» Appearance Written:Hanshin stands at 6’7”, with a densely-muscled, Athletic build, sporting a Tan skin tone, and Dark Brown, wavy hair. His sclerae (the ‘whites’ of one’s eyes) are white, with red eyes that go from dark red (when calm or sad) to bright red (when angry, etc), and dark red irises that go small when he has an intense adrenaline rush, giving the impression of him having no pupils at all. Despite the dense musculature, Hanshin has a very thin, wiry frame, often giving the impression of being emaciated when he is clothed.

II. Personality

» Personality:Hanshin has always been very quirky and awkward, often resulting in his being abused by his superiors in the Gotei 13, helping to form him into an introverted, shy, and withdrawn individual, and even is reflected in his silence in the presence of others above him. His expression is often serious, somber, or even melancholic at times, reflected in his red eyes often appearing dark (blood) red. Despite having climbed and fallen down virtually every rank in the Gotei 13, often due to his (seeming) lack of ambition, or his reluctance to hurt others, or the death of a superior (Lieutenant or Captain) and being shifted to another Division when the new higher-ups came in, Hanshin has long become dejected and burned out about his station in the Gotei 13.

When he was younger, Hanshin cursed his bad luck with rage, anger and ferocity, which – despite his intensity, and lack of self-control – seemed to inspire some to promote him. After a long while of this, however, he seemed to take on a weaker, despairing, and almost feeble quality about his behavior. He would often whine, or even cry, overcome by melancholy brought on by his dashed hopes and aspirations. He never complained nor intentionally made a big deal out of his sadness, but as it grew and he became more depressed, he started to decline in his performance, resulting in his gradually being demoted down the ranks and then shunted into another Division when his superiors lost respect for him.

Despite his sad resignation, he still finds joy in his duty to the Gotei 13. He holds no hope any more of ever being able to take on more responsibility, or achieve the greatness he had once yearned for in his youth, he still will occasionally find a spark of his old passion when making trips into Rukongai (interacting and socializing with it’s citizens, and so on), or when traveling to the Human World.

Most of his time, when he’s not on-duty, is spent either sleeping, with his nose in a book, or training by himself, and he will often get up and leave if others come to wherever he is, often apologizing profusely for the inconvenience, even if the people he apologizes to don’t consider him an inconvenience.

III. History

» History:

Birth or Appearance of an Anomaly

A very long time ago, a young boy with light tan skin, long black hair, and a flat, unresponsive face, seemed to appear at random in the 22^nd District of Rukongai. As many souls came to Rukongai without memory of their past (especially those who suffered traumatic deaths), Hanshin was simply accepted by a makeshift ‘family’ (as most souls come together to form familial units). Shy and withdrawn, the young Hanshin – armed only with his name – was slow to pick up on the things taught to him by his new family, but was always willing to work hard, under the direct instruction of one of his new brothers, or sisters, or the parental figures of his household.

Hanshin was odd, in that he was constantly hungry, an extreme form of the small hunger that often affected Souls with high spiritual power, but he never exhibited any traits of possessing high spiritual power. Unbeknownst to him and others, he was harboring his spiritual power in his body, in his new reishi-founded musculature, as well as in his very skin. Although it wasn’t very obvious, this manifested in his physical strength steadily climbing as he outwardly aged, going from fetching water and going on shopping errands, to tearing down trees with a bear hug and a tug, or wrestling a wild boar and easily suppressing it, often after letting the boar ram into his body, then crushing it with a bear hug, or striking it hard enough to kill it through blunt force trauma.

Despite his impressive strength, Hanshin hated to hurt others, even wild animals, and even though he understood the necessity of what he did when finding animals his family would prepare for dinner (or skin and prepare for selling at the market), he often cried himself to sleep, haunted by memories of his killing the animals, often envisioning the animals having families who would dearly miss the family member he had killed. At some point into his maturity, after he had displayed an increasing aptitude for memorizing the lessons taught to him about Rukongai, the Soul Society, and how things happened when one died, the father-figure of the house he lived in urged Hanshin to go to the Shino Academy, to study, train and become a Shinigami, figuring Hanshin’s great strength and gentleness would be an asset to the Protection Squads.

Shino Academy Years

Hanshin was smart, and aced his classes with not only latent talent, but also a commitment to studying hard, and practicing everything he was taught ritualistically. He still had no memory of any life before his being in Rukongai, but by this point, his entire focus was on his desire to grow strong, to memorize everything he was taught, and even – as his aptitudes became more noticeable – to try and impress his classmates, to try and earn their approval. Unfortunately, regardless of his steadily growing skills and his commitment to his studies, he still had difficulty talking with others, so it was mostly for nought, as his classmates considered him ‘weird’ and would not eat with him during lunch, nor socialize with him outside of the hours of study. Hanshin would spend any of his free time, up until graduation, either reading in one of the academy’s great libraries, sleeping in his dormitory, or sneaking off the Academy grounds and finding someplace with a tree, some shade, and running water, to try and escape his woes in deep contemplation.

