinigami..." She noted softly, before that smile widened, deepened with gentle mirth. "You....have no idea how happy I am to see you like this..." She reached up and gently covered her mouth, eyes drifting closed as she felt ....a weight off of her heart. Ah..... but....She promptly sat back down and shook her head. "I'm so sorry.... you must have so many questions. Shiro is fine, his wounds weren't serious. He's going to be okay." She assured her sister, gesturing for Rukia to take a seat at the table she had dosed off at.
One thing at a time.

RUKIA KUCHIKI
"That's...that's good."
What else was Rukia supposed to say to that? Even hearing what Hisana said, hearing that reassuring voice, how could she even begin to process this? She'd long since accepted that she wouldn't ever see her sister again, and even as she took a seat, she felt as though this was all just a dream.
"I...don't know where to start. I want to ask a lot of things. How you're here, what happened. Just... I don't know. I'm just happy to see you."
She wanted to be even more glad to see her, should have been. But how could she just take something like this in stride? It was one of the most jarring, surprising things that could have happened.

She......wished she knew how this was effecting Rukia. She had .... no idea what sort of experience this was. She'd......died. Passed on. And so much more, that it was crazy that she'd even managed to get where she was. And looking back......she could barely wonder how she'd gotten here with herself......intact. Yet here she was, watching as Rukia struggled to grasp. And she .......couldn't think of many reasons not to answer her. But even so.....
"I.... have to say. I don't entirely know. I died.....that much I know. It wasn't some....trick or ploy." She noted softly, folding her hands into her lap as she ....tried to think. "I don't......know a lot of what happened. I don't know.....what happened when I died. I really wish I knew. The first thing......that I can remember. Is....waking up in the Desert. Outside of a pale white castle.... For just an instant....I sensed you. And .....the feeling of your spirit made me open my eyes, and .....then it was gone." She reached up and .....gently touched her fingertips to her throat. The tiniest peeling away. A brief exposure of that hole in her neck. Her hollow hole. And just as quickly, it was gone again. " I honestly don't know all the details. My ....memory has been. all over the place. I.....I don't think I've even been fully lucid until I ran into Shiro out in the Rukongai. And.....suddenly he was protecting me from the people there."
It was really....about all she had. There was so much she only had ....partial information on. And still... she coldn't help but ....tilt her head. Smiling gently. "Shiro certainly is someone. Bye the way. As soon as he realized who I was, he seemed dead set on protecting me. Are you two ....close?"' She asked with a warm smile. She KNEW this was....you know....about her and all that. But . As Rukia's sister, she really COULDN'T help but smile a bit at Rukia, a little proud at this ......particularly honorable young man that she seemed to have ...befriended. She couldn't help but bring it up.

RUKIA KUCHIKI
Part of Rukia wanted to hear more. She wanted to know what had happened to her sister, what she'd gone through, what possibly could have kept the two of them separate for so long. But the mention of that desert, the realization that the two of them had been so close all those years ago--
She didn't want to hear any more, after all. She didn't want to dwell on the past. Should she have explained everything that had happened? Maybe. Eventually, sure. But she didn't think inundating Hisana with information was the way to interact right now. She'd rather just...bond. Talk. Be sisters.
"He's...he's a good guy, yeah. I guess I'm not surprised he'd help you like that, I'd rather it have been him than a lot of other people..."
The question from Hisana probably would have caught her much more off guard in any other circumstance, had her on the defensive and more than a touch embarrassed. But, honestly, there probably wasn't any question she could ask that would have been more of a shock than her just being here to begin with.
"We're...close. We've been...dating. For a while now."
That didn't really change how awkward she was about saying it, though.

She ....could tell something was on Rukia's mind. But at this point it was anyone's guess. She simply hoped she wasn't....worrying too much. Ah...there was so much she had to piece together...and truly ...she wished that she had better answers for her. But ...she didn't want to go prying into her own memories. She ...didn't honestly know what she'd find. And for just one brief second, even worse: she didn't know what she'd done behind that mask. Maybe she didn't want to remember.
Thankfully, they had another subject to discuss, and Hisana couldn't help but smile fondly in response to Rukia's assessment, and reveal that the two of them had been dating. She couldn't ...help but sigh in relief. A ...fond memory crossing her thoughts. Well... as fond as she had of those times. "I'm happy to hear that. I'm happy seeing...you doing so well. When they first saw me....I think they mistook me for you. They called me Captain Kuchiki." She noted softly and smiled. pleased that Byakuya had upheld his promise to her. " hope things haven't been too difficult for you. The nobles.... from what I can remember, can be a bit ....difficult at times. But some of them are quite nice! You wouldn't believe it with some of the things that go on. But there are....plenty of Nobles with surprisingly kind hearts." She noted with a soft, recalling smile on her face. One that was.....complicated.
But those eyes refocused on Rukia and she brightened back up. "But you didn't come here to see me." She noted with a fond smile, nodding to the other side of the waiting room, to where Shiro was. She gave a gentle look to her sister. "I don't believe I'll be going anywhere soon. You can take a moment to go check on him." She noted softly. understandingly.

RUKIA KUCHIKI
"Captain, huh? I guess people are really holding out hope that I'll take over the 7th..."
There was a certain degree of irritation in Rukia's voice as she said that, though she supposed it really should have been expected. After all, with all the reorganizing of the Gotei lately, she had no doubt that people were expecting her to step up in the organization. But that didn't mean she wanted to, or that she would. It was...well, it just wasn't something she wanted.
"I guess you're right. Sorry, I...yeah, I want to make sure he's doing okay."
If there was ever something that would make her conflicted, it was the feeling of having to step away from her sister to check on Shiro. Of course she wanted to make sure he was alright, but this was a reunion she hadn't ever really anticipated. Still, she didn't think Hisana would be going anywhere, and Rukia stood up to go, still a bit hesitant.
"I'll be back soon, alright?"

Hisana couldn't help but chuckle a little, making note of the interesting expression on the woman's face. "I'm afraid I'm not really familiar with what ....that sort of job entails. But at least from my perspective, people seem to have a great deal of trust in you. I'm proud of you. At the very least." She noted softly, feeling..... a bit silly. To be proud of something Rukia clearly disliked....she supposed it was ....selfish of her.
All the more....she paused, glancing up and noticing that Rukia seemed to be ...hesitating?
For just one moment she wasn't actually sure what was happening. And then.... she realized.
And a gentle smile spread across her face. Not just....happy. But warm and flattered. Unexpectedly. When it occurred to her that....Rukia didn't want to leave her. She WANTED to spend time with her. And something about that brought tears to bud in her eyes. She'd imagined this situation so many times. And she had braced herself...for Rukai to want nothing to do with her. She'd abandoned her, hadn't she? She had so many memories of these things. 'I never needed you before, why would I need you now?'. Wasn't that the line she had so many memories of? Was that not the tale she'd lived thousand of times through these haunting memories?
And yet....here she was. Standing up, Hisana made her way over to Rukia and offered a warm, kind look. "If you like, we can check on him together. He DID save me. So I admit, I have been checking on him as well."

RUKIA KUCHIKI
"I've done my best."
That was really all that Rukia could say on the matter, but it did cross her mind that it might not have been as true as it could have been. She'd done her best, that much was true, but she wasn't exactly sure she could say the same these days. Wasn't she one of the most accomplished shinigami in the Gotei? But she was still avoiding any responsibility.
Running from the past. Go figure.
"That...sounds nice. It'd be better than going in alone, I think."
Of course, she couldn't stop thinking about that first thought that'd crossed her mind. Maybe...maybe she should actually do something. She'd have to think about that.
