What even is this ability? How many Midoris could there be at a time? Are they all just as strong? Are they even clones? Elyss isn’t one for playing guessing games, so the very act of thinking about this fight has her more pissed than she’d ever admit. Straightforward powers are more her thing simply because there doesn’t have to be an incalculable number of possibilities for each action to take. Besides, how is she supposed to contend with six different Midoris at the same time?
Whatever, she’ll just do things the way she always does, even if pointless. It’s not like she has time to process all the ways out of this situation anyway, so she factory resets her old habits. The blood splattering from her shoulder as she’s cut painted the ground and the two fighters. Elyss grimaced, feeling her muscles cut away like tissue, but she’s not that frail that she was simply torn asunder, especially as she dropped her Zanpakuto as before, one hand grabbing the sword in her shoulder, her hand feeling itself bleed against the blade.
“Well, let’s see…” Elyss found herself grunting, her body twisting as she brought her left side up, a fist coming right for Midori’s face. Would this slow the woman down? Was taking a sword into her side and grabbing it enough to get just one hit in? There’s no reason to even be going this hard, but here she is ignorant of her own health just to try to get any shot in. She wouldn’t mind if it failed. That just means this fight wasn’t something she could win as she is anyway. Words, fists, swords: whatever it is, the right or wrong is all just subjective.

KOIZUMI MIDORI
Midori hadn't fully anticipated that Elyss would simply accept the blade sinking into her, and as it was held there, the other selves of hers disappeared, though not before the blood that splattered across her simply appeared on them all. After all, it wasn't as if there were truly multiple of her. She simply moved quickly enough to exist in so many places at once.
Releasing the sword in order to step back, the moment of opportunity was still enough for Elyss' fist to graze across her face. It wasn't much, hardly enough to even be called a wound, but there was still a mark across her cheek. Without a sword in her hand, there was only one Midori, and she offered a faint smile as she wiped some of Elyss' blood from her own face.
"Taking risks like that is dangerous, but I admire that tenacity."
Midori picked up another of the chipped, dulled blades that littered the ground, though she did not split off any of her speed clones just yet. It wouldn't be as practical now, knowing that Elyss had the opportunity to put together how it worked, even if just in part.

"Tch... Against people who dwarf you, the only way to do anything is by being risky."
Though, now it's going to be even harder to land a hit, even if something as small as a scratch. Midori knows her temperament now. Elyss is willing to pull out a lot of random shit in a fight, but it's all for nothing if the opponent knows to expect the unexpected. Midori's the type with the ability to react to it all too. Elyss'll have to think of something truly bizarre to ever land anything again, but that's a worry for the nearing future. The redhead could only pull the sword from her shoulder, tossing the ancient blade to the side. Blood dribbled from her shoulder, coating her outfit a darker shade, but it seemed to not disturb the wounded at all. Elyss even made a show out of it by rolling her sliced shoulder, testing its flexibility.
"So... Want to start the tango again, or have I become the man in our little exchange?"

KOIZUMI MIDORI
"I guess that's true enough."
It was almost amusing to see Elyss remain so confident, even after the two of them had traded blows that were decidedly unequal. Midori had to admit that was admirable, even if she personally wouldn't have considered it a good course of action. Some people were simply willing to throw things like "safety" to the wind if it meant a victory, she supposed.
"You're a long way from leading in this little dance of ours. But we can keep this going as long as you need."
Midori didn't mind letting herself cut loose a bit, and she certainly had a genuine interest in helping someone else come to grips with their own zanpakuto. She took up her stance, a fairly orthodox one with little fanfare, and kept her eyes on Elyss.
"If you want to take charge, then come on."

"Careful. One careless mistake, and you might go home with an upset stomach."
It was as empty a threat as it could be. Elyss knows where she stands, but she's going to pretend she's as capable as anyone else in this situation. Willingly agreeing that you're out of your league just isn't how she rolls. It's best to be confident until the very end. If only she could practice such a thing outside of combat, but there's something about the blood leaking from her body that excites her. Well, this situation is probably similar to every other situation that's made her realize the sadism in the back of her head. She can hide it behind as much justification as she could, but it doesn't change the fact that she's enjoying herself.
If only her body wasn't growing tired. She can feel the effect of the energy coursing through her veins weighing her down. The wound she wears seemed to start bleeding just that bit more, but Elyss isn't going to say anything about it. All she does is flex her hands a bit, seeing if they'll still form fists before her shoulders sagged somewhat. With a deep breath, she sighed, but that sigh was quickly followed by her picking herself up and rushing towards Midori. There's no plan here. All Elyss wants to do is land a hit, so she just throws her fists wildly at the other woman. It's like a boxer trying jabs and straights and uppercuts just to get their opponent to open up. Sadly, Elyss knows she's not going to get anywhere with this.