GRADUATION and the Gotei 13

Hanshin graduated with full marks, and made his debut as a member of the 2^nd Division, where his exceptional skills in hand-to-hand combat were an asset to the Division, and he did most of his learning rounds working in the Maggot’s nest, looking after the prisoners, and subduing any attempts the prisoners made to escape. During lulls in his work hours, he would take the time to talk to the inmates, and even listen to some of their stories. While many had been half-mad with avarice and delusions of grandeur, some were more modest, having accepted the consequences of their thoughtless and destructive actions, and would often impart wise words upon their charge. More than a few times, a prisoner would almost escape as Hanshin was entranced in a story one of the inmates was telling him, and each time he was harshly reprimanded, but it only took a handful of times before he learned his lesson, and would always make sure he was ready to pounce upon a would-be escapee if they tried to make a move on his watch, although his caring watch over the inmates didn’t become any crueler, nor harsher for it.

Time Passes, Division Switches & The Snuffing Out Of An Ambitious Spirit

Hanshin had notoriously bad luck when it came to Divisions, as a result of various Lieutenants or Captains dying in the field, or in defense of the Soul Society. The rapport he took DECADES to establish with some of his superiors would be undone when those superiors were replaced, and his awkwardness and apparent discomfort in social situations would disgust whomever would take over that Division, resulting in Hanshin being shuffled into another Division. He would occasionally gain promotions, even becoming a Lieutenant once or twice (for different Divisions respectively), but then either something would happen to his Captain, or one would be promoted to serve the Soul King directly, or he would have a moment of weakness and show mercy at a time when it was inappropriate, and receive demotions.

Perhaps it was Hanshin’s passion for his duties as a Shinigami, and as a member of the Gotei 13, that kept him from his career as a Shinigami ending, and/or joining the inmates of the Maggot’s Nest (where the inept and/or talentless often went if they couldn’t hack it in the Gotei 13, but hadn’t committed any crimes worthy of execution). Whether he was stripped of his Seat, or simply occupying a 10^th or 8^th Seat, he always showed the utmost devotion when going to the Human World to Konso restless spirits, or to purify Hollows. When he would occasionally meet a human who could see and hear him, he would often do what he could to encourage them in their day-to-day lives (assuming they didn’t run screaming, or think he was some demented Cosplayer), often giving vague allusions to ‘A world after this one, where the possibilities are endless’. Rather than just quietly Konso’ing the restless spirits he met, he would often talk to them of their lives when they were alive and human, and help bring them some degree of peace-of-mind before he sent them on their way to the Soul Society.

He is, easily, the oldest member of the Gotei 13 to have not gained significant rank or influence (and to have sustained it) by the time of having reached 1,000 years of age. He has not openly disclosed just how far into his training, or his communing with his Zanpakutō he has gotten, but it is suspected that he has probably made significant headway in his meditations and studies, although nobody has seen him unseal his Zanpakutō, or…if anyone has, they haven’t spoken to anyone else about it.

Hanshin has currently been in a position of being an Unassigned Shinigami, his primary duty simply being to patrol the Human World and protect it from Hollows, and to Konso spirits who have not yet made their journey to the Soul Society, and he has shown no indication of seeking anything greater for himself.

Hanshin's Zanjutsu is very refined and precise, but he still hasn't fully mastered it's use, due to still feeling awkward and uncomfortable with wielding his sword with both hands, and relying instead upon fighting with one hand wielding the sword at a time, while the other hand is either at his side, or behind his back.

Expert Tactician
Having trained under the best of the Secret Mobile Corps and 2nd Division of the Gotei 13, Hanshin has put his great, powerful mind to use, and sharpened it into that of a master tactician and strategist, being able to swiftly analyze, assess and than react to a situation very quickly, on an instinctive level. When fighting a superior foe, he will often feign being out of breath, or unable to fight, in order to try and create an opening in his opponent's defenses. If the foe proves weaker than himself, he will usually remain on the defensive and evasive, wearing out his opponent, then knocking them unconscious afterwards.

VI. Sealed Powers

» Zanpakutô Name: Nannari ("Anything")

» Zanpakutô Appearance: Hanshin's Zanpakutō, in it's sealed form, takes on the form of a 'Tanto', a sort of miniature, dagger-length Katana of sorts, which he often keeps concealed either in one of his sleeves, in a sock, in a pantleg, or sometimes even at his hip, in plain sight.

» Sealed Zanpakutô Power: Hanshin can change the physical form of his Zanpakutō into any basic, close-range weapon (dagger, sai, nunchaku, knuckles, gauntlets, etc), or any smaller, basic defensive item (buckler, armguards, head protector, etc). It is, most often, a shortstaff, gnarled walking stick, or concealed in the form of some decorative item (necklace, earrings, ring, etc).

