Leona Rossi

Song: Old Friends - Artist: N/A - Words:3613

• Name: Leona "Red" Rossi (Her first name translates to "Lion", and her last to "Red", meaning her name roughly translates to Red Lion)
• Titles: None
• Age: 31
• Gender: Female
• Affiliation/Rank: Unaffiliated
• Appearance Description: Leona, with her curved features, fair skin, and well endowed assets, is more than often considered to be a beauty that is pleasant on the eyes. Standing at about 6', well above the average height of other women, Leona towers over most other humans in an almost intimidating manner. If it weren't for her usually calm, friendly facial expressions, she would find herself being much less liked than she actually is. Red hair flows down from atop her head, bordering her face in crimson locks and almost reaching down to her shoulders in length. Most of the time, Leona keeps her bangs swept to either side of her head so as to not block her sky-blue colored eyes. Vision is an important part of her life.

Leona often wears a yellow dress with a large, feathery collar. Around her legs are black thigh high socks, and black high-heeled boots that have metallic plating around the bottom and the toes. In honor of her now deceased lover, she wears a long black jacket around her dress that is kept unbuttoned typically. In her pockets are a box of tarot cards.

Personality
• Personality: Leona is a typically stoic, sometimes relentless person who tends to do what she perceives will benefit her the most. That doesn't mean she'll turn a blind eye to those in need of help, just that when it comes down to the wire Leona will prioritize herself over other people. You have to be at least relatively close to her on a personal level for her to start prioritizing you over her own well being. This is due to the fact that Leona is typically on a strict time schedule, as she often wonders the world in search of either job opportunities or more information on divination and how she may be able to gain powers from it.

When someone gets to know Leona however, they will find she is particularly sarcastic and playful. She isn't quite as serious as she may look, most of the time. Not unless the situation warrants it, that is. It's in her nature to try and help people, as is the point of divination, so she sees no point in not poking fun at a person to see their reaction or to try and lighten the mood. Sometimes though, her humor can come off as a little morbid or self-centered. This is due to her past and how she's had to live her life.

Asides from all that, Leona has a decent amount of both likes and dislikes. She can be picky when it comes to things like people, her food, how she sleeps, or just minor things like that for seemingly no reason. Her excuse is that she "was just born that way" and that they should just deal with it if they don't like it. Even if telling people to deal with something isn't particularly kind, she doesn't necessarily mean it to be rude. There's no point in changing yourself for someone else if you don't truly care about how they see you, now is there?

Often times, when it's late in the day, Leona can be seen drinking various forms of alcohol. It ranges from cheap ales, to oddly flavored ciders, to expensive wines. Her taste isn't very choosy in this regard. Whatever she gets her hands on is typically good enough. Sometimes she'll even think she's an alcoholic, but she doesn't usually drink more than once every few days, occasionally only once a week even. It depends on her mood, as like most people, she tends to drink more to forget her plights, but tries to moderate herself otherwise.

When it comes to straight up intelligence and/or wisdom, Leona is well-above average. Reading about the meanings to the 78 different tarot cards and their relation to human emotion, psyche, and existence tends to do that to you. Learning how each one can also apply to a person and their life, mindset, etc. can also give a person quite the insight to a particular person's mind, especially when your power is literally to always be right in your divinations unless you alter said person's situation/life directly or accidentally.

Leona isn't the most up-to-date on world events. Only the most important things usually reach her ears. Her opinion is that if it doesn't directly affect her or her research, she doesn't really care. After the events of her life, she's gotten extremely used to the fact that it's fight or die in this world. If she has no reason to fight, then she won't die. If she isn't fighting, then she might as well make her life as cushy and comfortable as possible to keep herself happy. Listening to the problems of other people doesn't bother her typically, but too much of it can turn her mood sour, which is part of the reason she doesn't care about the news or world events.

Natural Attributes & Supernatural Powers
• Natural Attributes:

Ties of Fate: Leona is naturally tied to the forces of destiny without the use of Reiatsu. How or when this came to be is unknown, even by Leona herself. All she can assume is that it happened at or sometime just before her birth.

