• Appearance Description:

The most striking thing about Tatsuki’s appearance and the first thing most people notice about him is his bright white hair. Not only is it hardly maintained, often leading to its crazy and unkempt style, it’s a color not often seen naturally and coupled with his vibrantly light blue eyes it gives him an almost intimidating yet roguish appearance. Tatsuki might have been a tad more intimidating due to his taller than average height but he’s also lanky and only slightly built, so instead of an imposing height he comes off as having a less than formidable strength and is frequently underestimated.

To overcompensate for his rather average strength appearance, Tatsuki might have been better suited wearing rough-neck clothing to make a statement about his bad boy personality, if it wasn’t of course for the fact that he was forced to wear the common uniform of the Shinigami. He did, as one would expect of him, go with a sleeveless style and a more rough around the edges wear and tear but it was heard to look threatening in that kind of an outfit. As for his sword, Tatsuki preferred to keep it strapped to his back and utilized an overhand draw style as opposed to the waist. Other than that however, Tatsuki looked like your average Shinigami with perhaps a sourer mood than most.

• Personality:

In his living life, Tatsuki was the typical bad boy type. He didn't follow many of the rules, he hated being around other people, and in the end just didn’t trust a soul. This was mostly because he had to deal with being the outsider in a foreign country. It didn’t matter that he was born there, didn’t matter that he spoke both his native and his home tongue. Nobody truly accepted Tatsuki and Tatsuki naturally didn't accept anyone either. During his stint in the Navy instead of learning discipline and a respect for your superiors he did quite the opposite. He hated taking orders about as much as he hated following drills and working hard. Tatsuki was the ire of his fellow naval men and officers and suffered a lot of negativity and violence up until his tragic end.


One would assume that in death he learned to reflect on his past life and change his ways. No such luck. Tatsuki much remained himself as if it were ingrained in his every fiber to neither respect nor follow his fellow peers. It granted him few friends and many enemies. Through sheer violence and his uncanny ability to escape any situation to hairy to handle, Tatsuki was able to garner a certain type of respect, or infamy, that helped him to soften up, if just a bit, towards his allies and understand that it would be impossible to go it, completely, alone. Tatsuki might have a tough exterior and an even tougher interior, but if someone respect him and he respects them, eventually Tatsuki and that person could come to a sort of agreement, friendship if it had to be labeled.

• History:

Tatsuki was not born in Japan even though his Japanese heritage is quite apparent (due to his name and facial features), it was in fact in England that he came into the world. His mother was considered quite the scandalous Georgian Era woman for consorting with an Eastern foreigner. It didn't matter that he was independently wealthy from his lucrative trading, he was foreign and she was a socialite. It didn't take much after her getting pregnant for her entire family to up and disown her. Luckily the man was rich and could afford to pay for a home in which to love his woman and raise their child.

In this dual life Tatsuki was first taught English and enrolled in school much like other boys his age, and at home he learned the language of his father, his father of course who insisted on a Japanese name. Unfortunately it would be his father’s stubbornness that would lead to him being ostracized by the other boys. Tatsuki had enough of his mother in him to pass as English but the name coupled with his more Asian features removed any chance of him passing as a native. This lead to Tatsuki’s rebellious nature and violent attitude. Eventually it came around to bite him in the ass because as soon as he was of age it was off to the Navy or off to jail.

It was during his Navy upbringing that Tatsuki gained his love for open seas and his penchant for sailing. It was the one thing that seemed to mellow him and make him just a bit more bearable to be around. However it was also around this time that Tatsuki noticed his fear of thunderstorms, in fact it may have been due to the fact that he was on a boat that storms amplified his terror. Regardless he wouldn't have much time to think on it as The Napoleonic Wars begin shortly after his enlistment and off to war he went. Unfortunately his fears were soon realized as crazy thunderstorms racked the very seas he sailed and it was on his ship that he met a watery grave after it was blown to bits by a powerful blast.

His life and transition to the soul society were mostly a blur. Tatsuki tends not to dwell too much in the past and it could very well indicate that it wasn't the best of times for him. Instead he focused more on learning about the Shinigami and the various ways to join them. He of course despised the idea of another military organization and having to be commanded but at the same time he was among others of various races and descents. He wasn't alone anymore, just overwhelmed. The one drawing factor was this idea of power and how to use it to gain an advantage. He would risk having to be lead in order to learn how to get strong enough to go it alone, or even lead himself.

