» Appearance Written: Kansho is a man of slightly above average height and well-built body. His skin is somewhat pale still, unmarred by scars of life-altering battles. His palms are smooth, but the fingers are callused from past days of sword training.

The most notable feature that Kansho possesses is his kind face. His eyes, if not almost closed sometimes, are smiling and warm. His mouth is always set on a relaxed smile. His auburn hair is a mass of short, windblown curls, forever untamed, though trimmed at the back. Scruff runs down both sides of his face, meeting in a short beard on his chin.

» Personality: Kansho is, upfront, an unassuming and accommodating sort of guy. He is slow to anger, and—sans duty-related activities—his patience might as well be infinite. His quiet smiles and habit of saying soothing nothings are quick to put people at ease; his cheerier grins and relaxed disposition are affable enough to strike up an acquaintance with strangers.

He is huge on giving consideration to others' feelings. He is content to place himself at the background and let his companion do all of the talking, should they desire it; should they not, then he can think of some anecdote or another to put them at ease around him. He frequently agrees with people's opinions, if they ask it of him, and does not hesitate to attempt compromises when conflict seems to rise from misunderstandings between his peers. His answers don't lack for sincerity too—one can be assured that if Kansho thought their rather gaudy outfit to be "fine," then their clothes really are fine.

His tendency to be eager to please and agreeable may make it seem like Kansho is gullible, oblivious, and spineless; to some extent, he really is all of these. If one is obtuse enough and throws enough far-fetched ideas up in the air, then they may make him agree to some absurd thing. His preference to diffuse a situation by means of talking it out has branded him a weak and cowardly sort of person to some. He is not one to bear a grudge, and indeed does not begrudge those who deem him as such.

A steady heart belies his apparent weakness, however. Kansho is dedicated to those that he does best: shinigami work, be it papers, patrols, or training. His beliefs—that of the Gotei's and his own convictions—may stand on flimsy ground as dictated by his friends, but he holds true to what he believes to be right and proper. What lack of uptake he has on saying what actually is on his mind—should he see the need to be contrary—he covers by thoroughly and benignly explaining his side. He is reliable enough in the field of duty, and does his tasks to the best of his abilities as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Kansho is working on being formidable in battle. He is cautious, frequently refusing to give in to chance. While this trait tends to clash with the more instinctive part of his nature, Kansho sticks with his logic-oriented decisions more often than not— Although a long fight can wear on his patience and make him frustrated, which results to making bad assessments and decisions.



» History: The Wakabayashi is a relatively little-known noble family. Despite their status and substantially vast estate, they have chosen to stay away from nobility mostly due to the family's simple means of living and general disdain of society—although the disdain has actually risen from resentment. The low number of high-reiryoku individuals—and lower number of those individuals who made a name for themselves—that they have produced through the generations, and the humiliation that those in the higher ranks have imposed on them due to this fact has always been a sore point for older members of the clan. The heads' marriages to daughters of slightly higher-ranking noble families in hopes of strengthening their heirs' spiritual power reserves did little, and the knife dug and twisted on their honor a little deeper with each passing year.

Kansho has always been a well-meaning child, eager to play with his siblings and young cousins, and respectful but affectionate to his parents and older folk, but he was a fluke: the sheer enormity and power of his reiryoku has been hitherto unheard of in the entire family. His parents feared for his life and watched over him like a hawk while maintaining their distance from the jealous and resentful heads of the minor branches of the clan. His young days were filled with books, giggles, and the occasional scrape or two from playing with his sisters and brothers, and the relatives that his parents have allowed near him. One could say that Kansho was not such a problem child, and really, he was very far from one.

It was all well and good until a couple of years later, when as a child almost to his adolescent years, he took to reading his great-grandfather's books about the shinigami.

If pressed, Kansho would only assert that his reiatsu erupted out of him on that fateful day. His power did get out of hand, that much was true: He had gotten himself engrossed and excited with his reading that his energy repeatedly heated and chilled his surroundings, which resulted to shattering and crumbling half of the estate, and choking half of his family near to certain death. He always left that destruction part out of his retellings.

Kansho was made to take the entrance exam to the Academy a year after the incident. He was one of the youngest students of the first class.

His days in the Academy passed by in a blur. He did not particularly excel in anything during his stay. Kansho was not noticeable on his own, and while he was friendly to his classmates, he did not exert the effort to make himself known. Teachers knew him by his above-average intelligence, to be sure, and aptitude and preference to Zanjutsu with two swords, but brighter students outshone his academic performance.

This results to a certain field of altered temperature around his body, which adapts to Kansho's change in stance or position. Additionally, he can change the temperature of anything that gets in contact with his body.

Kansho felt the air rush out of his lungs in a gasp as he slammed the rugged side of the cliff. He slid to the ground in a shudder, swords falling from the slackening hold of his hands.

In between pants, he eyed the Hollow standing a couple of meters away from him. The blasted thing was not even fazed by his attacks—it deflected every hit that he threw. Then it got a hold of him when he was stupidly letting his guard down, and flung him to the rock behind him.

He could have chilled the damned beast to the core, then heated it until it shattered in front of him. He could have thrown a blast of Kidō to stall its movements or stop it altogether. He could have chilled it just a little, just enough to slow it down, and then struck when he was certain that the Hollow could no longer move fast enough to react—

But he did none of those things, he has lost his calm a long time ago, and he's getting rather tired by the minute.

He had been so stupid.

He roared his Zanpakutō's release in frustration: "Collide and wander, align and settle, Suigyōmatsu!"

The air crackled and popped with the hot and cold waves that radiated from his swords.