Dowsing: Through any tool that is typically used for "dowsing", (be it a pendulum, dowsing rod, y-rod, etc.) Leona is capable of using the form of divination known as dowsing without the use of reiatsu. Depending on the tool she uses, she can use different forms of Dowsing to perform different tasks. Using rods is for locating specific points. When using a y-rod, Leona can point it in a direction and walk that way until the end of the rod starts to lower. When it does, that means she has locating whatever it is that she's looking for. When using two l-rods, Leona must hold them in a way so that when she finds what she's looking for, the two rods will cross to form an x over what she is looking for.

Using a Dowsing Pendulum is extremely different. When using a dowsing pendulum, Leona will hold it out away from her body and let it hang so it can swing in any direction. She then proceeds to ask the pendulum a question, which she can do verbally or mentally. After that, she determines which direction means yes, no, maybe, or whatever other answer she chooses. The pendulum then swings in a direction to answer the question. For instance, if she asks if she's being followed and she designated that if the pendulum swings right, it means no, and left for yes, whichever direction it swings with that information in her head will then be the answer to the question. It isn't limited to just yes, no, or maybe though.

• Powers:
Tarot Card Abilities: Leona gets various abilities by conjuring Tarot Cards made from her Reiatsu. She then uses the card in a certain way (varying on the card) to activate an effect. Leona can telekinetically create and control her tarot cards on a whim, though the energy that is used to create them varies on the card. Some are more powerful than others, and thus cost more reiatsu

0 - The Fool: The Fool, representing the beginning, has the ability to revert Leona's body to any state it has been in previously. It isn't instantaneous and does take some time before it finishes up, but this ability spends reiatsu to heal Leona or someone else's physical form by reverting their body to a state it had been in before. Leona is fully capable of using this ability from a distance as long as The Fool card is in contact with whoever it is supposed to be healing. It may take an entire post to heal an entire wound during combat based threads, though for plot purposes it may take only a paragraph in a social thread, so as not to hold anything up. Even then, the card is incapable of mass healing or completely fixing a person, as it is only able to focus on one wound at a time. It simply reverses the state of that part of a person's body.

1 - The Magician: Most likely Leona's most used tarot card. The Magician represents consciousness, action, and creation. Creativity through energy. As such, Leona has many a use for this card. It is purely meant for combat due it's properties though, and so she only ever uses it in fights.

The properties of The Magician card are that they are able to release an explosion of reiatsu on a whim, and are very easily made. They are low cost and formed more or less instantaneously from Leona's body. The explosion triggers either on contact with something, or on command depending on Leona's manipulation of them. Using The Magician is like a Hollow using a bala, albeit somewhat more explosive and less concentrated than a bala.

2 - The High Priestess: Representing the subconscious and inner wisdom, with The High Priestess, Leona is capable of planting the card into a solid object and then changing her point of view to the front side of the card. This is similar to watching a computer screen that is showing camera feed, however it becomes all that Leona can see as it takes up her vision entirely.

3 - The Empress: The Empress follows a more archetypical representation of the female being, standing for maternity, love and mercy. Since the divinatory form of the tarot considers the female form is a sign of fertility and the creation of life, that is the primary focus of Leona's powers through this card. With The Empress, Leona is capable of accelerating the growth of life to extreme rates, and can even spawn temporary life from this card or her body. Be it actual living animals, plants, or even mimicked humans, she can create them, if only for a small period of time before they crumble and blow away like dust in the wind. These living beings act as if they were real, any mimicked humans even emitting completely normal mannerisms and personalities. However they only exist for a few minutes before turning to dust and vanishing. Any mimicked humans may be around a 3-3 tier at the most, or weaker if Leona so desires. On the field, they can last about 3 posts before turning to dust and vanishing.

4 - The Emperor: The Emperor represents absolute power, stability, and order through law. As such, Leona can erect a barrier that completely blocks any projectiles that hit it. The barrier can in fact be broken with enough stress, but that is more up to Leona's power versus her opponents power. This barrier is easy to erect but does take power to maintain, and when it gets hit it drains power from Leona.