VII. Shikai

» Shikai Release Phrase: "Be Strong..."

» Shikai Appearance: Nannari takes on dual form, becoming two Wakizashi with crimson handles, and a cord of crimson cloth at the ends, and a crimson gem in the guard.

» Shikai Abilities: Nannari can take on the form of either two separate weapons/armor/shields, or each can be something different (ie: sword and shield, twin cudgels, two shields, etc), as well as it can now be telekinetically controlled by Hanshin, causing it to return to him at-will, or change direction mid-flight, or even just operate with some degree of semi-sentience.

VIII. Bankai Powers

» ~~Bankai Appearance:~~ Hanshin's robes turn dark red, and a darker-red fur wrap appears around his shoulders. It is incredibly dense, and temperature-resistant (hot, cold), and can soak blunt damage dealt onto it, sometimes even reacting on it's own when it senses it's wearer might be about to get hurt.

» Bankai Abilities: Hanshin's Zanpakutō can now become any number of things (up to 5), control them telekinetically, and even combine them for either greater damage-dealing capabilities, or separate them to confuse or overwhelm a foe. The fur wrap around his shoulders can also respond to threats by rearing up and covering the part of Hanshin's body that might get struck, soaking blunt force trama, and even providing small resistance to sharp blows (but it isn't difficult to pierce by a skilled foe). If the fur wrap is removed from Hanshin's body, it becomes an exact duplicate of him, which can either A.) fight side-by-side with him, or B.) merge with him in order to drastically boost his fighting potential. Hanshin can also, alternately, merge with both his Zanpakutō, and his wrap, and his flesh will turn gray, granting his body the hardness of his Zanpakutō, as well as the blunt-damage resistance of the fur wrap, along with the ability to selectively 'sharpen' parts of his body just before striking with them (to grant them cutting capabilities), such as slicing with a karate chop or kick, etc). He can take on one of three properties: a.) DEFENSIVE: He becomes slow, and the damage he deals becomes drastically less, but he's practically invulnerable, b.) OFFENSIVE: His physical resilience is reduced to it's normal amount, but his speed and strength skyrocket, granting him a significant boost to his offensive capabilities, or c.) UTILITY: He can actually **BECOME A WEAPON** that can fuse with another Shinigami's Zanpakutō (can't be an RPC controlled by this player), thereby drastically augmenting (and boosting) the effects and power of that individual's own Zanpakutō/Weapon/Body/Abilities. This cannot be undone unless the character willingly relinquishes Hanshin's 'Symbiote Form', or they become unconscious, or Hanshin (in 'Symbiote Form') is somehow forcibly extracted from the other person, by someone with greatly superior might than both Hanshin and the other party combined.

[adm]I'm moving this to WIP, you can work on this here.

If you wish for the app to be graded then let me know. As far as I know from our discord conversations you wished to have a high tier or a decent one, whichever it needs more information and content as such.

I, personally, would select a less broad ability set... or come up with some techniques as he has to be adequate in one weapon more than the other. As for everything else, we've already touched on it all.[/adm]

I didn't want a powerful ability, just a versatile and basic ones. This is just a drastically weaker, and non-buff/debuff version of Ex-Quip, albeit restricted to a single item or (in higher levels) two, then (in final stage) up to 5.

I can't think of an age, as I haven't been told how strong he'll be, nor which Division he'll start in, and there's been no formal introduction IC yet.

Once approved, all of it will be hashed out further, and the profile can be amended accordingly. I'm fine being tentatively approved on the basis that his status can be elevated as his story unfolds through play. I'm just uncomfortable writing out 3 novels on him before he's even stepped foot into official Fanon IC yet.

So...ready.
NOTES

• I won't reference a specific age until Hanshin has made his appearance, we've had a few flashbacks, and I have (OOC) seen who wants to have their stories tied into his through Plotting and Development, and have then crossed it by Staff.

• Powers are basic, simple, and while not powerful, that's fine for what I want for Hanshin's build. Even if he were the mightiest Shinigami (and he'll definitely be nowhere NEAR such), these powers wouldn't hold a candle to any of PH's nor Kubo's and that suits me just fine.

• Zanpakutō premise is "Weapons Mastery & Attunement", with no Buffs/Debuffs, nor Offensive/Defensive Powers nor Spells, pure Utility-styled abilities.

• I'd like consideration for "Powerful", and "Well Above Average, Below Elite" . Emphasis on Strength, Acuity, Stamina and Agility. A sort of Pro-Exile Yoruichii build, although we all know Yoruichii would be stronger.

Comments/Notes: Alright, so cross out shikai and bankai. He's not going to have them from the start. 3-1 is what is acceptable for shikai. So you're right there, but not yet. It wouldn't take much for him to get there though. The reason I'm giving this tier is purely based on our grading system, which I gave you more what I had scored for this application.