It took years, plenty of years before he had the strength and the promise to join the Academy. It was here he learned so much more about himself. He was skilled, he could fight, but the other things they asked of him? Kido for instance? It was so hard to wrap his mind around, in fact the only Kido he ever showed promise with was Hadō #4: Byakurai. Ironic seeing as how it was lightning that killed him and lightning that he feared. However he learned to channel that fear into strength and turn his Byakurai into a formidable ability, at the expense of never learning any other Kido based abilities. Yet even after his struggles before and during the Academy, Tatsuki was able to graduate and gain his Zanpakutô. It is here that his story begins…

• Zanpakutô Spirit Appearance:


Denkouissen (as pictured above) has almost the exact same level of arrogance, if not more, of Tatsuki. It is part of the reason these two tend to get along and at the same time butt heads. Normally you would Denkouissen a little more dramatic than Tatsuki. In his normal state he is surrounded by swirling thunder clouds, flashing lightning, and the ominous roar of thunder. His eyes glow a vibrant blue and his voice booms. This is his flair for the dramatics side showing. However Tatsuki gets to see Denkouissen in a whole different kind of light.

When speaking with his blade and visiting his world, the man Tatsuki sees is exactly as he is shown. A white haired, tattooed, shirtless rebel with devilish charm. There is no thunder, lightning, and over the top dramatics. In fact when those two are standing next to each other one might even consider them brothers. In fact that’s exactly how those two act around each other. Denkouissen takes on the role of the older brother, keen on protecting Tatsuki but not above petty arguments and the occasional prank. The joke that Denkouissen loves to play on Tatsuki is exploiting his fear of lightning by occasionally letting a bolt flash as a complete surprise and then laughing as Tatsuki freaks out.

• Inner World:
Denkouissen’s inner world is quite perilous if not invited in. It is a plane of constant storms and Denkouissen himself resides in the eye of a gigantic hurricane. The winds inside the hurricane itself also house a powerful lightning storm implying that to even get close to Denkouissen one would have to dodge hundreds of sporadic lightning strikes and risk being blown away by powerful gusts. Inside the eye, it is a different story. A large lake with waters too calm house a single fisherman’s boat. It is here that Denkouissen makes his home and entertains guest if any.

• Sealed Zanpakutô Apperance :
Denkouissen when sealed is a simple Wakizashi style blade. The sheath itself is black but starting from the mouth of the sheath to the tip a wave is formed, reaching its apex at the tip and cresting back over. The blade itself while still retaining the color of steel, has a large forking lightning blade running from hilt to tip and it is mirrored on the other side.

• Sealed Zanpakutô Abilities:
Lightning Rod: This ability refers to Tatsuki’s natural resistance to electrical attacks and natural phenomenon. While not being completely immune, Tatsuki only takes about 1/3rd damage from any attack or electrical source equal to his own level, and stores it in his body. Attacks of a greater strength would still deal moderate amounts of damage. The energy is then used in the following skill, however the big risk to know is that while 1/3rd damage may seem like a lot; 1/3rd of an attack that could kill Tatsuki would still seriously wound him, and it’s even possible for Tatsuki to be unable to contain all of the energy of an attack and subsequently explode.

Transistor: Utilizing the energy he stores via Lightning Rod, Tatsuki can channel that power into his own skills adding a specific benefit based on skill. This ability while being able to function outside of Shikai, works best while Shikai is active. The only ability Tatsuki can empower outside of release is his Hadō #4: Byakurai. The extra electrical energy supercharges the Hadō and results in a stronger more explosive strike with the sacrifice of reduced accuracy.

• Release: “Strike Twice, Denkouissen!”

• Shikai Description:
Throwing his sword towards the skies, Tatsuki calls out the release phrase and with a flash of lightning and a crack of thunder a trident falls back down into Tatsuki’s hand. The trident is the color of lightning and each of the three prongs are jaggedly shaped into that of lightning bolts. The weapon itself seems to be coursing with energy and bolts of electricity are constantly jumping between prongs (much like a tazer).

• Shikai Abilities:
Thunderbolt: The defining feature of Denkouissen. By pointing the trident in a direction, Tatsuki can shot forth a bolt of lightning to strike a target. The range is between mid and far and the father away the target is the harder it is for the bolt to land accurately. Also Tatsuki can hold the trident skyward and call forth a lightning bolt straight down on top of him. This bolt would strike anything within arm’s reach of Tatsuki and will always strike him. The purpose is to hit up close fighters, but more importantly charge his Transistor ability. If Bankai is active, Thunderbolt charges all 6 pieces of the armor if cast on himself.

Storm Brewing: By waving the trident in a circular fashion above Tatsuki’s head, he can call forth a black storm cloud that has approximately the same radius as the apex of his Thunderbolt skill. From the cloud rain pours coating everything with water, thus increasing any sort of electrical damage they might receive. It takes one full round of posts for the storm to full form (Start post, Other’s posting, my next post storm starts). In addition, lightning will strike randomly from the cloud. It follows the laws of nature so the lightning is more prone to strike taller objects, metallic objects, and Tatsuki’s trident when raised (as it is a lightning rod). The storm lasts for 10 posts total regardless of who is the 10th poster.