5 - The Hierophant: A Hierophant is a priest who investigates religious principles or mysteries, and as a tarot card, represents belief, confession, and a search for knowledge. The power Leona gains from this is the ability to influence a confession out of a person when she asks them a question. When someone gets hit with The Hierophant card, it sinks into their body and temporarily becomes a part of their soul. Once that happens, that person's psyche or thought process will be influenced in a certain way based on the question that is asked. It is possible that the character can still not answer the question, but it becomes more difficult. The exact effects differ from each question, as Leona can influence a person's mind in several different ways, but if she improperly influences a person's psyche with the intention of getting a specific answer out of someone, it is possible that she can get the wrong answer. Some examples of what Leona can use the Hierophant to do is make a person assume she is of a particular social status, is of a high rank in a specific organization, make them assume that she has a different personality than what she may actually have, and more. This effect lasts for only a few posts (2 or 3) and can be broken with a surge of willpower, but can be reapplied should Leona hit the person with another Hierophant card.

6 - The Lovers: The Lovers is possibly one of the most complicated cards in the a tarot deck. It represents love or passion, but not specifically for another person. It can be love for another person, or a passion for a specific talent or trait. It can also represent devotion. As an ability for Leona, The Lovers switches the levels of two choice skills. She takes a - in one, and a + in another. This lasts for quite some time, anywhere from 5 posts at the least to 10 at the most, but it continuously drains her reiatsu. Prolonged use is typically avoided. After the 5th, each post that this ability is activated will put physical stress on Leona's body, making her cramp up in several places. Around the 8th or 9th post, she will start to feel faint, as well as get a migraine. After the 10th and final post, she will pass out. This ability is only usable on Leona herself. She cannot alter Master or Grand Master skills with this + and - system.

7 - The Chariot: The Chariot is a card that represents strength through willpower, but also implies that without effort, that strength is either useless or could be one's downfall. With this card, Leona can set her reiatsu literally ablaze, and while she herself remains fine, it literally burns away at her reiatsu until she deactivates this ability. This fire surrounds Leona and her cards, not burning them or her clothes, and rages at about 537.77 degrees Celsius.

8 - Adjustment: Adjustment is the card representing balance, justice, and fairness. When Leona hits someone with an Adjustment card, it will vanish in a small flash of light. From then on, whatever damage Leona takes is mimicked on the other person and vice versa, balancing out their injuries. Any healing done to the other person will also be reflected on Leona, and vice versa. It lasts until that person gets over a mile away from her, or until about 10 minutes (or 3 posts in a combat thread) have passed.

9 - The Hermit: The Hermit represents reclusiveness in order to self-realize and self-reflect on life. For Leona, this card gives her the ability to put herself in a sort of ethereal stasis state that renders her completely unable to move or act, but is intangible and unable to be touched. This only lasts for several seconds in a single post before it wears off completely.

10 - The Wheel of Fortune: A symbol of fate, luck, and destination, the Wheel of Fortune gives Leona the power to literally steal luck from people. Upon hitting someone with the Wheel of Fortune, the forces of Fate will start to work against the target while giving Leona a higher chance of success. Anything she does has a higher chance of success, and whatever the other person does has a higher chance of failing, or a lower chance of success. Not only this, but the victim of the Wheel of Fortune will start having bouts of "bad luck". They may find that an object may be inconveniently placed for them, or that any unstable ground they're standing on may crumble for seemingly no reason. It forces people to be more careful, but even then Fate may find a way to inconvenience said person. This lasts until the person is over a mile away from Leona, or about an hour or 5 posts passes.

11 - Passion: Sometimes called Strength, or The Power, Passion represents the animalistic side of a person and tells us that we should learn to balance it with our humane side. This card, when crushed in Leona's hand, transforms into a large sword of circuit board-like design. At the same time, Leona's fighting style becomes a lot more animalistic. Her attacks become less coordinated and more sporadic and forceful, almost as if she has given into her wild side. This is also the balance to it, as she becomes less aware of her surroundings and more focused on how she can defeat her opponent. Even with this animalistic side to her, she does not completely lose the ability to think rationally, just that she temporarily and partially forgoes her humanity to become more physical and brutal.

The properties of this sword are that it releases an electric current and vibrates at extremely high frequency. The electric current is meant to "fry" a portion of an opponents muscles so they can't use that part of their body properly, and the vibration allows her sword to cut through nearly anything with ease.

