In to the fray

Well, I just stumbled across this today and it looks nice so far. I've always been a fan of forums that are completely dedicated to one world timeline, as opposed to a forum that is more unstructured. In addition I'm a huge fan of really putting some distance between cannon and original creations. I really enjoy what I've read on the setting and history established here at Platinum Hearts.
I've done the writing thing off and on for almost fifteen years now so I might be a bit of an older guy compared to some of your members, still I play well with others. As a highly opinionated person, my older age gives me an appreciation for what things were like when I was a hot headed youngster. Looking back, its also funny how much I was looking forward to 'that new manga Bleach' when I was reading Zombie Powder.
Anyway I've been to an assorted number of places on the internet developing my style of writing. Chat, forum roleplay, and writing exercises to name a few. You may see the influence of science fiction and fantasy authors in my prose as I'm an avid reader, but I doubt it, as I'm hardly published writer caliber. I really enjoy the play by post format as it lets me easily incorporate writing into my life.
Looking forward to jumping right into things and it would be great if anyone had some tips for a newcomer to the site, other then reading the rules and established back story. Perhaps share something that you learned in your first few weeks here that really left an impression on you?
Thanks in advance for all replies, canned admin responses and helpful regulars are welcome.

Welcome! We talked on the Xat earlier, and man am I impressed that you've been able to keep semi-steady with RPing for as long as you have. I've been doing this since 2006 so just recently 7 years in December. I consider myself to know a good bit about all these things and about how good roleplaying should be. Which is to just write something that you find enjoyable to yourself in hopes that it will find joy in others. However, there's not really a such thing as good or bad role playing as no matter what you do you can still get your point across some how or another.
I've given you some advice already, but as for week one starting... To be honest, PH has no limits. Hell, we have Demons and Vampires here, though the vampire race may seem a little bit "meh" it just goes to show that they are not so strict on what the writer is trying to imagine for their characters. There may be set guidelines and what not, but as long as you don't completely apeshit with abilities on your application or put characters in your history that shouldn't be they'll typically help you settle the wording within the application so that it will fit within their rules and still fit to your liking. When you are writing out your abilities you shouldn't just write the strengths of the ability as there are always weaknesses to everything.
As for appearances of certain states, there truly is no limit. As long as it's appropriate there is no problem. The environment here and the staff are pretty awesome, but don't be surprised when the banter starts flying around the xat, because it does happen. Doesn't mean we're douches, because we're not being serious what-so-ever... most of the time. XD
Enjoy your stay, PM me or PC me in the xat if you have any questions for me or just want to start a thread up when your application gets accepted! Good luck!

Already talked to you a bit via PMs. But again, being I'm fresh to the site as well I think we could both benefit from some threads together ^.^ That aside, welcome and I hope you enjoy yourself as much as I have so far.