ZAP!: This refers to the trident’s latent ability. The prongs are constantly conducting electricity, so whenever Tatsuki strikes an opponent, volts of electricity course through their bodies, much like being tazed. It is also important to note that if an enemies’ blade comes in contact with the prongs, either to block or disarm, the electricity will still travel through their sword and depending on how the hilt is made, continue into the opponent’s body.

Strike True/Come Forth!: This ability is Tatsuki’s throw and retrieve skill. Instead of summing a thunderbolt, Tatsuki can throw his trident with all the force and speed of his Thunderbolt skill. It has the same effect but now adds piercing damage if the trident connects with his foe and the ZAP! Effect as well. As for Come Forth! This ability allows Tatsuki to summon Denkouissen no matter where the trident is. It returns much in the fashion that he summoned it in the first place, a lightning bolt from directly above. However this time and every time Tatsuki summons his trident like this he is also struck by the lightning. Thus this skill is used sparingly if at all.

Strike Twice: This is not a skill but a negative effect. Despite the optimistic release phrase, Denkouissen cannot actually strike the same place twice in a row. If Tatsuki uses Thunderbolt on a target and then does so again and the target doesn’t move, the bolt will veer slightly off target. Now it is entirely possible to strike the same target twice in two different areas if the target is large enough. The only exception to this rule is that Denkouissen can always strike itself in the same place for it is a lightning rod designed to absorb nearby lightning strikes.

• Bankai Description:
Name: Denkouissen Raijin

Description: Upon activating his Bankai, Tatsuki Arashi is enveloped in a brilliant flash of lightning followed by the tremendous roar of thunder, so strong that it could shatter windows. As the light dissipates, Tatsuki is now covered in a metallic armor and his hair has turned a light blue as well as growing a few extra inches. Ever so often electricity can be seen arcing off and around it, showing that the armor is as live and dangerous as the prongs on his trident. As Tatsuki becomes more and more charged his eyes begin to lose their normal look and appear as balls of living lightning, oozing electrical power.

• Bankai Abilities:
Transistor Substations: Not only does Tatsuki's own body absorb electrical energy, his armor does as well. As shown in the picture above this would mean that in addition to his body, he has 6 additional "substations" that absorb energy. Each one has varying points of "full". Each Gauntlet, Boot, and the Crown store 1/5 of what his body normally can, and the torso can store 1/3 of what his body can. So if Tatsuki's body was at 100% full and so were each of his armor pieces he'd have 233% of stored bonus energy. Granted if Tatsuki was ever at 233% even the shock from static electricity could cause him to self-destruct.

Off the Grid: This is a supplementary ability to Substations. While Tatsuki can draw the energy from his armor pieces, if the armor is struck by lightning it immediately absorbs it. Therefore if there is space in a piece of armor when it is struck, his body will not absorb it. In essence if a bolt of lighting strikes only his chest armor, that piece begins to fill up. That still however leaves 5 other pieces at 0% AND Tatsuki's own body at 0%. Tatsuki's body only absorbs electricity if it is directly hit or if it needs to absorb the excess from fully charged pieces of armor.

Live Wire: As long as Tatsuki's armor pieces have at the bare minimum a 5% charge they act as a "live wire". Meaning that if you were to get punched or kicked, or even touch a piece of his armor you'd receive a shock of electricity. The damage ranges based on how full the piece is.

A Flash of Lightning: By expending the energy stored in his boots, Tatsuki can move incredibly fast. This can be used to increase the damage of his kicks by rocketing them with a boost of electrical energy or to move around the field at break-neck speeds. However a fully charged boot would only last him 1 post. Therefore if he were to have both boots charged he could move quickly for two posts, (the post where he activated the skill and the post where his foe responds).

I Am the Lightning: This skill first requires a storm to be present, be it natural or caused by his other ability. By leaping into a storm cloud, Tatsuki begins to attract a multitude of lightning strikes, then by expending his energy through his boots he and pointing his trident out in front of him he can skyrocket out of the clouds as one huge bolt of electricity and attempt to literally pierce through his enemy and explode with energy on impact. As he expels energy through his boots they are being recharged by the storm cloud, allowing him to push more and more energy out of his feet while still maintaining a powerful charge. There are two major risks to this ability. First it brings him very close to the max 233%, if Tatsuki doesn't exit that cloud quick enough he could self-destruct. Second, being the focal point of the explosion it damages him as well. While his armor tries to reabsorb some of the exploding energy there is a delay between release and reentry meaning that not all of the energy can get reabsorbed. To use this ability once is risky, twice in the same thread may possible kill him.

Supercharged: This ability is more so a statement that with additional storage space a lot of his previous abilities now have the option of being far more dangerous and stronger by expending more energy than was possible pre-bankai.