12 - The Hanged Man: The Hanged Man is a sign of a need to relax, reflect, and assess a situation even if it's not because of a situation or upcoming event. For Leona, this card alters her nervous system and temporarily slows her perception of time, while her mind is perfectly capable of thinking at what Leona perceives to be normal speeds. This is similar to slowing time, but instead of actually doing that, it instead just alters Leona's mind to perceive the world as moving slower. This includes her body as well, even though her mind thinks at what would be normal speeds.

13 - Death: Death represents the endless cycle of death and rebirth, and for Leona this is one of her most crucial cards. Death is capable of cutting through almost literally anything except barriers that are powerful enough to defend against this card. Creating a Death card is fairly costly, taking quite a bit of energy from Leona. When it cuts through something, however, anything severed from the base of the object turns to dust, returning them to the elements.

14 - The Art: The Art is the ability to solve and combine, like alchemy. With The Art card, Leona is capable of toying with the physical state of matter. For instance, she can turn water into ice or water vapor on a whim at the cost of reiatsu. She needs this card to be in contact with whatever it is altering for it to work.

15 - Devil: The Devil card represents... well, the story of the Devil. It represents absolute freedom and lack of restraint. However, this can also lead to oneself indulging themselves in their deepest desires, which often leads to some kind of punishment or backlash. From this card, Leona can show it to someone, and whoever sees it will be caught in a series of illusions that spawn from that person's deepest desires. No one else will be able to see them but that one person. Not even Leona can see them. These illusions last only a full minute, unless Leona dispels them.

16 - The Tower: The Tower is a sign of the destruction of something that is typically enduring or tough. For Leona, this power is meant to be one of her most destructive. It isn't particularly costly, but definitely moreso than some of her more basic abilities. The destructive powers of The Tower are that it weighs literally 10 tons, but weighs virtually nothing to Leona. When Leona throws this card, it is thrown as if it had the weight of a normal card, but when it hits something it acts as if it weighs ten literal tons.

17 - The Star: The Star is a guiding light in the tarot world and also represents trust and emotional balance. For Leona, the Star allows her to see people's souls in the form of a small star centered around the middle of their chest. She can see these through walls and from a very far distance, as they do illuminate more for Leona the further away she is from them. When she gets close, they start to dim down a little so as not to blind her. This can last as long as Leona wants, but tends to drain her as it happens.

• Pure Abilities: Fateweaver: Leona is capable of foretelling events through divination and learning possible outcomes of people, objects, or herself. When she gets involved, however, she is capable of altering the outcomes of these events to provide more favorable outcomes. This isn't always possible, however, as some fates are set in stone. But with enough effort and maybe a little bit of "luck", she is capable of preventing another tragedy from happening to her or those she cares about.

Background History
• Background: Most of the earlier parts of Leona's life are unimportant. She was born into a small family and grew up as an only child, her parents having decent jobs and getting decent pay. She wasn't rich but she wasn't poor, the things she grew up doing were particularly average, and she was nothing special for most of her life. Most of it. After the first boring 16 years of her life passed, she found herself becoming interested in the occult. Divination is what caught Leona's attention the most, and so she started studying it for several years.

The first thing she learned was about divination through tarot cards. It took several weeks, but she learned basic methods to interpret the immediate future through the major arcana. Leona was excited to have finally memorized what each card meant and how they affected their placement in the divination process. What she didn't expect was to be correct almost all the time. The first thing she predicted was a tragic event happening, but she couldn't pinpoint where, and Leona took note of this flaw. Later that day, she heard an explosion from inside her house.

As the young Leona rushed downstairs to see what had exploded, she found the living room on fire and her parents in literal pieces on the floor while a terrifying horned man stood over them, the blood on his clothes. Even after screaming in horror, the man didn't seem to notice Leona whatsoever. He simply walked out the front door, fire appearing everywhere he walked and over everything he or his clothes touched. The young Leona was left crying as flames consumed her house and what was left of her parents, only fleeing the site of the crime when the flames threatened to consume her as well.