KOIZUMI MIDORI
It was already quite obvious that Elyss was running out of steam, but Midori wasn't the sort of woman that would let up simply on that account. Instead, she stepped back, her speed allowing her to simultaneously dodge the incoming blows and immediately counterattack with a sweeping slash. She could have gone for a killing blow, of course, but there would be no reason for that.
"Think so? I haven't needed to step away from a fight for centuries. Maybe one day you'll be able to reset that clock."
Midori's defense was hardly so weak that someone like this could open it up, and she was able to return to a safe position almost immediately after her single strike. Rather, her own mastery of combat was simply at a level well beyond her opponent's. Frankly, she was impressed Elyss had been able to keep up at all.

"Dang. You're old. Must have been cooped up somewhere for a while. I didn't know you existed before Murasaki."
Who cares about getting slashed, Elyss didn't. That's why her left arm is bleeding, the long cut cascading with blood. Again with the needless endangerment, huh? Guess she'll never learn. Elyss knows she's not bad at combat, but she also knows she never cared for growing as of late. She's been too focused on other things. Besides, this fight is all banter. As if Elyss is expecting to win. Seeing how strong Murasaki is, why would the redhead ever hope to beat Midori anytime soon. There's just too much she has yet to learn for that kind of fantasy to be made a reality.
"I'm not hurting to reset anyone's clock though. I simply move myself the way I feel..."
And, she's starting to feel a bit tired. It's not an endangering tiredness, but Elyss can feel something about her body wearing down. Her skin feels raw, like something could easily cut into her if it wanted to. She doesn't bother focusing on the feeling though and puts her hands back up. A simple gesture for Midori to come on is all the redhead gave.

KOIZUMI MIDORI
"Oh yeah?"
The last thing Elyss said stood out to Midori, even more than the rest of their conversation. That feeling of going whatever way felt natural, that sense of flow. It was what she herself had pursued relentlessly for centuries, and what she had ultimately found.
"They keep me in storage for the big problems. Of course, now I'm down here. Isn't that something?"
She certainly wasn't letting Elyss in on any of Zero Division's secrets just because she liked the girl. Midori was a professional, after all, one of the best operatives the Onmitsukido had had back in the day. Hm, speaking of, she really ought to talk to Murasaki about that issue, but they'd get there later.
"That's a good outlook to have. Move the way that comes naturally. Live the way you think is right."
With one step, Midori once more approached Elyss, her blade moving to cut across the woman's chest. Of course, it wasn't intended to be too terribly deep of a cut. It wasn't a killing blow, because Midori had no intention to kill now. She wanted to cultivate someone like this.

Well, if Midori is the big girl in town, then there's an exchange student nearby, yeah? Elyss is the type to ponder too. As someone who's quick to jump into the front of conflict, a situation requiring this woman of all people is something the redhead unfortunately is now wary of. However, this isn't the time to try and pry information out of her opponent. Elyss is focused on simply surviving, and she's doing a bad job at it. Instead of trying to dodge the blade coming across her chest, she dove into it.
Specifically, she moved her body sideways, her injured shoulder positioning itself to be where the redhead was hit first. Though, as the sword drove itself across her body, Elyss rammed her other side against it. More specifically, she brought up her right hand and used her palm to catch the pommel of Midori's sword. That left her holding onto the woman's hand, and Elyss isn't sure how adept Midori would be at simply overpowering her or escaping her grasp. Another rash decision, yeah, but Elyss isn't ready to shy away from this fight just yet. With the sword in her shoulder again and Midori's hand held tight, maybe this is the redhead's chance. The only available move however; a simple headbutt, right for the older woman's jaw.

KOIZUMI MIDORI
Such recklessness was admirable, certainly, but it also wouldn't be enough to stop Midori in a genuine fight. After all, she was limiting herself to Elyss' own level for the sake of pushing the woman. This was intended to be a lesson, a question of finding herself rather than simply a slaughter. As her blade suck into the same wound it had already opened, and Elyss grabbed onto her hand, Midori allowed herself a small smile, and deigned not to simply crush the woman with spiritual pressure or to blast her away with kido. As Elyss' headbutt slammed into her jaw, she hardened herself with only enough energy to keep the blow from genuinely harming her.
After all, she had already long since determined that when it came to sheer physical toughness, Elyss' body exceeded even her own. She'd wondered after that, at least at first, but it was rather abundantly clear exactly how such a thing might come to be now, having watched her fight.
"And what now?"
Midori's body was still tensed, still ready for the slightest motion. After all, they were now in quite the situation, weren't they? This close, either of them one incorrect action from complete defeat. Elyss' headbutt had rattled Midori, certainly, but only inasmuch as it had been surprising. When it came to genuine readiness to fight, she knew that she was still well ahead of the younger woman.