Shortly afterwards, the traumatized Leona was taken in by her aunt and uncle to give her some place to live. Her new home was incredibly broken down and poorly maintained. Not only that, but it was in the slums of her home city, which was almost purely run by gangs of Demons. For the next few years, Leona practiced her divination through tarot cards, and even learned the concept of dowsing in order to further enhance her divinations. When she wasn't doing that, she was going through her last 2 years of high school hell. She went from the half decent high school she was in to some inner city hellhole that only helped to breed the inherent racism that would go on to define a portion of her personality later in life.

Eventually, through the trials that would prove to almost break her, Leona graduated, and at the same time, managed to almost master her divination skills. All she wanted to do, just mere days after graduating, was attempt to test out her divination powers for the last time. She begun the divination process, laying out her cards in their specific order as she drew them. Once finished, she read them as they were. Another tragedy would unfold today, it seemed. She hadn't had one of these since... well, she didn't want to think about it. After getting this message from her cards, she drew a circle and separated it into twenty-six sections. For each section, she wrote in one letter until she had written every letter in the alphabet. Once this was finished, she begun the process of dowsing, hanging a diamond shaped gem attached to a chain over the center of the circle. The chain then begun to swing over various letters of the circle, giving Leona five seemingly random letters in no particular order. It read "EMDXNAOT" when written out in the order it was given. As per usual, Leona had to decipher the words. Fate wasn't being particularly compliant today.

However, as she unraveled the words, her heart started to sink. That's right. It was that time of the month again. Time to pay protection fees. It was a tax the local gangs enforced on the people here that basically meant they wouldn't harm you or your family. A cheap way of swindling people out of their money. Leona had seen what happened to people who didn't pay this tax before. They were left a bloody, broken mess. Leona simply shook her head and started cleaning up her tarot cards, putting them back into the form of a deck before shuffling them and pocketing them, throwing the piece of paper she used for dowsing away. Maybe this "tragedy" wouldn't be as bad as last time.

Before any more thoughts could run through Leona's head, she heard a gunshot from downstairs. Her heart sank as flashbacks from 2 years ago started to course through her mind. What if that was going to happen again? She couldn't lose anyone else she loved, she thought, and so she rushed out of her room and to the front door to see her aunt and uncle laying on the floor with bullet wounds in both of their guts. Rushing to their side with panic rising rapidly once more in her chest, Leona did her best to help her aunt and uncle. She tried to stop the bleeding, but for some reason it wouldn't end. As both of her family members passed out from lack of blood, Leona started breaking down. Tears started to stream from her eyes as she sobbed, slowly realizing that they were going to die and there was nothing she could do. That is, until she noted a light start to shine in her pocket.

Pulling her tarot cards out once more, Leona noticed that The Fool card was the one that was glowing, and it only continued to get brighter. Eventually, the light was too much to take, and she had to turn her head away, even bringing the card further away to try and protect her eyes. It was then that a jolt of what felt like electricity surged through her arm, the surprise and pain of it causing her to drop the card on her uncle. When she reached down to pick it up, what she noticed made her jaw drop. A light emanated from the bullet wound, engulfing it in a deep red glow. The wound was... closing up? Leona could only watch as the wound eventually sealed up, spitting out the bullet as well and leaving the man as if he had never been shot in the first place. Almost a minute went by of Leona sitting in shocked awe before she remembered her aunt was also wounded. Picking up The Fool card again, she placed it over her grandmother's wound, and that too created the same red glow as before. It was healing her as well, in the same way it had healed her uncle. Leona could only stare in awe and confusion at what had just happened, a million questions running through her head as her aunt and uncle slowly started to wake up.

Flash forward about 5 years, Leona is 23 years old now, bordering on 24. She has learned how to conjure and control tarot cards telekinetically, and has learned how she gains new powers, as well as how to use and master her old ones. One day during the middle of the night, Leona got a visit from a certain old "friend" who told her "You are the last loose end in my job, and I need you gone. Unfortunately my... superiors, aren't exactly the merciful kind. Rather than just outright killing you, they want to see you burn in person." When Leona sat upright to see who it was, she saw the same demon that killed her parents all those years ago.

And before she could do anything, the snapping of fingers was heard and Leona's whole world went dark. When she awoke, there was a deep seated feeling of sickness in her stomach and she was in an unfamiliar environment. From that point on, she was abandoned in the world of the demons. Food that she considered edible was hard to come by, and often times she had to steal from demons she came across, or from any form of civilization that she came by. It was here that she learned to use the Devil, the Tower, and the Star cards as powers. When she wasn't looking for food and shelter, Leona was hunted by demons that had stated they were hired by the "superiors" that her parent's killer had mentioned. Sometimes she ran, sometimes she fought, but in the end all she knew was that she was starting to gain a particular hatred for demons. When she tried to ask other demons for help, she was more often than not turned away, given an odd look or some form of retaliation to a simple question of "can you spare some food?". What Leona didn't know was that there was a small bounty put on her head, and that she was accused of murder. Unfortunately for her, she stayed away from civilizations too much to really figure this out.

In the end, Leona didn't leave for almost 4 years. By the time she got out, she was only a few weeks past 27 years old, and it was due to a singular kind demon who knew her plight and aided her in returning to the human world. When she got out, however, she was in Karakura, a city she had only seen pictures of and heard stories about. She had no personal belongings on her, just a dirty yellow dress, some high heels, stockings, and her sanity hanging by a thread.

3 more years passed and Leona's life started to get better. She found a lover, a career in fortune telling, and finally her life was stable. That is, until the demon that killed her parents came for the final time. What resulted was a battle between Leona and the demon, but in the end Leona lost. She was incapable of defeating him, and was about to be killed by her adversary... had her lover not stepped in the way of his sword. Him taking the final blow, along with Leona's rage sending a powerful wave of adrenaline through her body allowed her to surprise the demon and temporarily gain the upper hand. The battle was won with Leona throwing card after card at the demon until there was nothing but a bloody pulp left. Afterwards, Leona grieved her loss, but has since gotten over it.

Now Leona is a travelling fortune teller who goes from country to country, seeking new ways to gain power through her fate-based powers. She hates the demon race for taking her parents, her lover, and trapping her in a painful hell for literal years. While she would love to get revenge, she isn't totally hellbent on "giving the demon race what it deserves", as she calls it. Some days she can be seen just relaxing, others researching the occult topic of divination that her powers are based off of, and some days she tries to make money off of her readings.

How long do these effects take place over a post?

How strong are these living beings tier wise? (I'd suggest mapping it out for each possible tier she might receive now or in the future) How long are they able to last on the field?

5 - The Hierophant: A Hierophant is a priest who investigates religious principles or mysteries, and as a tarot card, represents belief, confession, and a search for knowledge. The power Leona gains from this is the ability to force a confession out of a person when she asks them a question. When someone gets hit with The Hierophant card, it sinks into their body and temporarily becomes a part of their soul. Once that happens, that person cannot lie even if they try to. If Leona asks them a question, they also cannot refrain from answering. This effect lasts for only a few minutes and can be broken with a surge of willpower, but can be reapplied should Leona hit the person with another Hierophant card.

I feel this is a bit too absolute for my taste. I know it says it can be broken with a surge of willpower, but I feel the whole "They cannot refrain from answering" is too much. I feel it should be a form of suggestive thought and gives the player more of a chance to play back and forth with you.

This lasts for quite some time, but continuously drains her reiatsu. Prolonged use is typically avoided.

How long does it last? And does this just apply to her skill sheet?

8 - Adjustment: Adjustment is the card representing balance, justice, and fairness. When Leona hits someone with an Adjustment card, it will vanish in a small flash of light. From then on, whatever damage Leona takes is mimicked on the other person and vice versa, balancing out their injuries. Any healing done to the other person will also be reflected on Leona, and vice versa. It lasts until that person gets over a mile away from her, or until about 10 minutes have passed.

Can you convert the 10 minutes into post time? I.E. how many posts does it last

9 - The Hermit: The Hermit represents reclusiveness in order to self-realize and self-reflect on life. For Leona, this card gives her the ability to put herself in a sort of ethereal stasis state that renders her completely unable to move or act, but is intangible and unable to be touched. This only lasts for several seconds before it wears off completely.

Like the last one, convert how long the effect lasts into post. It can even last half ap ost or so.

This lasts until the person is over a mile away from Leona, or about an hour passes.

Convert the effect time into post time. @ minutes into posts.

Not as big of a deal now, but you cannot push to a GM with this.
